That's a lovely shot, Ann. Any idea what trees those are that flower so early? I'm in northern NY and got nothing but daffs so far. Tim

Thanks for posting pictures of the UW Arboretum, Professor. My grandfather was a dairy science professor at UW during the 1930's and 1940's, and he liked to experiment with color photography. He took a lovely color photo around 1939/40 of my grandmother and my mother when she was a little girl at the Arboretum with the flowers in full bloom. I'm glad to see the Arboretum is still as lovely.

The D's somber mood over Tuesday's primaries seemed misplaced until it was revealed today the FBI was interviewing Clinton aides. Now it makes much more sense...

And green!

Our warm February and March has lead to an earlier than usual Palo Verde bloom (yellow but now gone) and an early (right now) Saguaro blooming.

PS Yesterday was our first 100 degree day of the year.

Little known fact about Mexico -

The characteristic musical form in Mexico, until quite recent times, was the waltz (vals) - yes, the stuff Strauss was famous for. No, not the predecessors of the narcocorrido.

There are dozens-or hundreds of Mexican waltzes, from a couple of dozen composers.
Highly recommended if you like this sort of thing - a selection of what was popular in Mexico pre-1920s. Dance music, because they loved to dance.

Available on Althouse portal !

This isn't anything like the "Cucaracha" (which isn't even Mexican) nor mariachi, which was a late development from Jalisco.

Listened to Limbaugh today. Just as I thought.

"Conservatism works every time it's tried."

Limbaugh long time mantra.

"It is what it is."

Limbaugh today, his favorite saying!

That was then, this is know!

"He really didn't say what he said about raising minimum wage."

"You're just mad now, you'll come around."

Geez! Trump must have the goods on Limbaugh!

Now that Mick Jaeger doesn't want Donald using any of the Stones tunes I think the campaign needs a few suggestions.

I think this Classic Rock hit is perfect for boarding the Trump Train.

PS: I am quite seriously. As much as I dislike Trump this would be a great crowd energizer.

The Speaker of the House is now withholding all support from Trump. He has crossed DC Rubicon as the new bought Wall Street Representative who believes donor Money Talks and Trump's voters walk.

The Janesville Flash is probably betting that Trump will not sell off assets to run a campaign without the Big Donors calling the tune. And they all like Hillary's style of selling off Government favors to them. Last week a Koch Brother asked for her to cut them a deal. And Ryan is showing he is their loyal servant.

Playing this kind of hard ball politics at this crucial time makes slinky Ted Cruz look very trustworthy in comparison.

Did your grandfather know Karl Paul Link, the discoverer of WARFARIN ?

It is named that for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation which funded his work.

It was an enormous medical discovery.

chickelit म्हणाले...

It was an enormous medical discovery.

Not just Karl Link, but Harry Steenbock and later, Hector De Luca. They "discovered" vitamin D and cured rickets.

I grew up a few miles from Link's mansion on the west side of Madison. We used to drive by there at night just to look at that pretty house.

A Letter from Miss Harriet Tubman, Kansas, 1954:

No, I am not THAT Harriet Tubman.

I don't know what is happening here.

It is May Fifth, and our Town's two Mexicans are whooping it up in Town Square, drinking and saying things in Mexican. Mexicanian? Whichever.

No self-respecting white woman will even go near.

I wonder if their is a day like this when the Negroes get all uppity, but we don't have Negroes in our town so I wouldn't know what that would be.

Even the Chinks at the Laundry seem upset.

Is this what America is coming to? Mexicans everywhere, hooting and hollering?

I can only pray our Government will take care of this problem.

I am Laslo.

Chickelit and Michael K, I don't know if he knew Dr. Link, but his PhD dissertation at UW in 1931 was on the effect of Vitamin D on dairy calves. He left UW in the early 1940's to head up the Dairy Science dept. at Texas A&M. I guess his biggest claim to fame is that one of his students there was Ed Kruse who started ice cream production at Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham, Texas.

"It's a question embedded in the name of the organization. The Can You Not PAC plans to discourage straight white men from running for office in Colorado's diverse districts. The hope is that will clear the lane from female, minority and LGBTQ candidates."

Why so bigoted against female, minority, and LGBTQ candidates as to hope they clear the lane I wonder, and why so Freudianly honest about it?

Typo, really?

It would work really well to show the bigots bogoting in terms of clearing the lane.
