"The thing is... when you're called, you're called. And I hear things in my sleep..."

"... I walk around, I go in the bathroom and try to brush my teeth, and all of a sudden, the toothbrush'll start vibrating. And that's a groove, you know? And you gotta go with that. And that means drop the toothbrush and get down to the studio, or get to a bass guitar quick, you know? And I don't know, my best things just come out like that. To me, making a song is like a new girl walking in the room. You never know what's going to happen until all the things come together. And there she stands. And she says hi. You know, you want to take a bite of this orange? You bite it, it's cool, and I send it to you."

Comparing apples with oranges again.

"Comparing apples with oranges again."

Yes, that idea was in Prince's original quote. A woman, Eve like, appears and offers him a bite of the fruit. It's an orange!

By the way, orange is the complementary color to purple.

"By the way, orange is the complementary color to purple."

The three traditional sets of complimentary colors, as derived from the Red-Yellow-Blue color model, are red and green, yellow and purple, and orange and blue.

I am Laslo.

Wow. Prince dies -- think of the possibilities -- but Laslo posts a correction on the color wheel.
This must be some sort of head game and now I am wondering how the color wheel relates to anal sex.

Why Every Movie Looks Sort of Orange and Blue

Love the "Amelie, color graded in orange and blue like Transformers (top), and Transformers, color graded in green and gold like Amelie (bottom)"

I am Laslo.

Nope. Orange is the complementary color to Blue. Which is why a lot of teams have that color combo. Like the Bears. Stunning.

And then I read Peggy Noonan today: "My Moment came a month ago. I’d recently told a friend my emotions felt too close to the surface—for months history had been going through me and I felt like a vibrating fork."

Sure enough, the rest of her column reads like a prosaic version of "When Doves Cry". When you're called, you're called.

I really liked his style. But that sneaky Prince guy was a master seducer of women. That made other men react to him either in jealousy or pride in seeing the ultimate male skill on display. It helped that he was so short.

Burt Bacharach once said he had music going in his head all the time.

Fortunately, Bacharach's music is good.

Oh, yes... too bad... you're right (except for the spelling of "complementary").

I sometimes hear great music in my sleep and sometimes pick up musical vibes from the most unlikely sources but I'm certainly no musical genius.

Not even close.

There's some theory in evolutionary psychology that schizophrenia is an expression of a maladaptive coordination of separate mental modules, IIRC.

I'm not at all qualified to have a useful opinion as to whether that theory is valid or whether it's complete rubbish.

I once saw a documentary on some drummer -- maybe it was Elvin Jones.

I remember a scene where he was sitting at the drums and talking to the camera and explaining how he plays. He whacked one of the cymbals and said that it was kind of yellow. Then he whacked another one and said it was kind of blue. Then he whacked both and said it was kind of green . . . "you hear that?"

He seemed like maybe he was a little bit nutty.

I think he was supposed to be some kind of a musical genius.

Daniel Tammet has some amazing arithmetic and memory abilities; he visualizes numbers as having shapes and colors.
"Baron-Cohen [Borat's brother], Bor and Billington investigated whether Tammet's synaesthesia and Asperger syndrome explained his savant memory abilities in a further study published in Neurocase in 2008."

Please let me know when it's not too soon to criticize Prince......,.Why are people so enamored of their favorite musicians? I'm not knocking his talent, but it doesn't seem he led such an exemplary life or had much to offer beyond his music.......I think Irving Berlin or Cole Porter were more talented cmposers, but no one ever considered listening to their songs a life changing experience.

Haha! Damn, I wish you had intentionally used "your" instead of "you're", just to see what would happen. I do it myself sometimes, for fun.

"Bold As Love"

Anger, he smiles,
towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted,
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready,
But wonder why the fight is on
But they're all bold as love, yeah, they're all bold as love
Yeah, they're all bold as love
Just ask the axis

My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war,
and ribbons of euphoria
Orange is young, full of daring,
But very unsteady for the first go round
My yellow in this case is not so mellow
In fact I'm trying to say it's frigthened like me
And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from, eh,
Giving my life to a rainbow like you
But, I'm eh , yeah, I'm bold as love
Yeah, yeah
Well I'm bold, bold as love (hear me talking, girl)
I'm bold as love
Just ask Altman (she knows everything)
Yeah,
yeah,
yeah!

I never was a big fan of Prince's music and I was mostly fascinated by his look and his bisexual fashion sense. Yesterday after watching and listening to some of his performances, especially at the Super Bowl and at the George Harrison Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and some interviews he did with Tavis Smiley, I "got it."
