Crazy gun idea.

4,000+ people have signed a petition to allow guns inside the arena at the Republican National Convention.

YEEEE HAWWWWWW!!!!!

Tom म्हणाले...

That will probably be the safest, most polite place in America.

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

Is the petition to allow only "crazy" guns, or both sane and insane guns in?

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

Also I expect even without the petition there will be MANY guns in the arena--how many police and security personnel do you expect to be inside at any given time?

Lyle Smith म्हणाले...

I support it.

Brando म्हणाले...

It'll either ensure no floor fights, or a glorious shooting gallery.

YoungHegelian म्हणाले...

This time, comrade, the Revolution will be televised.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

I love it. Instead of confetti at the end, they shoot the balloons as they fall. And if stray fire hits the Fox News Booth, those are the breaks.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

I think the Secret Service will squelch that one really, really quickly!

Wilbur म्हणाले...

All of the signatories are Democrats. Thinkin' and a-prayin'. Wishin' and a-hopin'.

Sydney म्हणाले...

From what I've seen on Facebook, it's mostly the diehard crazy-liberals who are passing around the petition. I think they are hoping for violence.

Mark म्हणाले...

Based on the arguments I have heard from people for conceal carry, I don't see why people should be disarmed while attending this event.

Late night walks from convention center to parking lots are exactly the time to be carrying.

It doesn't seem necessary when the first responders include Secret Service. People should be assured that they will not have to wait for arrival of second responders to manage the violence and intimidation tactics of hate mobs.

Will there be anyone there we can't get along without?

Will there be anyone there we wouldn't be better off without?

4,000+ people have signed a petition to allow guns inside the arena at the Republican National Convention.

It's up to 11K now, and they want more than just allowing guns inside:

1. From the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland: allow guns.

2. From the National Rifle Association: somehow compel NRA to agree.

3. From Ohio Governor John Kasich: illegally force the arena to change their policy.

4. From Reince Priebus and the Republican National Committee: compel more speech.

5. From all Republican candidates for President: compel more speech.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

You have to imagine they all have gun training. You're not just handing out handguns to whoever.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

Not a good idea. However, if there is a threat of violence, then, Yes, allow guns.

If there is not, then treat it like a sporting event.

Gahrie म्हणाले...

Why is that crazy?

अनामित म्हणाले...

With all those well trained gun toting conservatives, why worry?

Bob Ellison म्हणाले...

This stinks of false-flag hypocrisy. Change.org is not a place for honest discussion and polling.

Tom म्हणाले...

Tell me, who would be safer, a convention full of armed Republicans or a convention full of armed Democrats?

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

I think the Secret Service will squelch that one really, really quickly!

I do think that is one of the big problems. I seem to remember VP Cheney going to a campaign event in Utah, and there being a big problem in this regard. The Utah Republicans demanding to be able to bring their concealed firearms to the event, and the Secret Service balking. Ultimately, it was apparently resolved by providing gun lockers for everyone who was carrying a firearm before they could enter the event. So, no, the Secret Service does not like this sort of thing. They can have their guns, but don't want anyone else to.

Dan Hossley म्हणाले...

Wow, that's crazy all right. Next thing they'll want is to check the ID's of people attending.

eric म्हणाले...

Armed neighbors make for friendly neighbors.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

I find the whole thing interesting (conceptually, I agree with the idea, and would sign the petition). In the real world, the Secret Service would ban guns, and, thus, it would be irrelevant whether or not the Quicken Loans arena did or did not allow guns. But, this is symbolic with the Republicans, just as pandering to Blacks, Women, homosexuals, etc. is symbolic to the Democrats. If things were completely reversed, including party, Secret Service, etc., the Dems would have to ban guns, for the same reason that Republicans want to allow them - it is pandering to their bases. I was going to say that while the Republicans have a single sacred cow, and the Democrats have a bunch of them, there really are more for the Republicans this time - notably crony capitalism and big business, which means that too close of a connection to this seamy side of politics is likely banned at the Republican convention this time, but likely still celebrated at the Democratic one, given their probable candidate.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

It would be impossibly hypocritical to deny this request.

RAH म्हणाले...

Not a crazy idea. If the attendees want to be armed and have CCW , there is no reason to fear them being armed since they do not allow their gun to make them crazy like Democrats do. Probable ensure that all the attendees stay polite. "An armed society is a polite society" Robert A Heinlein

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

Tell me, who would be safer, a convention full of armed Republicans or a convention full of armed Democrats?

That one is easy - armed Republicans. Because almost any Republican carrying at the convention would have a CCW and the requisite training. And, with the training usually comes learning why carrying a firearm in public requires a heightened sensitivity to the dangers of misusing firearms. This means that you don't point a gun at someone (or shoot someone) unless they are putting you or someone else in reasonable and imminent danger of death or great bodily injury. Violate this, and expect to spend time in prison. If you just point it at them, maybe not that many years, but if you do pull the trigger, then expect to spend a significant chunk of your life behind bars. When comparing the two parties, keep in mind the difference geographically between their respective strengths. Democrats tend to come from places where the only people who have guns are the criminals, the police, and the politicians' armed guards. Republicans tend to come from places where concealed carry is well accepted, and a lot of law abiding citizens either carry, or know people who do.

