... I believe there is a market for "Dennis the Menace" retold from the point of view of of Alice Mitchell.
I'm looking at "In the 1980s a newspaper mixed up the captions for Dennis the Menace and The Far Side, twice!" (via Instapundit at Facebook)...
... and I'm thinking: Yes, the mother of Dennis the Menace — beautiful, long-suffering — who is she? I don't even know her name. I had to look it up. Alice Mitchell. What bad thoughts roil under that placid visage?

But the Dennis the Menance movie was not like The Wizrd the Oz movie. Also no music.
I'd be more interested in a version from the perspective of Mr.Wilson. He could be an inventor who is kept from success by the boy next door. Or perhaps a secret agent who is often nearly found out.
I think The Far Side told from the cow's perspective is more entertaining.
Played by the beautiful Gloria Henry. I used to recognize her in old B westerns, usually playing the comely young daughter or niece of Gene Autry or some other hero.
Wasn't she Penny on Sky King, too? "Penny to Songbird. Come in Uncle Sky."
Alice Mitchell. What bad thoughts roil under that placid visage?
"After all these years why can't I be drawn with more stylish clothing? And why won't my husband ditch his silly bow ties and suspenders in favor of khaki slacks blue button-down shirts with and an open collar?"
But this is escapees from the memory hole material. The Mitchells relied on their White Privilege. And the husband/father and his son were actually portrayed as important members within the family. They need reeducation Camp.
Penny on SKY KING was Gloria Winters.
You can tell when Alice is thinking about Dennis' real father. She has that little smile on her face and she hardly hears the things Dennis says.
Sometimes she tells herself she won't start up with him again after he gets out of prison, but she knows she's kidding herself.
Has moderation been suspended? Or is Accountancy Career Challenge a paid advertiser? Or is Dennis Mitchell's father an accountant?
In The Prehistory of The Far Side Gary Larson said that error was a big improvement to Denis the Menace strip but only weirdly confusing with regards to his strip.
Reading this, my mind flashed a subconscious connection between Dennis the Menace and Donald Trump.
Donald Trump, the Dennis the Menace to the Stale Bureaucracy?
Perhaps some Dennis the Menace cartoons with captions from Trump speeches might be pleasing.
I am Laslo.
I cannot say the inner world of Alice Mitchell interests me much. I'd have to see a pilot strip first.
However, those mixed up captions prove Gary Larson's jokes are much funnier than Hank Ketcham pedestrian drollery (It was the 1950's, dontcha know.) This mayn't have been a defect in Ketcham's innate wit, however. Given a different context perhaps he could have explored the "far side" while Larson was still in the womb. As it was he was shackled by his scenario; there's something decidedly lead balloonish about comfortably middle class 7-year-olds.
Meanwhile, the ladies of Apartment 3-G are lost to the comics netherworld. Who will tell their story?!
I appreciate that you have The Comics Curmudgeon in your blogroll - would not have known about it otherwise. I occasionally click over that way - in fact today, he takes down a "Dennis the Menace" cartoon.
That being said, I would appreciate I Am Laslo being on your blogroll - That way, could hit all the "high notes" in one place - Althouse and then on to Comics Curmudgeon & Laslo, and then right back to Althouse. Also saves on the tedious process of backtracking the comments section to get a dose of Laslo.

Oh yes, she's a hellcat cartoon character. Not Madam Yes, of course. But I'd rank her over Daphne, for instance.
Actually she is way sexier than Madam Yes. Madam Yes is overrated. But her name is hilarious. You don't have to look up her name! I'll remember her name forever. Madam Yes. That's what the world needs. Hot women saying, "Yes means yes!"
Well..there is a book that retells the Beowulf story from the point of view of the monster, and another book that retells the Dr. jeckyl story from the point of view of one of his house maids...
Then there's Orson Scott Card who has rewritten most of the books (maybe all by now) in his Ender Wiggins series from the point of view of another character.
Alice Mitchell, along with cartoon characters Wilma Flintstone, Betty Rubble, and Jane & Judy Jetson, made my childhood hormonal stew several degrees hotter than was good for me. And we won't even talk about the live-action older women of everyone's dreams - Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery.
You never had to guess what Mamie Yokum was thinking, and yet modern feminists have been loathe to embrace this strong, independent woman.
