"Been waiting to drop this: summer playlist, the encore. What's everybody listening to?"

ADDED: Are these songs more enjoyable if we smoke marijuana? Malia looked like she was smoking marijuana when she went to a Lollapalooza concert.

Meanwhile:
The Obama administration has denied a bid by two Democratic governors to reconsider how it treats marijuana under federal drug control laws, keeping the drug for now, at least, in the most restrictive category for U.S. law enforcement purposes.

Drug Enforcement Administration chief Chuck Rosenberg says the decision is rooted in science. Rosenberg gave "enormous weight" to conclusions by the Food and Drug Administration that marijuana has "no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States," and by some measures, it remains highly vulnerable to abuse as the most commonly used illicit drug across the nation.

no wonder trump is doing so well. I continue to believe that Clinton, bush II and Obama have done much damage to the office of the president. we deserve trump. we need trump.

David Begley म्हणाले...

Lots of music listening and golf playing time for the Leader of the Free World.

And, of course, there is "To Pimp a Butterfly" with Obama saying, "What it do."

Could this guy just go away?

I wonder how much the consulting firm charged to craft two playlists.

If the Feds applied the same logic to tobacco, they would outlaw it.

Instead they prolong the quasi legal problem state we find ourselves in, with additional states going. For legalization votes in November.

The Guy in the White Van With No Windows In The Back was listening to the radio...

I shake my head. I shake my head every time the radio plays Bob Dylan. I want a singer to sing what is real, not just what he oh-so-cleverly rhymes. I hate 'clever'. Clever is for Dicks. For me the real 'Bob Dylan' is Neil Diamond...

Give me a Neil Diamond song and I will give you a bit of America that is True. "Everybody Must Get Stoned"? I call Bullshit. I call Bullshit on hipsters and tricksters and rappers and sideways poets and those that pretend so hard to be. Who needs that when you can have this:

"She got the way to move me, Cherry
She got the way to groove me, Cherry baby
She got the way to move me
She got the way to groove me..."

I've KNOWN that Girl. I've driven with that Girl, and I always hope to find her again, to find her in a woman I've never met yet. I've KNOWN 'Hot August Nights", when it is just past midnight and you are beneath the fluorescent lights pumping four dollars of gas into the tank, still sweating from the evening sun, scratches on your skin, and all the moths are all circling above...

After my Mom left I remember my Dad in his V-neck T-shirt putting on Neil Diamond on vinyl and drinking Scotch while I drank Grape soda-- I knew the scratches and pops to each song, and I miss them now when I hear their absence on new copies…

"Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow…"

…I remember my Dad softly bouncing his foot to that, glass in hand, back before the diabetes and the amputation….

But Dylan.

The problem with Bob Dylan is you can always sense him sneering at you; if he tried that act in a bar in Real America he'd get his scarecrow ass handed to him. Neil Diamond, he loved people, he didn't pass judgment or act above it all. You could share a drink with Neil, I know it: he'd tell me his stories, and I'd tell him mine...

All this and Neil, he wrote the song that best sums up my World:

"I've been misunderstood
For all of my life
But what they're sayin',
Girl, just cuts like a knife
"The boy's no good"

Well, I finally found
What I've been looking for
But if they get the chance,
They'll end it for sure
Sure they would
Baby, I've done all I could

It's up to you
Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Please, come take my hand
Girl, you'll be a woman soon
Soon you'll need a man
Soon you'll need a man…."

Neil and me, we've gone on some long rides together, we have secrets that even HE doesn't know. But, on some level, I believe he would understand: I don't think I could bear to have Neil turn his back on me...

"But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried
But it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I never cared
For the sound of being alone

"I am"... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair
"I am"... I cried
"I am"... said I
And I am lost and I can't
Even say why
"I am"... I said
"I am"... I cried
"I am"... I said…"

I am Laslo.

I'll give him points for Courtney Barnett and Fiona Apple.

And I find it plausible that he actually listens to any of that, though necessarily (and true of any President that did this) I suspect some try-hard posturing here and there.

I'd bet about any amount of money that he has never listened to any of the songs on these "playlists".

David Begley म्हणाले...

Fact. Hillary paid a good amount of money to some consulting firm for her political rally music. It was in the thousands and I can't recall the number, say $20k. Probably included the IP rights too.

So "it remains highly vulnerable to abuse as the most commonly used illicit drug across the nation." Then if it wasn't illicit it would not be the most commonly used illicit drug. Take it off the list. I live in CO, and no I have not Ever used it.

Malia seems ready for some old fashioned teen age rebellion.
Too bad she is delaying college for a year. She has a year to smoke weed and twerk 24/7.
For the first time in my life, I actually feel sorry for Michelle.

I saw this in the tabloids and noted the progressive press is avoiding it. Quite the difference to Jenna Bush's drinking which they gleefully covered.

The fanboys and girls who slobber all over themselves at his colloquialism-laced street-talking informality (Seriously, Mr. President? "Waiting to drop this"?) have no business objecting to Trump's similarly colloquial Queens-talking informality. Instead, they clutch their pearls at every one of his utterances. Totes ridiculous.

You keep repeating that crap line without rebuttal when the U.S. federal government is providing the stuff to patients out of a grow facility it maintains in Mississippi. It has been doing this for almost the entire time it kept it in Schedule I. Why do you keep letting the federal government off the hook like this?

It's clearly either lying in one of these cases or at least being inconsistent in a way that compels you to stop taking them at their word. I know your bias toward alcohol and conformity compels you to give space to any anti-weed screeds that anyone will offer, but your willing blindspots become harder and harder to acquit by the year.

Malia has a difficult road to walk. She's among the most privileged teenagers on the planet by almost any metric. But she wants to be seen as authentic and part of a community of peers. Of course she is going to wander this way and that trying to find who she is apart from her parents. I pray she finds confidence and strength and humility in her journey. She's going to encounter a lot people who want to use her as an object for the sake of access. I pray she has true friends who can help her be a force of good in this world, making use of her vast privilege to better the lives of others.

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

"...the most commonly used illicit drug across the nation."

Well, what is the most commonly used--and most damaging--licit drug?

If marijuana were legalized at the federal level, it would no longer be the most commonly used "illicit" drug, and might eventually replace (or significantly reduce the use of) the more addictive and more damaging drug alcohol as the legal drug of choice.

Also, how can marijuana have "currently accepted medical use in treatment" if it is illegal? If it were legalized, perhaps more damaging and addictive drugs such as oxycontin and its varieties, (percocet, vicodin, etc.), would fall out of use and marijuana would gain "accepted medical use in treatment."

Lying putzes.

I say all of the above as a non-user of any drugs, including alcohol.

damikesc म्हणाले...

I'd say leave Malia alone...but the Bush twins got heat for drinking at college, so fuck the niceties.

Bad Lieutenant म्हणाले...

Robert, you rejected everything else your family taught you, why would you maintain a teetotaler stance towards drugs, alcohol, etcetera? I suppose you don't have non missionary position sex either? Or masturbate? Do you swear?
