Time is clearly anti-American. Their runner-up was the caliph of Baghdad. You really have to wonder about any organization that would consider either of these America-haters.
Time's "Person of the Year" has never been about who they deem to have been the greatest or most favored person of the year, or who deserves to be singled out for praise. It is their choice of the person who, for good or bad, had the greatest impact on or visibility in the world or was otherwise uniquely significant. (And why would a pick of Merkel be "anti-American" in any event? She--Germany--is our ally and friend.)
Who would you have rather they picked to prove their bona fides as "America-lovers"? Donny Trump?
I wonder when he sends the thank you note to Colbert for sabotaging his own ratings.
The Merkel sketch is fairly good a likeness. I don't see the point of using a sketch when they could have sent an intern to take a photo on his or her phone, but perhaps it was too newfangled for their taste. I suppose if you are going to go bankrupt anyway, might as well stick to the old fashioned ways on general principles.

I thought Fallon had a very funny bit.

This isnt the Angela Merkel is person of the year post. That was a while back.
This is about a funny video and Jimmy Fallon...
What a horrible drawing of her. Good riff on that -- although I tuned out of the Tom CryBabyBrady Picture thing when it happened.
Yes, the bit was funny.

Robert Cook,
Actually, Trump has been in more headlines than Merkel. In fact, the other day there was scarcely a NYT Op-Ed title that didn't focus on him.
But I agree with you about Merkel. Whether her mass-(im)migration scheme succeeds or not, she's a major world figure.
Actually, I quite like that painting of Merkel. It's representational without looking like taxidermy. It has an energy to it.
I'm sure Merkel is happy to be awarded the same honor by Time as that other German leader.
> Time's "Person of the Year" has never been about who they deem to have been the greatest ...
I thought it was about the person whom Time's editors think will help sell the most magazines.

I agree! I like the Brady picture too!
Fallon with a brace on his wrist? Did he get 'approximately' drunk and fall again?
Approximately drunk is always the right term for being drunk, since you never seem to know the moment when you are 'exactly' drunk.
