Storm moving in.
Today, on University Avenue, at about 11 a.m.
I got out my camera because I didn't think I'd ever seen a dark line through the clouds like that. It almost looks like a photo of the lake, but that's all sky above the buildings.

That hardly qualifies as a "Dark Line of Clouds". Sounds like you have never seen a major storm before. Go out West for a while.
Ron, what I'm talking about is the dark line through the center of the clouds that are lighter on either side. I've never seen clouds like that before.
Global Cooling Cometh.
Is this an omen?
Something like the storm coming, at the end of "The Terminator"?
My hubs thought it was a lake. But he also growing old..
It looks like a shelf cloud, which is often a harbinger of a violent thunderstorm.
Looked like that in Edmund, OK about an hour ago. Getting dicey here.
Time to get off the water.
Oh wait, I already did.
I was racing to get something done in the garden before it rained. Unfortunately I didn't notice the sky.
Very cool.
Dark clouds exactly like that daily here in Floeida in the wet season. Last night as the sun for example...
I think that's a tidal wave.
I recognize the UW chemistry department building cluster. I spent a lot of time in there.
I don't need a weatherman to tell me that squall line is coming from the west south-west.
Just left Madison today. Was on the Van Galder bus from Chazen to O'Hare.
I had a very family, real America weekend. Memorial Day parade and roll call and shooting guns!
Now I am back in very unreal America=Cambridge, Mass! The people's republic!
One thing about Madison and Wisconsin, though is a lack of color. A bunch of pasty boring whites in Madison!

My sister posted photos of the Memorial Day parade in her Chicago neighborhood, far from the 66 shootings.

Wow.
If you'd have told me it was a photo from San Francisco, I would have bought it.
Like you're looking down one of those streets toward the bay and your dark line of clouds is the other side..
Don't see Alcatraz, though.
@Althouse: Did you use a special lens effect? The lamp posts down the street are straight up and down while the building appear distorted and tilting in. Not criticizing your artist style. What would a normal lens effect look like?
Did the storm develop?
Clouds so swift -- rain won’t lift. Gate won’t close; railings froze. Get your mind off wintertime.
Wish-fulfillment desire absolutely affects what we think our eyes "see" and this is a paradigm-level example.
Demanding something more diversely contoured, the vision reflects a sub or un (I don't know the difference and never have even though I was tested on it) conscious near-need for a peaceful mountain town near ultra-blue water.
Buckley might have recommended a visit to Gstaad. Knowing the white snow is to be water that someday will become ultra-blue focuses the sub and un toward not anxiety but optimal gratitude derived from the magnitude understood.

You got that Gram right.
Sort of looks like Burlington from Main Street looking down at the lake and across at the Adirondack Park.
I saw something similar driving through Iowa yesterday afternoon. It might have been the same storm -- it dropped torrential rain on us for about 10 minutes as we approached Mason City from the east.

If you click on my photos, you'll get to a page that has info on the camera.
In this case, it was just my iPhone. I wasn't doing anything to try to make this anything other than a snapshot. I was walking, grabbed the phone, made the shot -- one shot. That's all this is. Can't explain the fisheye effect other than to guess the iPhone is programmed to know a wide angle is wanted.

I was thinking exactly the same thing!
Great picture. Last time we saw clouds like this on earth the heavens were about to part nd unleash t this https : // en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Western_Australian_storms.
Id you didn't mind siting out rain (which doesn't happen much in that part north of Perth for long, you could buy damaged cars at 75% off. And you had to pick the bugs from your teeth and wear goggles. A bit breezy. Almost art deco in the pattern of dimples. But great cars, a number of cheap cheap window replacement shops popped up. Western Australia is famous for these cloud fronts. Pretty and awesome at the same time. Helps humans realize how insignificant they are and incapable of doing anything harmful to the dirt they worship compared to what the dirt itself can do, especially the dirt falling from space. What created the Gulf of Mexico? Oh yeah. Killed most of the life on your ball of dirt. From our side of the crater the dust didn't settle for a century. Amazing that what existed a few centuries before them could have got at least a few of you off your planet if it they weren't socialists, with no wealth and no price signals or dreamers.
Are you sure that isn't a haboob?
It looks like a massive tidal wave. It's probably too late.
