"I'm telling you. He's a stupid person!... Stupid Mitt. He is a dumb guy."

"The reason he doesn't like me is that I said 'You shouldn't run because you're a choke artist. You ran against Obama four years ago. It was a race that should have been an easy win.'... He made a fool of himself in the second and third debates. I don't know what happened to him.... What the hell did happen? Does anyone know?.... You know the sad part is I really helped the guy.... I mean, I gave him a lot of money. I raised a lot of money. I had two fundraisers in my apartment. In fact one of them was such a rainy day that it ruined the carpets in my apartment. Everyone's coming in. I had hundreds of people. My carpets were ruined. I think I'm going to send him a bill for new carpet... I hate people that think they're hot stuff and they're nothing... Romney's a bitter man.... Once a choker, always a choker."

Said Donald Trump, who's not a choker and who hasn't forgotten the hundreds of rain-wet feet that he allowed to muck up his carpets for Mitt. He subordinated himself like that in 2012. He was a Mitt mat. And now Mitt is trying to jerk the rug out from underneath Trump in 2016? Oh, the disloyalty! Trump hates disloyalty.

Romney made a catastrophic mistake with that speech. I don;t know who advised it but it may be the same guy who designed his campaign in 2012. If you want to be the compromise guy they turn to in a deadlock, you don;t tell half the electorate to go to hell. Or that they are stupid.

You especially don;t make accusation against him that were used against you ! Like hiding tax returns.

I was a Romney supporter and gave him more money than I have ever given a candidate.

Trump's enemies are way more exciting when he talks about them, than in real life

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Trump is big on "don't break your deals with me or you will pay a price." He already told Paul Ryan as much.

That gets him into trouble with the Peace at any price Party. Being the second man to swing in the fight is the one that seems to draw the penalty. Which says stop the fighting back because all fighting is ugly...and the children, the children are watching.

But Trump guys are the ones who need lawyers and Courts. The anti Trump guys are the ones who hide and use other poor fools to do their fighting for them, like Romney did when was faced with Obama and Candy Crowley.

Trump would have so much less support if his enemies would just shut up.

Don't the anti-Trumpers understand: that he makes so many of your heads explode like the guy in "Scanners" isn't a bug, it's a feature.

For the rest of us, at least we have a great piece of insight on the nature of Mitt Romney that allows us in retrospect to see just how he lost in 2012.

Coming from Trump, a true genius. All the "poorly educated" that he so loves are duly impressed.

Trumpites use lawyers to do their fighting for them and non-Trumpites use other poor fools to do their fighting for them. Got it.

Romney's wire service obit will mention that speech. A detailed obit will mention how seemingly every four years since 1980 Mitt pops out of a hole to screw up on a grand scale then pops back into the hole. Mitt's back in his hole for 2016.

Best analysis, of what Mitt did and why, was by Joe Malone, former Treasurer of Massachusetts, on the Howie Carr Show, last Thursday, the day of the speech. Dig up a podcast and listen, a lot of inside baseball of Mass. politics but a few telling anecdotes about the former governor, as if you need anymore, concerning the man they call, Mittens.

Let us analyze why bring up the carpet. Because it is unusual. He is a billionaire who can redo his apartment 1000x times over. Here is my take: 1) it conjures up the image of hordes and hordes of people piling into his apartment; and 2) that he cares about a silly thing as a ruined carpet like everyone in the audience there. Trump is a genius.

So did I. In fact I made a contribution in June of 2012 and ordered two of those red Romney T-shirts.

The shirts arrived on November 16. He even choked on the T-shirts.

If Trump loses are you going to call him a choke artist and a loser? Is Trump then going to acknowledge he was really a joke of a candidate?

David Begley म्हणाले...

Why didn't Trump have a rug or mat in front of his door? Or somewhere in Trump Tower? Why didn't the Masters of the Universe wipe their feet?

mccullough म्हणाले...

I wouldn't not be surprised if Trump turns a profit off this campaign.

Trump on the outside is who Mitt Romney is on the inside.

I'm not impressed with business guys like Trump or Romney. But I was impressed with Ross Perot. He built up a successful business and argued in favor of the American worker. He was right about NAFTA and other trade deals and how they would devastate a lot of blue collar workers. But they were great for Mitt Romney. He made a lot of money. But he didn't build anything. And he stakes his sons in their business ventures, just like Trump's dad did. And he dodged the draft, just like Trump. Romney's a plutocrat. But he is an honorable man.

If Trump loses, he will be loser.

Sebastian म्हणाले...

"Why didn't Trump have a rug or mat in front of his door?" Who believes the carpet story?

Yes, Mitt ran a poor campaign, no, it didn't decide the election.

अनामित म्हणाले...

@pm317 I have associated with a few very rich people and they would all remember the carpet because a majority of them tend to keep a scorecard of petty offenses to their person in their head. Things you'd think they wouldn't care about, but they do, not because they are "like you and me and care about the carpet," but because it's an affront to their huge, bloated, overly sensitive egos. (Don't even get me started on the mind games played with their own spawn when it comes to estate planning.)

He's a big, red-faced, corpulent, celebrity rich man and Americans like seeing that on open display. Many of them want to be that - it is an ideal. He *is* funny/entertaining and that takes the edge of some of his more horrific proposals, but he is most certainly not a "genius," that absurdly overused term. Tesla is a genius; Trump and Kanye West, not so much.

Still, better than Cruz.

