"Marauding parents in Easter Egg hunt rampage."

"Out-of-control adults push children to the ground, steal their buckets and leave one four-year-old 'bloody' at chaotic free event/Children were trampled as 1,000 people stormed the PEZ center field/9,000 eggs were laid out on three different age-bracketed sections/But when the egg hunt started, 'parents stormed the field stealing eggs'/One four-year-old was left 'bloody', many toddlers 'pushed into the mud.'"

In Orange, Connecticut.

In other Daily Mail news of American chaos: "Serial rapist killed by runaway trailer while distracted by porn on his cell phone in Memphis... just blocks from where he terrorized numerous women."

I'm in favor of a bag limit on easter eggs and a shorter season.

Someone should ask the marauding parents who they want to be president.

The idiots have raised morons who are now parents. My mother taught us long ago to stay away from "free" events. Nothing to keep out the riff-raff and we now have riff-raff in droves. Glad my mother isn't around to see it.

Lots of bad behavior, but most of the blame falls on PEZ for lousy organization. I can easily picture chaos erupting as parents send their small children into the field, see some adults go out, move in to make sure their own kids don't lose out, then shift to protecting their kids as things start to feel dangerous, and finally madness.

Look at where the interests lie. Of course once security broke down things spun out of control.

What? This happened on the East Coast? I thought these things only happened in flyover country. Or at least that's what my coastal betters have told me.

Wilbur म्हणाले...

I really don't understand ... I read the article, watched the 2 minute news video - what the hell was in these eggs that motivated people to behave this way? Candy? Money? Crack rocks?

The rule of Lemnity म्हणाले...

Which came first, the rapist or the egg?

Stephen Taylor म्हणाले...

Interesting. The Easter Egg Hunt was held in my small Southeast Texas hometown on Friday. Nothing like this happened. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. Prizes given. The high school baseball team helped the children. Complete unity and accord. even with a racially mixed crowd.

Oh, the Daily Mail. The gift that keeps on giving. My wife and I know that they'll always give us ALL the information we want about a crime suspect, including ethnicity and religion, and not just the information our media betters think we need to know.

You guys missed the real reason- Donald Trump was scheduled to appear there.

I thought I would look at the demographics of the town. Sounds like a bunch of Cruz voters to me. ;)

"The median income for a household in the town was $79,365, and the median income for a family was $88,583. Males had a median income of $58,946 versus $41,563 for females. The per capita income for the town was $36,471. About 2.1% of families and 2.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.4% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.[11]"

I think we will be seeing a lot more death-by-cell-phone-fixation. I see people, kids crossing the street with their eyes fixed on their mobile device.

Although, I don't understand the relationship between the Easter egg hunt, and the serial rapist run-over by a trailer.

Egg shortage in Orange CT leads to terrorism.....

Beldar म्हणाले...

So "Easter" is the only tag for this one?

You celebrate holidays strangely, Prof. Althouse.

Rob म्हणाले...

We need common sense egg hunt reform:

1. Universal background checks for all egg hunt participants.

2. Close the Easter loophole.

3. Exclude from egg hunts anyone who's ever been guilty of egg abuse, child abuse or self-abuse.

4. Impose absolute liability on egg producers, who are notoriously stupid.

Fernandinande म्हणाले...

No injuries were reported. Orange police did not respond to the event, but they did speak with company officials afterward.

Bob Ellison म्हणाले...

How is there an Orange, Connecticut? I could see Orange, Florida, or Orange, California. Even Orange, Alaska, as a wishful thing. Kinda like naming your basset hound "Happy".

But Orange, CT?

Comanche Voter म्हणाले...

Well what can you expect from East Coast liberals at play?

And as for the serial rapist who went to meet his Maker after meeting up with a trailer whilst watching porn on his cell phone? Put him first in line for this year's Darwin Awards. Tough to beat a performance like that.

When upper middle class white "meritocratic" entitlement intersects with New England Yankee social coldness sometimes the results can be explosive. Like the Easter Egg hunt.

This is exactly what it is. I have seen it several times in California. Parents wanting to protect their kids, mostly. Especially toddlers who have no idea what to do and get knocked down by bigger children.

Michael K म्हणाले...

"But Orange, CT?"

How about Orange , New Jersey ? Maybe the reference is to the color, not the fruit. Some pranksters in Chicago when I was in high school painted over the green center line in a street in the Irish neighborhood, painted there for St patrick's Day parade, with Orange. That's the color of the northern Irish Protestants. Maybe they settled those towns in New England.

What tag would you advise in addition to Easter?

I considered rape, but didn't want to put it next to Easter.

What else do I have a relevant tag for.

I considered chaos, but didn't already have a tag and resist making new tags.

White Trash is not a regional phenomenon. And, in the wake of post-war prosperity, it's not entirely an economic one, either.

Love the part in The Last Pictture Show where Sam quietly berates the boys for their trashy behavior. These days few people would recognize the shame.

There was no video posted of the melee, and I suspect dark forces behind that omission.

Yeah, meanwhile, only a matter of time before this happens in America

At least 63 people, mostly women and children, were killed and more than 300 others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a children's park in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan's Punjab province on Sunday evening, officials said.
