Ben Carson is going to endorse Donald Trump.

That's huge.

Most of his voters have already gone to Cruz.

This belittles Carson without much helping Trump.

They can always leave. It's not a hostage situation.

Cruz dirty tricks coming back against him. Snake handler gets bitten

I have written the remnant of the Carson campaign asking for a refund of my contributions. He is obviously not the man I thought he was.

"They can always leave. It's not a hostage situation."

There soon will be a law about that. It will greatly simplify life for political pundits.

Rob म्हणाले...

Carson understands Trump, who has the brain of a child.

rcocean म्हणाले...

That confirms it. Trump is Hitler

mccullough म्हणाले...

Carson is an originalist. Since Cruz isn't a natural born citizen as required under the Constitution, he is not eligible to be President.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Who's going to get the all important Jeb endorsement?

effinayright म्हणाले...

"I have written the remnant of the Carson campaign asking for a refund of my contributions. He is obviously not the man I thought he was."

I see...essentially you are arguing, "I was mistaken, so give me my $$ back". Did Carson ever tell you or the world that he would endorse someone acceptable to you?

You remind me of girls back in my past who told me, "I thought you weren't like the others."

David म्हणाले...

Is there a more pathetic national political figure than Ben Carson?

rcocean म्हणाले...

So far Trump has gotten:

Palin
Christie
Carson
Sessions

The man really is a unifier.

rcocean म्हणाले...

"Is there a more pathetic national political figure than Ben Carson?"

You mean outside of Mitt Romney?

rehajm म्हणाले...

Feel the Bern.

David म्हणाले...

I don't believe in poll tests, but if you have gone from Ben Carson to Donald Trump, then maybe the franchise isn't for you.

Diamondhead म्हणाले...

I knew quite a few Carson voters. They typically explained their support of him in terms that make me think they will not follow him to Trump. And in the end he wasn't getting many votes anyway. Not a game-changer.

rcocean म्हणाले...

I can't imagine who supported Ben Carson. Idiots? Shut-ins? People like Althouse who don't want to be thought racist? Nice people who wanted a nice guy for President?

I never got it.

Drago म्हणाले...

What's the big deal? According to the left, this is simply a case of one white guy endorsing another white guy.

In much the same way a "female impersonator" like Kay Baily Hutchison might edorse Caitlin Jenner.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Cruz still has the governor of Mississippi in his corner. Without that endorsement, Trump might have got more than 49% of the vote in Mississippi GOP primary.

Diamondhead म्हणाले...

The ones I knew were all Christian and not particularly political. Liked the idea of a non-politician and thought that he seemed like a decent sort of man, "unlike Trump."

mccullough म्हणाले...

Cruz cultists: Carly's endorsement was huge even though she debated on the kids stage half the time. But Carson's endorsement of Trump doesn't matter because he only got 10% of the vote.

It never hurts that people like you just a little. Ted Cruz never learned this lesson that most kids learn by the time they're 13. No one likes a smug, arrogant asshole

Fabi म्हणाले...

He's a brilliant and decent man -- sadly there isn't much call for those traits in national politics. I felt sorry for him while on stage at his final debate. I doubt that he could reconcile the foolishness.

He did have the best line of the season: "Will someone please attack me?"

Titus म्हणाले...

The only way Trump is going to lose the pube primary is if he performs and abortion on stage or marries a couple of fags.

Face it, he is the pube candidate for pres.

The pube base-talk radio and Fox-have endorsed him and as a result the idiots who listen to that shit will vote for Trump.

Deal with it old fat white men in grossie states with no Whole Foods or Barney's.

Diamondhead म्हणाले...

"No one likes a smug, arrogant asshole"

I assume you went to sleep last spring and just woke up. Trump is the frontrunner.

Diamondhead म्हणाले...

And Hillary's still on track

Charlie Currie म्हणाले...

I saw this coming the other day after listening to an interview on the radio.

Obviously, he is not well informed and not engaged in the process.

Michael P म्हणाले...

I guess the theory is that a big casino shaped like a pyramid could be used to store grains in case of Rapture?

I clearly had too high an opinion of Ben Carson.

eric म्हणाले...

