Writes Scott Adams....
And notice how Donald Jr. and Eric both have the speaking cadence of
John and Jack Kennedy.
John
and Jack, eh? I love Scott Adams... but he's not infallible. Here at Meadhouse, we were saying Donald Jr. is
Bobby Kennedy. That's who he sounded like, and it's distinctive in a way that counting John twice doesn't equal.
Notice also how Melania reminds you of Jackie
Kennedy – quiet, smart, and classy. These are coincidences, but your
irrational brain doesn’t care. It sees a new batch of Kennedys and wants
to see more of them. That’s powerful election magic for a nation that
only pretends to care about policies.
A week ago you compared ugly
Donald Trump with ugly Hillary Clinton and declared them a visual tie.
That matters because our visual “brain” generally wins against whatever
part of the brain is pretending to be logical that day.
Ha ha. Perfect. All is forgiven.
Whatever
part of the brain is pretending to be logical that day. Love it.
[O]nce we got a
look at the entire Trump family, acting as a group, our visual brains
started seeing them as a package deal. And when you compare the entire
Trump family’s visual appeal to the entire Clinton family’s visual
imagery it’s a massacre.
Would you prefer seeing Bill and Hillary
Clinton decompose in front of your eyes for eight years, or watch the
Trump family develop their dynasty?

We are going to hear what monsters the Trump family are daily.
Trump's children are so much better than the kennedys who have with the passage of time proven to be just mediocre.
Personally I hope Trump wins the election for the new reality TV show....The President.....a weekly look into the wacky antics in the White House...
Have the two guys from Game of Thrones as the showrunners.
I certainly don't forgive Trump because he has decent children. The sons don't impress me as much as the daughters do. Remember, the children also had a mother who raised and influenced them. They are loyal to their father, which is understandable. We certainly cannot extrapolate that because Trump has good children that therefore he himself is a good choice for the Presidency.
He does have a very impressive family.
It makes me wonder how such a racist, bigot, homophobic, second coming of Hitler could have raised such great kids.
Well, on the mother front, as in Ivana deserving credit, Donald probably should get some credit for choosing her, out of the, probably, many thousands of young women who would have been after him at the time.
Not every pretty girl will make a good mother.
This is a factor to consider in judging his ability to make political appointments.
It's a simple choice. The Old Corrupt Clinton Crime Family (pimped and pushed and primed by a corrupt media industrial complex) -or- The Trump family - smart, youthful, full of promise. Trump is an unknown, but we know what we get with the Clintons and their corrupt press.
A Duck Dynasty. We the People and Posterity. Even the Clintons get it, albeit through a Pro-Choice lens.
Putting the photogenic Trump family in the White House rather than the white trash from AR is certainly a bonus for us #NeverNeverTrumpers. But Adams mistakes belaboring the obvious for philosophical profundity.
I would think there's a chance that the subliminal "dynasty" image could produce a backlash, but since Adams is factoring in that the only plausible alternative candidate is also from a dynasty, maybe not.
But I certainly heard an awful lot of people counting out Jeb Bush because everyone had had it up to their eyeballs with political dynasties. Why do we want to start another one, again?

That's sexist.
From the Fauxhaus Blog:
"...we explore a long-lasting media trend: proclaiming the "new Bob Dylan."
"Thirty years ago, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Donovan were regarded as legitimate heirs to Dylan's throne..."
Ahhh... The New Bob Dylan. People, always on the search for what they love and remember fondly, to be found in someone new. The political version of this is -- of course -- "the New Jack Kennedy."
Was Bobby Kennedy the "Neil Young?"
Was Teddy Kennedy... well, what the Hell WAS "Teddy Kennedy?" Note that no one rhapsodizes about a "New Teddy Kennedy" -- he is water under the bridge. Yes, I know.
"Was Obama the.... umm... maybe there was a black musician that was called a "New Dylan" but nothing immediately comes to mind; probably a rap artist, would be my guess. You could make the argument that Obama was the "New Marvin Gaye", but that is a topic to itself.
The Kennedy comparisons tire me; I am more interested in who, exactly, is Trump in the World of Dylan?
Perhaps he sees himself as the Bruce Springsteen...