Michael The Magnificent म्हणाले...

We should require all Republican delegates who attend their convention to be armed.

And while we're in non-hypocrite, eat your own dog food mode, we should also require all Democratic delegates who attend their convention to equalize their wealth with their fellow delegates.

It's basically against the law already.

People are stupid,

Michael The Magnificent म्हणाले...

And there's another good idea!

We should mandate that everyone attending the Republican convention to have and show a valid government issued photo ID.

Likewise, we should mandate that no IDs of any sort may be required to attend the Democratic convention.

Since we wouldn't want to be hypocritical.

Not a bad idea for personal safety.

I seem to remember the Cleveland Cavs used to lead the NBA in stolen hubcaps from their arena parking lot.

Not a problem. Anyone will be permitted to self-identify as a delegate, and as such, be entitled to their share of the wealth, and be issued a ballot. An extra ballot each if self-identifying as non-white, non-straight, and/or not a US citizen. Subtract a ballot if your trip to the convention was not carbon-neutral. Subtract a ballot for each child you have. Subtract a ballot each if the school your children attend is not public, is not diverse, and is not unionized.

Because PRIVILEGE!

Since we wouldn't want to be hypocritical.

Theranter म्हणाले...

They should be quietly arranging to hold it in a venue other than Cleveland, and announce it mid-June. That'll thwart part of the jackassed protestors' plans. (And too bad for those R's that cannot attend.)

Heck, maybe by then Trump can build a venue in the middle of the Mojave with a landing pad and surrounded by a large moat to keep the whiny little assholes at bay. No need for CC then.

अनामित म्हणाले...

This is a bit of Alinsky, mangled quote, "Make them keep their own rules," or something. This should be given no credence by anyone but of course some people need clicks. Good job perfesser.

It would be a mistake for Americans to bow to the wishes of a hate mob. Besides, there are armed responders already on the premise. If the pro-choicers intend to commit a crime and hate crime, then they will be dealt with by law enforcement, including Secret Service. There is no need for Americans to become entangled in the left's antics.

n.n म्हणाले...

There is another problem. Trump's venues are known targets of hate mobs, which means that not only must law enforcement act to prevent disruption, intimidation, violence, and civil rights violations, but there is also probable cause that the hate mob will attempt to sabotage the event, including placing people's lives in jeopardy, to prove a point.

How many mass shootings have you heard about at gun shows, Amanda?

Now, how many mass shootings have you heard about in gun-free zones ... like schools?

But, go ahead and mock. Sane people don't want your type around, anyhow.

James Pawlak म्हणाले...

The bast majority of gun-related mass killings have been:
1. In "Gun Free Zones"; And,
2. Inflicted by Democrats.

Inside the venue it will be pretty undramatic.
Outside. Who knows.
You might want to warn your friends who might be attending in order to disrupt the events that a number of attendees will be packin'.
So your friends best keep their mitts to themselves.
AAAaaand. I guess we'll find out if words can incite violence.

Funny....year in, year out....gun dealers and gun owners by the hundreds attend events called "gun shows", where guns and ammo are bought and sold, and......there is no gun violence.

You don't have to make the joke...you ARE the joke.

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

I can never be sure, when out and about with a concealed weapon, whether I'm "toting" it or merely "carrying."

Isn't it strange how some words only find use in some specific contexts? With gun toting, or "spew" for racist or hateful speech, like that.

I know the OED's unlinkable, but I hope it's not unthinkable, to ask with confidence sink-able, for the history of "tote?"

Bob Loblaw म्हणाले...

With all those well trained gun toting conservatives, why worry?

I wouldn't be worried at all to be in a large group of Republicans who were packing.

I'd be terrified to be in a similar group of Democrats.

Bob Loblaw म्हणाले...

I think you have to have a tote to be toting. Otherwise, you're packing heat, carrying, going heeled, fortified, fitted, under arms, rigged out, tooled up, or accoutred.

Michael Fitzgerald म्हणाले...

Yes, this is crazy. Those guns might leap from their owners' holsters and start killing people.

Good Lord, some people are stupid. No wonder our legal system is so totally f**ked up.

Phunctor म्हणाले...

n.n. claims there is "probable cause" (to believe) that the hate mob will attempt...

As a justification for regulating the behavior of the hate mob's targets. Why yes, the prudent thing to do is to give in to threats. That way, nobody will have to defend themselves, because they've already got what they want.

Somehow, painting this counsel of appeasement with the reasoned majesty of the law via "probable cause" just.. pisses me off. And that's beyond reasonable doubt.

AlanKH म्हणाले...

I can imagine some MoveOn punk shooting into the floor just to see if he/she can start a gunfight that the press will blame on the Republicans.