About Romney and Trump, this much is clear and has been for some time --

The guy is a fraud. A privileged, arrogant, self-inflated, selfish fraud that cares primarily about himself and lacks any real principles.

And don't get me started on Trump.

CatherineM म्हणाले...

So Trump, who sees himself as a genius, made a really poor investment in a loser like Romney? Ok.

Mark म्हणाले...

Trump would have so much less support if his enemies would just shut up

This is why I blame the GOP Establishment, Megyn Kelly and Fox for why we are where we are today. They created this monster, and managed to turn the whole election into a reality TV show in the process.

Meade म्हणाले...

I like this.

Mark म्हणाले...

The man has no shame. He has done enough damage, but he has no decency to simply go away. Instead he feels the need to keep screwing us some more.

Left Bank of the Charles म्हणाले...

Again, if you consider the likely effect of the Romney speech, can one really say there is any evidence that the Republican establishment is opposed to Donald Trump? It is a beautiful bit of chicanery how the establishment is running out the conservative Cruz by "not" supporting Trump. Whenever Trump shows any sign of weakness the establishment talks about the brokered convention and that shores Trump up again.

mccullough म्हणाले...

The establishments guy was Jeb and Rubio was the backup. Ponder that for a minute when these people tell you what economic and foreign policy are best for the US.

grimson म्हणाले...

"Romney's a bitter man," says Trump. I don't see that at all, but Trump sure seems to be.

I'd not paid much attention to Trump before he announced his candidacy, and maybe it's just the campaign, but he seems plenty unhappy for such a wealthy successful man.

Fabi म्हणाले...

I agree with YoungHegelian 100%. The anti-Trumpers have become so emotionally involved in their non-stop rants about Trump that they are damaging themselves, their "reputations" and their preferred candidates far more than they're damaging Trump or his supporters. It's entertaining to see how quickly they abandon logic in their attempt to derail the Trump Train. Apparently the end justifies the means. Priclipals not principles. All the methods and rationalizations that they -- until very recently -- vilified the left for employing. Lulz.

I agree that Mitt made a terrible mistake in criticisizing Trump, while not running against Trump or actively supporting a Trump opponent.

I am really hoping Jeb! re-surfaces with a prime time speech denouncing Trump - that's a 5 - 7 point bump for Trump in Ohio and Pennsylvania!

eric म्हणाले...

I like Mitt Romney, but I think his not remaining above the fray now and speaking out against Trump during the primary sets a terrible precedent. It's a shitty thing to do, and now it's only going to get worse.

pm317 म्हणाले...

@sojo when I say genius I don't mean genius genius.. Lol I agree he is still better than Cruz.

walter म्हणाले...

Given his glowing comments regarding Trump in the past, Mitt also is "flexible".

Big Mike म्हणाले...

I second what Fabi wrote.

Speaking personally, I don't think Donald Trump has what I want to see in a President. I can picture him unloading a snarky put-down on someone with access to nuclear weapons and there goes Washington, DC. I'd like to have a president who thinks before he speaks, and right now that leaves out Trump. Apparently that leaves out Mitt, too, but Donald is quite right to point out that Mitt blew a winnable election, and blew it badly. And that certainly diminishes his standing to pontificate on the current candidates.

walter म्हणाले...

BBB reports now they did not send a FAX to Trump during the debate.

Not only that, his interacting with campaign staff during the commercial break violated the rules of the debate.

Obviously Fox should disqualify him for violating the rules, and issuing a forged document.

So it goes...

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

As for carpet in a Political Statement type Penhouse, it would have been one of a kind specially woven wool and blended by decorator's eye with other unique furniture, accessories and paintings. In a big re-do job and it would require moving everything into storage to do it right.

There is a youtube from 2014 0f Trump's special Boeing 787 being maintained and refurbished just perfectly. It's worth watching even if it was someone elses.

After seeing that Mitt was coming out against Trump, a Trump supporter at my office asked "why isn't Mitt running? I'd vote for him or Bloomberg if either was to run instead of Trump."

अनामित म्हणाले...

So we are supposed to think Mitt is a terrible person because he accepted Trump's endorsement then and trashes him now? That's what Trump, in his typically juvenile, over-the-top, self-centered way, is saying. But we are NOT supposed to think Trump is a terrible person for having endorsed Mitt and then trashing him now?

Put me down as one of those who is happy to see Mitt Romney, whom I respect and for whom I voted, speak out about Trump I see his logic in doing so without endorsing a particular candidate---- he is speaking out as an observer, rather than a participant, in the primary process and can present himself as speaking as a concerned statesman who wants to save his party and his country, not as a politician trying to get political advantage for a candidate. I admire Mr. Romney for being willing to open himself up to the abuse and invective he knew would come his way after his speech.

I don't think I have ever agreed with Graydon Carter about anything, but I agree with him that Trump is a short-fingered vulgarian. And I see what he meant about Trump being obsessed with his hands. I wish more people knew the backstory on why Marco Rubio trotted out that particular insult. It hit the mark.

I would never put a Republican sticker on a vehicle here in Austin. It would be an invitation to be vandalised. The only stickers you see around here are Sanders and old Obama/Biden stickers. No Hillary at all. She may have won the primary but few are proud of voting for her.

Michael K म्हणाले...

He still has some thoughts of wanting to be the candidate. That was not the way to go about it.

If you hate Trump so badly that you would rather have Hillary in the White House, you are going about it properly.