While I enjoyed the old show "Dynasty" as a teen in the 1980s, it was mainly for the decolletage. Ahh, the priorities of the teen years were simple and direct.
John Forsythe made a great male lead in that Dynasty series, swanning about like he owned the entire world, as well as a great Charlie for the Angels in a mere voice acting role.
I would rather listen to Trump happily bluster about like he owned the entire world for his entire term in office than listen to one single scolding, irritating speech from Hillary, the angry, never satisfied Mother-In-Law cheated-on shrew to the world.
Both Trump & his daughter made clear pro-LGBTQ references in their speeches, didn't they? Esp. w/r/t being pro-family? I'd have expected that to get more notice, but I haven't seen it mentioned much in the commentary this morning.
You know who else the public loves? The Kardashians. And Honey Boo Boo. And the Windsors.
Also Bill Clinton.
I don't want any of them as President either.

I was saying to my wife not too long ago, look at the Kardashians. Look at Paris Hilton. Look at all these kids of the rich and famous and how they all end up so terrible.
And now look at trumps kids. Doesn't that speak well of Trump? How do his kids, not just one of them, but all of them, how do they turn out so well growing up with so much fame and money?

Your recent "old guy giving 80 minute speech" post made me think of stories of Castro or some other commie pol haranguing crowds for hours. Now, it's the Kennedy comparison thing. Gack. Distasteful images, both. (Except for the chic First Lady thing. A stylish First Lady is nice, in and of itself, even if of no import in the great scheme of things.)
I imagine that for some people these associations might be distasteful enough to swing a vote. In normal times. So no joy for Hillary there, because...

The problem with the Kennedy family anology is Donald isn't one of the sons, he's old Joe who manipulated Wall Street to make a fortune.. I'm not sure in the long run that will matter. FDR hired Joe to clean up Wall Street by supposedly declaring "set a thief to catch a thief". Perhaps electing a thief is what we need.

Very interesting Adams analysis. The Donald's underlying communications skill and hard worker ethic are like watching a JFK rerun.
His two sons seem like Bobby Kennedy. And Melania's persona and role are a Jackie Bouvier look-a-like.
And Trump's deadly enemy is a Politician from Texas, whose Dad hung out with Lee Harvey Oswald.
Scott Adams writes and illustrates an often-funny and poignant comic strip (and has had some other offerings that are likewise entertaining), but I don't think much of his predictive ability or powers of persuasion.
I also think that Trump's political operation are absolute amateurs - it may be enough to win, but I don't know right now (I'll be able to tell by September 22). It's obvious that they were enraged by the Cruz non-endorsement, despite having the speech 48 hours before he gave it.
If I had to put my life savings on it, I'd say that Trump will lose the electoral college badly, partially due to Trump's completely amateur political team.
I was impressed. My partner was in particular impressed with Don Jr. Probably the best looking family member since JEB's son George P. According to her, he is major hot. And yes, so is Ivanka. Besides all of them being perfectly groomed and articulate. This is what our aristocracy is supposed to look (and sound) like (though Eric looks more like his father than women may like). Not like Chelsea, despite her nose job, etc, and her just as ugly husband. Bets on whether Crooked Hillary is going to let her daughter anywhere near any of the Trump kids over the next 4 months? John, Jr was equally hot, but his sister Caroline got too much of the Kennedy look to ever really be that attractive. Of course, we didn't care back then, because it was Camelot (ok, us Republicans cared - awhile back I found an old "First Family" record that spoofed the Kennedys, and was put away when JFK was assasignated).
Would you prefer seeing Bill and Hillary Clinton decompose in front of your eyes for eight years, or watch the Trump family develop their dynasty?