My wife loves Ben Carson and this is really going to make deciding between Cruz and Trump hard for her.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Carson is sanity itself. And he joins a winner's movement , because picking a loser, even a Pure Christian Conservative loser, is still insane.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Well, if you watch any local TV stations in South Florida (Why am I still here? I planned to vote in the primary before leaving, but now that seems like a bitter joke.) you would know that all the the Republicans are corrupt scoundrels whom the other Republican candidates could *never* endorse because they are so *untrustworthy.*

Fuck 'em all. I am voting for Rubio, I changed my vote. You know why? He looks great in those black and white pictures Cruz keeps running. I plan to vote for whichever candidate gets the most negative ads run against them, and right now that looks like Rubio in a landslide. If you know the facts behind the ads, they are so fucking dishonest. I can't vote for Cruz. He's a liar who wants to win too badly to be trusted.

Phil 314 म्हणाले...

I had respect for Dr. Carson.

I still do for the neurosurgeon.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Trump is personable and funny. His erstwhile smugness and arrogance is part of his schtick. He has a big personality, which has its own drawbacks. But he's likeable. People don't watch 15 seasons of your show if you're not likeable.

Cruz talks for 30 seconds and people want to turn the channel. That's a problem for a political candidate. Cruz tries to spin it that people don't like him because he's the only honest man in Rome. Tom Coburn was a principled conservative. People liked him even though he always pushed against their ideas. And he was able to get an important change to end earmarks through persistence and persuasion. And it didn't hurt that his colleagues liked him. Cruz is snake handler. Always was

It will take Time to tell History that we did the Right Thing, and prevented Ben Carson -- the cozy new Hitler -- from attaining the Presidency.

Please do not invoke Godwin's Law to save Carson's Nazi Ass.

For those of you who helped prevent the First Black Nazi to be President: Thank You.

It had to be done.

I am Laslo.

@ mccullough, re your comment (3/10/16, 7:13 PM) that "No one likes a smug, arrogant asshole":

This is the most persuasive argument I've heard yet from you. Unlike the rest of what you write, it's credible because it has the ring of personal experience.

Sayyid म्हणाले...

I liked Carson until he decided to hang on for three debates, and I don't even remember how many states, too long. He spent the entire time being a Trump lackey whining about how inconceivable it was that someone would point out how pathetic it was to go home "for a change of clothes." Nevermind that the day after Cruz pointed that story out, Carson laid off half his staff and cut salaries of the rest of them -- so he clearly was about to drop out.

Carson made it personal. Not an admirable trait in a politician, and when it became clear to me he had done that, that's when I stopped even liking him.

I'd say he lost stature in my eyes for this, but he long ago lost it all.

If you add Dr. Carson's 3% to Trump's 26%, you get 29%!

Gahrie म्हणाले...

eh..

We'll see how much influence Dr. Carson still has over his former supporters...I think most of them would have already been Trump supporters instead if they were willing to support Trump at all.

Why does such a likable guy have 63% unfavorable rating in last week's Gallup survey? (Cruz was 50%; Mrs. Clinton 53%.)

Let's hope everyone can stay awake 'til the end. Carson's voice is like acoustic ambient.

Michael K म्हणाले...

"Is there a more pathetic national political figure than Ben Carson?"

I can think of dozens, including Rubio.

I had a feeling that Carson stayed in in case Trump imploded. The GOPe and its acolytes do not understand the Trump phenomenon. The evangelicals voted for Trump because they have been lied to for so long. The blacks are the next demographic who might be up for some sense. Carson will talk to black churches and ministers. Trump will get a larger % of black votes than anyone imagines.

Michael K म्हणाले...

"I thought brain surgeons were intelligent! Maybe not."

Almost a caricature of GOPe arrogance.

Carson is a smart guy and obviously a talented surgeon. But that's a completely different skill set than what is required of a politician.

Yes, I'm sure he is terrible at lying with a straight face.

J. Farmer म्हणाले...

A politician that actually told voters the truth would go nowhere. "There's really not a whole lot I can do for you" tends not to be a winning message.

Jim Doss म्हणाले...

This diminishes Carson's reputation greatly. He should keep his powder dry until one of the candidates secures the nomination. He may have a role to play a Republican Administration at some time in the future, but endorsing the one person in the race who insulted you publicly and crudely is not a sign of strength.
