Bald Eagles have been hunting on Lake Monona over what's left of open water. I saw five on Saturday. Three adults and two immature.

Things I did not know......

If you travel south on I-5 from the Canadian border, then the first Home Depot you find is in Bellingham, WA. Yesterday, I attempted to rent some tools at the Bellingham Home Depot. The door greeter said "We don't rent tools. We are too close to the Canadian border. The tools just vanish across the border." You have to drive another 30 miles to the south for tool rentals.

Milk and eggs are a lot cheaper in the States vs. Canada. The Bellingham Costco has posted signs reminding people that they can't cross the border with large quantities of milk and eggs.

My son was looking to buy a house. He found one in foreclosure, but someone had wired around the electric meter. It had been a marijuana grow house. The homeowner paid an above market price for the house, and grew pot in the house for 6 years. He then walked away from the mortgage. I guess after 6 years the homeowner had covered the costs.

Rush decided to come back today but forgot to bring material. Repetition is governed by station breaks.

He's still better than some of his guest hosts but not all.

I'm home today with a cold. Watching Woman in Gold, which is pretty good.

For any lawyers or law students watching the movie, you can find the Supreme Court case here.

In cinematic terms, the bad guys (i.e. pro-Austria side) are Kennedy, Rehnquist, and Thomas.

The guy they got to play Rehnquist looks nothing like him. O'Connor looks like Evil O'Connor. Haven't seen Scalia yet.

Hope the ice stays - there's a pond hockey tournament in a couple of weeks.

That ice looks awfully thin, are those people safe?

It might get below zero early next week. That'll make some ice. Long-term, it looks warm, but after this coming weekend, cold (noticeable) for a week or so.

I don't think they are. The official skating place is on the other side of the street: Wingra Lagoon. The lagoon is not open and has "thin ice" signs, and I'm pretty sure the lagoon is shallower. The lake is only open in the sense that it's never an official skating venue.

I saw ice fishermen out there too.

So if the ice is not safe, why do they go out on it? Adrenaline rush?

First ice is best for fishing. And likely drowning.

Beirut's pic is now in my profile-I normally prefer smooth but he is too fucking hot.

Any thoughts on the Jeffrey Epstein case, Althouse?

Has anyone ever seen or heard a "journalist" ask what exactly a "background check" consists of?

Thanks for the moderation. Sleep deprivation can push the publication date of bad poetry.

If teens can get alcohol, and EBT cards and food stamps can be exchanged for cash, let's see just how one president's pen can slow down the off-the-grid market in guns.

On the other hand, why not require gun safety classes for all gamers? It's too late to stop the rampage after the manifesto is written, and there may be too little time after it's published on social media. Kickback from a real gun larned this rube, and game consoles don't provide it.

Speaking of background checks, there's exciting news in the field of neuroscience: http://www.businessinsider.com/brain-immune-system-connection-lymphatic-vessel-2015-6.

Who's toxic now, Dr. Freud?