I'm sure someone's used "Jumpin' Jack Flash" but I'm happy to stay ignorant of that for now...nothing'll be worse than the Windows "Start Me Up" campaign, I hope.
And in terms of style, one word describes Hillary (and her putative daughter),
FRUMPY!
His children with Ivana ain't kids. Don Jr is not much younger than TR when he ran for VP or his dad when he was opening his second Atlantic City casino. Ivanka is the same age RFK was when he was running JFK's presidential campaign.
"Dreams, the Republican Party has never been pro working women. They may be pro family but they tend to favor women staying home and being homemakers over women going out into the workforce. Let's be real here."
I think most blue-collar women would love the option of being a stay at home mom with their young children and I'm pretty sure their pre-school children would love it too. A recent study showed that stay at home mothers were the happiest with their job.
You know who else the public loves? The Kardashians. And Honey Boo Boo. And the Windsors.
I've heard of the first two, but have no idea who the Windsors are. A royal British family?
It isn't so much that the public loves. It is more like the fascination of a slow train wreck in motion or a circus side show with the amazing freaks on display. Fascination in an...ooooo..... ick..... lol .....in the "you can't look away" type of thing.
"His children with Ivana ain't kids. Don Jr is not much younger than TR when he ran for VP or his dad when he was opening his second Atlantic City casino. Ivanka is the same age RFK was when he was running JFK's presidential campaign."
They are his adult kids or if you prefer his adult children, regardless of their age they will always be his children.
They will also always be their mother's children.
Even one of our "unknowns" at 0949 got a little wobbly on this one. The snark is gone and a little self-doubt is creeping in around the edges. It won't last, but very interesting.
"Would you prefer seeing Bill and Hillary Clinton decompose in front of your eyes for eight years, or watch the Trump family develop their dynasty?"
I'll take the latter but I don't see why that should keep me from enjoying watching Bill and Hillary Clinton decompose for the next eight years.
OK, I watched the speeches by Ivanka, Eric and Don Jr. I am impressed. They seem very nice and appealing. Trump would be wise to make liberal use of them until November.
"They will also always be their mother's children."
That obviously goes without saying, at least by me.
So, the Trumps are misogynistic drug abusers?
They may be pro family but they tend to favor women staying home and being homemakers over women going out into the workforce.
Trump pays his female employees better than Hillary pays her (she has a rather sizable pay gap). She also wants a high minimum wage while being with a party neck deep in unpaid interns.
And notice how Donald Jr. and Eric both have the speaking cadence of John and Jack Kennedy.
John and Jack, eh? I love Scott Adams... but he's not infallible.
Scott Adams has now changed it: "And notice how Donald Jr. and Eric both have the speaking cadence of Jack and Bobby Kennedy."
FDR hired Joe to clean up Wall Street by supposedly declaring "set a thief to catch a thief". Perhaps electing a thief is what we need.
Trump hinted at that last night when he said. "Nobody knows the system better than me. Which is why I alone can fix it."
Trump would be wise to make liberal use of them until November.
I saw somewhere today where Trump does give his adult children very high praise for their skills and presence...even to the point of acknowledging how much of the convention success is due to them. He also make a sort of halfway joking remark about how he hoped that they didn't go into politics because "someone needs to stay and take care of the business". I thought that was pretty funny and right on.
I would imagine that they will be 'on the stump' quite a lot during this last stretch of the campaign. They are articulate, accomplished, obviously very smart, lively, positive outlook, and greatly attractive. Compared to plodding, humourless and not very intelligent Chelsea.
Trumps family is an enhancement. Hillary's family only reminds us what terrible people they are. Decomposing before our eyes.....very good imagery which once seen mentally, will not go away.
Built Trump Tough.
Hillary Clinton will not be able to crack Bill's 1992 vote percentage. She doesn't have the political skill to overcome he deficiencies. The question is whether the media can keep Trump under 42%. My feeling is no.
This election is going to be epic. I wonder how far down ballot it will flow.
He's onto something. I never paid any attention to the Kennedys and haven't noticed the Trump family either. So the parallel holds.
My father did remark, watcying the TV overage of some Kennedy coffin to somewhere by train, which trip had just resulted in a spectator death, "The Kennedys are killing off everybody."
I wasn't into it, though.

