"Democrats Begin Nudging Sanders Off the Stage" — sounds like they want to see the old man to tumble into the orchestra pit.

On the front page of the NYT right now:

He's not going to have any new elevated status in the party. They're going to relegate him to the back of the chamber and not return his calls unless they need him to vote on something. His position may even be degraded.

"...nudging Sanders off the stage."

Watch that first step, Bernie! It's a lulu..

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Sanders knows that Clinton is still vulnerable to the FBI investigation. If he really wants to be the alternative if Clinton is forced out of the race, then he needs to avoid conceding and he needs to avoid endorsing her. I don't think it will make a difference- if Clinton died tomorrow in a lightening strike, he wouldn't be the nominee, but I don't think he should make it easy for the Democratic Party to replace her with someone else.

Nothing happens to him while Ma's still alive.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Sanders may not go quietly.

Clayton Hennesey म्हणाले...

It's the plastic sheet on the empty rally hall floor that should worry him.

What an excellent idea. If Bernie should meet with an unfortunate accident, it would really jolt the Democratic Party. Hillary could deliver an electrifying eulogy about winning one for the Bernie and that eulogy would both energize and unite the party faithful. I bet she has focus groups refining the best possible death for Bernie and the best possible eulogy for her to deliver.

Well, the difference in pledged delegates is less than the number of super delegates. He has nothing to lose by continuing to the convention. He's not even a Democrat.

They probably won't go for him since he didn't win a majority.

(If the superdelegates aren't expected to overrule the majority then what the hell are they for?)

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

Yancey is correct. If Sanders exits before the convention, then the nomination likely goes to Slo Joe Biden when Hillary is pushed out by the pending FBI criminal referral. Whether or not there will be an indictment (and/or pardon) rests with one person - Barack Obama (through his AG Lynch). It will be quite easy - she will likely be given the choice between the two, with withdrawal for health reasons being the preferred outcome. There is serious speculation that the FBI has been waiting for the primaries yesterday to drop their criminal referral, so that they wouldn't be seen as playing politics. And too far after the Dem convention would make it hard to substitute someone for Hillary (it only worked in the NJ Senate race because the Dem dominated supreme ct didn't want to flip the seat to the Republcans - and probably more Rep dominated state Supreme Cts these days than Dem ones). If Sanders can stick around until the convention, he can make the claim that he was a reasonably close second in earned delegates, and so deserves the nomination. So, working backwards, it is pretty obvious that the Dem establishment wants him out, and why.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

Sometimes, it is hard for me to see who or what various Dem politicians, pundits, power brokers, and surrogates actually represent - is it Hillary? Obama? Themselves? There have been so notable defections from the Clintons to Obama since he was nominated. But here, they all seem to be on the same side - against Sanders.

THey're for proving Hillary's hold on party insiders.

There are other stages that the Democrats do not control.

JRoberts म्हणाले...

I can imagine the SNL skit already:

Bernie in a wheelchair and Hillary pushing him over a cliff.

Maybe they can use the same location where the Dems shot the Paul Ryan ad.

Birkel म्हणाले...

Are we still pretend-puzzled over which Democrat this helps?

eric म्हणाले...

By this time next week the country will be asking, "Bernie who?"

The media silence on any news covering Sanders, unless negative in some light, will be deafening. Unless he comes out and wholeheartedly endorses Clinton and calls her our next President or something.

n.n म्हणाले...

First, they nudged grandma off the cliff in order to pay for Obamacare. And, now, they nudge Sanders et al off the stage in order to secure their hegemony.

Nudging the nudnik.

Hagar म्हणाले...

I don't think Sanders responds well to "nudges."

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Just a note for any of you Bernie supporters who are about to hear Hillary make a "unity" pitch for your votes ...

All of her promises to you have an expiration date of November 9th, 2016. November 12th at the latest.

Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

No matter what they are.

Just keep that in mind.

LYNNDH म्हणाले...

You do know that is by chance (like when pigs fly) Hillary is indicted and forced out, then the Dems will go with Slo Joe. Then all of those NeverTrumpers will go for Joe. Joe is still a Dem and will do great damage to the country.

gbarto म्हणाले...

Funny how the AP story about her clinching the nomination came out at just the right time to take the air out of Bernie's sails in California. His supporters must really feel suckered right now.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Here's how Trump easily disposes of Joe Biden

The Klondike म्हणाले...

("If the superdelegates aren't expected to overrule the majority then what the hell are they for?") They are there to keep the likes of Donald Trump from winning the nomination. I bet the Republicans sure wish THEY had Automatic Delegates. (there is nothing Super about them...Automatic is a more appropriate term and should be what is used.)

Just sayin'

I hope Obama appoints Bernie to be Ambassador to Venezuela. They really need a Revolutionary down there.

MayBee म्हणाले...

Hillary left in 2008 and got Secretary of State. What will Hiilary give Bernie?

MayBee म्हणाले...

Remember in the 2008 election Bill Clinton was turned into a racist, like Trump now.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Will he endorse Hillary? Or Jill Stein?

If he endorses Jill Stein, she will have enough support to get onto the debate floor.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Hillary is all, "I'm a woman, hear me roar," and Jill Stein says bullshit!

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Meanwhile, Gary Johnson says, Donald Trump is a pussy.

And the New York Times says that Donald Trump says that Republicans are pussies.

Jaq म्हणाले...

They can't indict Hillary until he is out of the way, otherwise, the people will have won.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

He needs to leave so Biden can step in and save the party. His refusal to get on with his life is screwing up their beautiful plans.

Meade म्हणाले...

Be fair, Big Mike -- it isn't only girls and women. Joe Biden touches everyone inappropriately.

Eleanor म्हणाले...

Obama and Hillary chose a small town called Unity in New Hampshire to profess their undying love for each after she conceded the race to him. I was there, and you needed a shovel to get back to your car the bs was so deep. Maybe Hillary will do the same with Bernie. There's a small town in Rhode Island named Harmony.

PB म्हणाले...

Elections have consequences, Bernie. She won, now shut up and obey. It's the leftist way.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

I find it interesting that the Dems really only have four plausible candidates: Herself, Bernie, Slo Joe Biden, and Fauxhauntis Warren. And few consider the latter that really plausible as a top line candidate, but rather as a natural second liner. Dozen or two Republicans, which suggests strongly that the Dem party should change its name, maybe to the socialist democrats, just plain socialists, the statists, or maybe the autocrats. Maybe even the bureaucrats. This whole thing is so transparent, trying to push out Sanders so Biden can be positioned to step in if Herself is pushed out by her email problems. Sure, Herself wants to pivot to Trump. But with no real primaries left, she should be free to do it. Which probably means that a lot of the push to get Sanders out is coming from the Biden/Obama camp.

Static Ping म्हणाले...

I'm just glad they are not using "nudge" in the Monty Python sense.

bbkingfish म्हणाले...

Offstage, for the past two weeks, representatives of Donald Trump have been quietly courting Bernie for V-P. Trump feels that Bernie on the ticket would nail down the "missing third" of his strategy for dominating the white vote.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Offstage, for the past two weeks, representatives of Donald Trump have been quietly courting Bernie for V-P.

Because this country needs really old people running it.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@Meade, what do you know about Biden that I don't?
