"He’s trying, and honestly, he’s trying and I will tell you what, I honestly think he understands that building and unifying and growing the party is the only way we’re going to win. And I think he gets that."

Said Reince Priebus.
Priebus also suggested that Trump would pivot into general election mode but that it might take some time, remarking that in private, the candidate is "far more gracious and personable than I think you see at rallies."...

[Priebus] rejected the notion that Trump's campaign would assume a firm grip over the convention process, saying people on the candidate's team have shown "no indication" of seeking control of the party.... "It's the party's party."
ADDED: The quote in the post title is talking about Trump as if he's a child.

Priebus is an apparatchik. He has a job and the only requirement of that job is keeping the party wheels turning. I don't think he cares if we have a border or not. I have no worries about him.

The problem is the Romney wing of the party pays the bills. Paul Ryan does want open borders. They all want obamacare in place. They want government to grow every year. The donors give the Republican party money to accomplish those goals.

Priebus just wants to keep the lights on. He would have to get a real job if they don't make some kind of deal.

What is Paul Ryan going to do? The open borders crowd is bailing out. If he keeps selling out the country he will lose the speakership and be primaried. Can Paul Ryan be a part of a party that puts Americans ahead of his donors?

Bush, Graham, Ryan, and Romney would rather have Hillary than Trump. It just shows the RINO label was 100 percent correct.

McCain would be out there saying the same thing, but he needs to win in November, so he's still pretending to be a conservative. So, he lets his daughter speak for him.

They'd rather have one of the most liberal Presidents ever, who might appoint 3 SCOTUS judges, than support someone who opposes Open borders and the billionaire Donors.

No shit. Do you think that even in big, bad NYC real estate deals get put together if some arrogant clown waltzes into the room & tells everyone present "Gentlemen, I'm here to piss down your backs & tell you it's raining"? That may very well be the reality of it in the end (generally, the back-pissing is in secret & reciprocated).

Trump knows how to behave. I mean, in all his years attending galas has he ever walked up to a young lady with a nice set in a low cut gown & said "Wow! Those are nice! Fish 'em out & let's have a look at 'em." Nope. I don't think so, or else we'd know about it.

So, the question is: why the shtick at the rallies? How did he discover "well, it works..."?

Mitt Romney took a dump on the floor and dared Trump to step in it. "I drove 500 miles with a dog on my car," he snarled. Trump blinked in amazement.

You can be gracious, personable, and charismatic when in a one on one interaction or with a small group where you are persuading them to accept your 'deals'. That works. It doesn't work in a venue where you have thousands...tens of thousands of people who you are trying to persuade. You need to be big...BIGGER and exude the charisma. Everyone, even those at the back of the stadium need to feel the light, the power, the charisma. You need to be expansive and more than you ever would in a small crowd.

I used to entertain, sing and play guitar. Did some USO shows and other venues where there were literally thousands of people. My make up was extreme. Something that I would never ever wear in person. Red exaggerated lipstick, heavy eye makeup, big fluttery fake eyelashes, red almost neon nail polish. Exagerated expansive hand gestures. If you didn't exaggerate, you looked washed out and the people in the back were not very impressed.

This is what Trump is doing. Crowd control and public speaking 101.

Dan Hossley म्हणाले...

The Republican party is undergoing a realignment. The old guys don't like that because their pretty comfortable with the way things are. I seem to remember that the old guard weren't keen on Reagan either. But they eventually got on board, lest they find themselves with no seat at the table.

Trump is no Reagan, but he is Trump. It's about time for a realignment in the party. Many democrats think it's their time for change also, but it's not to be this time. You don't get much more establishment than Bill and Hillary. I that regard, Trump is fortunate in his opponent. Hillary has a long record of failure in just about everything she does, except investing in cattle futures. She's real good at that.

I think we should surround Trump with solid advice and strong teamwork and stop trying to find a safe space for being conservative. He's an initiator, not a policy wonk. He should be hearing how conservative policies would work when he wins and he has to govern. He should be hearing - here's an idea, here's a way; he shouldn't be hearing - accept this or that baldly stated conservative position or we'll throw ourselves on the floor, hold our breath till we turn blue and vote for Hillary.

We should be promoting the ideas of Scott Walker, for example, as a way to solve the pension crises which will emerge in the next four years. The idea is we say: "Look, the states could solve the problem by not letting public service unions run the pension and health insurance process. You, President Trump, don't have to solve it - you just have to point out the solution (Act 10), make it clear in your own inimitable way, and return the problem to the states."

@ Meade Hillary will misuse American troops long before Trump. Recommendations that Hillary made while SOS are resulting in the misuse of American troops today in Iraq and Syria today. All you have to look at is the current administration's misuse of troops and you will see where Hillary will go. You have noted, I am sure, that we have lost three personnel over the last few weeks and there will be more to come. There are many more troops in Iraq than the administration admits - fudging the numbers by not counting temporary duty personnel.

Trump knows the value of negotiation rather than send in a few troops here and there. No one is going to take any threat Hillary might make seriously. With Trump, adversaries won't be sure what, or when, his final move might be. That will require that they be much more cautious in negotiations.

I would enjoy your educating me on the proper use of armed forces. A little review of your military background would be helpful. Feel free, as you say.