Damn you're an idiot!
Yes, the Windsors are the British Royal family. Named after their home castle to get rid of their German last name. Except really for Chuck, kids, and grandkids, who are, I believe, Wales(es), from his princedom. Not sure what happens when he ascends the throne. Presumably, he will switch to Windsor, but son Harry would no longer seem to qualify as a Wales, so might have to change too. The travails of royalty. But probably all still considered Windsors.
"The travails of royalty. But probably all still considered Windsors."

:-D That's right!
Except really for Chuck, kids, and grandkids, who are, I believe, Wales(es)
Nobody inherits the Principality of Wales except through the reigning monarch, so none of the PoW's issues are Wales(es). I'm not sure what you meant by that since Wales is a not a dynasty. When ER-II passes the dynasty name may change to Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg by her marriage to a prince of that house.
Quaestor, why not Saxe-Coburg, her own lineage?
Let's not leave Barron out this Kennedy equation. Scott Adams really should have compared the Trump sons to John, Bobby, and John John.
Why not Saxe-Coburg, her own lineage?
Victoria was of the House of Hanover. Her children belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha by her husband Prince Albert. Her heir was Edward VII of S-C-G. His heir was George V, who changed the dynasty name to Windsor because of WWI. His heir was Edward VIII of the House of Windsor, who abdicated in favor of his brother George VI. The former king's style was changed to "Duke of Windsor", an honorary title (Wallace being a divorced woman and all) granted by Parliament that he could not pass on. George VI had only daughters. The eldest inherited the crown in her own right as a monarch of the House of Windsor, but her children belong to her husband's house, just the same as Victoria's children weren't Hanoverians.
OK, thank you! I yield to your superior knowledge. :-)
Sooooo.... a television program about the Windsors would be a documentary or historical piece? I would 10/10 watch that!
He picked both their mother and their boarding school.
The eldest inherited the crown in her own right as a monarch of the House of Windsor, but her children belong to her husband's house, just the same as Victoria's children weren't Hanoverians.
Actually..that was by Victoria's choice as a way of honoring her husband. Apparently she really loved him. Queen Elizabeth II's children however are Mountbatten-Windsors, by her decree.
The children of great people regress towards the mean.
Funny, all I hear is those sons sound exactly like their father, same cadence, same fast onslaught of verbiage. I hear none of that Boston Irish spoken by the Kennedys.
I do think they are great looking children, but I would hate to have another dynasty appear.
This is what our aristocracy is supposed to look (and sound) like (though Eric looks more like his father than women may like).
We're not supposed to have an aristocracy. We fought a freaking revolution and Civil War to get rid of our aristocracy.
Like in Rome with Caesar, from now on the American President will be referred to as "Trump", or maybe "The Trump", or "Trump II, III ,IV", etc.
Beware the Ides of March.
"Like in Rome with Caesar, from now on the American President will be referred to as "Trump""
And from now on, political convention stages will have real marble columns, the best and greatest columns.
We're not supposed to have an aristocracy. We fought a freaking revolution and Civil War to get rid of our aristocracy.
Odds of you voting for Clinton are awfully high....