Hillary stood on the coffins of dead veterans after Benghazi and lied to their parents faces. She did unto them an act of supreme dishonor. That could have been my parents. They probably would have believed her.

Trump cares about veterans. He cares about what we want. He would put us and our safety over the people we fight. He would send us in to kill our enemies, not win their hearts and minds. When he talked about killing the families he was listening to vets. In WWII we annihilated Tokyo, Dresden, Nagasaki, Hiroshima. We weren't bombing soldiers and we knew it. We knew we had to win. Bush started out ok though he still cowered before the PC police. He changed for the worse and eventually abandoned us.

Trump wont send us in unless it is to win. We haven't had that kind of honesty since Truman.

But they are making it easy. They want nothing to do with the Republican Party, or Republican "donors." They want war with the establishment GOP. Um, okay. Buh-bye. Good luck in November.

Republicans are already making plans. Few of the people who might stand up to Trump will attend the convention. The delegates will attend, of course. Most of them will be bound, to Trump's nomination on the first ballot. And most of them will be disappointed with that choice. A strange convention.

But in the end, the Trump excuse that he wasn't supported by "the GOPe" will have been erased. By Trump and his supporters. With all of their attack-quotes against the Party. Hell; if there is a Democrat landslide in November, the Trumpkins will have written Trump's own epitaph, he ran as a Republican, against the Republicans. Duh.

You people are being deliberately obtuse.

We knew we were killing the families of those 20,000 soldiers. The families. Wiping out Tokyo and all of the women and children of the soldiers that were out on the front was considered a feature, not a bug. We bombed the living daylights out of Dresden knowing that not only did we have to break the military forces, we had to break Germany. The people of Germany. Nagasaki was turned into glass with far more "civilian" casualties than any number of factories that were there.

I don't give a fuck how militarily valid they were. They were no more valid than the compounds islamists live in, sleep in, and grew up in. If you want to defeat Radical Islamism you have to kill a lot of people. Period. At this point saying that COIN and Hearts and Minds just needed a generation to work is obvious garbage.

I was all for helping the women in those countries get out from under the sick and disgusting thumb of Sharia Law. But you want to know something about those women? Most of them held their daughters down on a table and cut their clitoris's and labia's off. Without anesthesia. Fuck that and them.

It is time to change course. If people want to create democracy or some other good deed around the world at this point it should be a private venture. The US Army is not the right tool for the job. Our civilian leadership is too inconsistent and to be honest pathetic. I am really not sure if you people are even willing to let other people defend you much less do it yourselves. Thinking about most of you actually going through 11B Basic Training is actually kinda humorous.

And taking Ukraine's Nukes away from it was obviously stupid. Depending on the US to maintain peace around the world is not bright. Eventually the US will not be here as it is today. We already stabbed Ukraine in the back. They should be allowed to have their nukes back because they obviously can't count on us.

Already we have well thought of people saying "That's not who we are" on a daily basis as if they have any fucking clue who we are or why we are here. If you take issue with Trump saying we need to kill the families of terrorists you are taking issue with reality or you doing actually want to defeat terrorism. That used to be the province of the left. But apparently some "conservatives" are into moral preening and virtue signaling too.

Bush saw the same ISR pic's we saw. He knew the Sarin was shipped to Syrian just before the invasion. He had the reports of all of the shit we found and destroyed. Why did he let us flap in the wind? Why didn't he fight the No WMD's lie?

Bush bailed on us. He had a job to do and he let us down by not speaking up and fighting their lies. I am not even going to get into the new entitlement or TARP or not reigning in Fannie/Freddie when he knew it was a problem.

Achilles, yhou need to explain all that about Iraq and Bush and WMD to your pal Trump. He's part of the "Bush lied, people died" crowd, remember? Heck of a candidate you've got there.

Why, oh why are otherwise intelligent people advocating that Trump pick a Dem for VP?????? What's wrong, he doesn't have enough problems with conservatives?

There is no Dem candidate alive who would not rather stab themselves in the jugular and bleed out rather than work with a GOP, let alone give up the second highest (?) office in the land to one.

And everyone seems to be in favor of "Jim Webb." I'm sure he's a great guy, but if you're going to do that, you need to choose someone already universally beloved. I'd never heard of "Jim Webb" until this nonsense started.

This is a major, major part of what's wrong with conservatives and the GOP. Dems hate us; think we are the true enemies, not ISIS; but "we" are so proud of ourselves for being willing to "reach out." And look where it's gotten us.

Why do you think? Becaue they aren't conservatives. They just want to "make America great again" and that means getting their would-be-dictator elected, and they've made clear that they're cool with him saying or doing whatever helps him get his grubby, short-fingered mitts on power. They have no principles to sell out; all they're interested in is electing their cult-of-personality leader.

Has Trump seen any of that? Have most republicans seen any of that? Have most Americans been made aware of this information? No they haven't. I am not going to hold Trump at fault for information that has been with held from him.

Why is Bush holding this back? Why did Bush abandon us? Why is he allowing the country to believe what Trump believes? I am not even supposed to be talking about that stuff. I blame Bush for knowing and allowing this to become the meme when it is a lie. Bush is the only person who was in a position to affect this.

The people pushing this are dem's in the media and moby's like Simon. Not republicans and Trump has already ruled out a democrat VP.