Which is one reason I was so opposed to a Clinton-Bush match up when when everyone was expecting one.
Predictions of a Trump dynasty are ridiculously premature. It would be helpful not to decide individuals are headed for political stardom based on one good speech. People in both parties do that.
I think Scott Adams is talking nonsense.
The similarity to the Kennedy family comes because the only people Donald Trump trusts are members of his family - and there is no other movement.
Donald trump Jr. is amuch better politician than his father, and it might be natural to think he should run for Congress or something, if you have got to have somebody nameeed Trump.
"Predictions of a Trump dynasty are ridiculously premature."
I can remember back when those who commented on Caroline(you know)Kennedy always threw out the apparently obligatory possible future president comment.
Freder: " We're not supposed to have an aristocracy. We fought a freaking revolution and Civil War to get rid of our aristocracy."
Be quiet and get back behind the Clinton rope line peon.
And don't even think about making eye contact with Hillary.
Odds of you voting for Clinton are awfully high.
Yes they are, but I am not happy about it. I am no fan of the Clintons.
In fact I will probably vote Green if as is most likely, Clinton doesn't have a chance of winning my state (Louisiana). Just like I voted for Nader in 2000 when I lived in Kansas. If I had lived a couple miles further east (in Missouri) I would have voted for Gore
Please, no Trump dynasty. We need The Donald to bust up the rotten culture of Washington. He's already done that to some degree. He's really busted up the conservatives. The National Review wing is in tatters. Erick Erickson is a lost soul as is Bill Kristol who, I suspect, will head back to whence he came, the Democrats.
But once Trump has broken up the cultural elite structure across D. C., his work will be done, imho. The left got too big for their britches in the last cycle. They really have opened the door to a lot of the civil unrest, albeit unwittingly.
"Predictions of a Trump dynasty are ridiculously premature."

But on the bright side he can continue giving $$$ to both sides, although the Trump brand will take a major hit he may be persona non grata everywhere. Shocking!
Funny how in a few short months, Trump has gone from tacky, usurping pretender to dynasty.
"Let's not leave Barron out this Kennedy equation."
I wonder if Barron was named after Trump's friend Barron Hilton who Trump helped by buying at full price Hilton's new hotel/casino in Atlantic City when Hilton was surprisingly denied a gambling licence a few years ago. Barron Hilton was the second and more accomplished son of Conrad Hilton. The oldest son was Conrad (Nicky) Hilton Jr. who at one time was married to Elizabeth Taylor and died young due to alcohol abuse. Barron Hilton was named for his mother who was from Kentucky and Barron was her maiden name.
Trump and Barron Hilton both are younger sons of very accomplished fathers and each had older brothers who apparently struggled with the pressures and obligations of being the oldest sons becoming alcoholics and dying young. Could be he just liked the name.
I do hope Barron survives his mother's uber-protectiveness.

Your ignorance regarding the Trump brand and activities outside the US is not surprising in the least.
And the idea that strategic plans for post-Presidential run outcomes aren't already in place is even more amusing.
Blacks will vote for Trump because his wife's name is melanin.
Agreed that the Princedom of Wales is through the reigning monarch. My point is that at least one of Prince Charles's sons, and maybe both, went by the "Wales" last name when in military service. It wasn't XYZrank Windsor, but rather XYZrank Wales. For, example this article: Prince Harry retires from British Army, ends 10-year military career starts out with:
Goodbye, Captain Harry Wales!
Prince Harry officially retired from the British Army on Friday, ending a 10-year military career that included two tours of duty on the front lines of Afghanistan.
Yes..both of Charles' sons went by Wales while in the military. Their father is the Prince of Wales, so it was a way of honoring him. But under British law, their last name is either Windsor (by their letters patent) or Mountbatten-Windsor (decree of the Queen).
Going by Wales was also a way of de-emphasizing the fact that they were royals, and that they expected not to receive the royal treatment.
Comparing one Democratic family to another, m'kay. Well, he had to run as a Repub, only way to lock up the nomination. Saw a Post headline saying Ivanka spoke like a Democrat and the Republicans loved it.
Surfaces.

Re: the "John and Jack" error.
I don't recall the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. ever being known as Jack. I think people used to tease him with the moronic John-John, especially when the slightly less than brilliant publisher of George, the magazine that couldn't define itself, made a few oblique nods towards a political career. He mayn't have been the brightest light on the tree, but he had the good sense to know Uncle Ted was no kingmaker.
Therefore, John could be the son, and Jack the father.
