Happy Thanksgiving, blog readers.

Are you reading blogs this morning, like it's a normal day? I sure am, but I love normal days. It's absurd to complain that a holiday is interrupting the flow of normal days, when there's always the option of honoring the holiday by according it equal treatment with all those other days, the non-needy just-another-day days.

A normal day, sure. But also a good day to say thanks. To you.

I disaprove of this cultural appropriation. You may only celebrate this day the way I believe is right

Thanksgiving is such an odd Holiday, calendar-wise.

Christmas? On the 25th.

New Year's Day? on the 1st.

Fourth of July? Not even a trick question.

Holidays that land on all the days of the week, eventually.

But Thanksgiving insists that it will always be on Thursday.

Not, say, Friday, which is sort of an unofficial mini-day=of-Celebration every week.

Not Monday, the day everyone professes to Hate.

Tuesdays get Elections.

Even Wednesday gets to be Hump Day.

No; Thursday. Possibly the most unassuming day of the week, and Thanksgiving picked it. And is sticking with it, calendar be damned.

If you are born on St. Patricks Day your birthday will always be on St. Patricks day, year in, year out.

But born on Thanksgiving? Well, Thanksgiving isn't your birthday next year, buddy. You're gonna have to wait it out a few years.

The only thing weirder is Leap Day. But I'll save that for, well, a Leap Day.

I am Laslo.

Traditionally Thanksgiving is a Religious celebration for families gathering to honor God for His blessings of getting to live in freedom and in abundance in a New World where everybody feasts instead of fasts.

It is also the only day of the year that we experience that strange sense of quietness that comes from a true Sabbath Rest day. Nobody works. We eat a common meal together and watch football from Lambeau Field.

I'm going to walk the dog and then clear the decks for TG dinner.
Not everyday stuff.
Special this year because it's just the two of us.

You have a good one, Ann and Meade and John and everyone else in your family.

I just went out in my 2012 Christmas pajamas and repaired the storage building door and the trampoline. My wife came out when I was working on the door and asked me what I was doing. "Ennis Del Mar," I said. "I'm going to bring him up here one of these days and we are going to lick this damn ranch into shape!"

Normal, and super lovely here in South Carolina. A fine Thanksgiving to all.

And thanks to Ann Althouse for continuing this blog.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Meade!

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for this blog. What a nice feeling this morning to know that when I wandered over here, you would have something interesting to say about one or more interesting events I wouldn't have otherwise known about.

Reading blogs on holidays is better than on normal days because on a holiday, I never think, "Maybe I should be cleaning out the attic or working instead of reading this blog". Holiday blog reading is the best.

Yep another normal day in the 317 household. We don't eat turkey and we don't have any family on this side of the Atlantic.

Though I have come to accept a beautiful tradition. My Chinese student whom I graduated (with a PhD -- I say that because I have graduated many MS students and somehow that is not significant to them or me) started sending me a thank you email on Thanksgiving day since 2006 and he has kept it up all these years. He sends me a beautiful note every year giving me his career update and other news. How cool is that!

Raining here in Austin. My wife isn't even awake yet. Just the two of us for Thanksgiving, which is very nice. We're having ham, green beans and some other sides, and then apple pie. Holidays are highly overrated, especially when family is involved.

We were going to go up north to visit family, but got sick and cancelled. Will just do stuff here with just a few Thanksgiving-type foods, which is fine with me.

My days are great now that I'm out of the newspaper industry. Why would I want to treat this day any different? And later, we'll have a great turkey meal and watch a movie. Life is good.

And my best wishes to y'all on this day as well.

As I sit here incapacitated by the overconsumption of carbohydrates, perusing blogs is pleasant. In a few minutes, a walk. Later tonight, another Thanksgiving dinner. One has to prepare for these things. I ran five miles this morning.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

And, of course, happy Thanksgiving to everyone involved in this, the greatest blog on the Internet.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Thanks, Freeman. And thanks everybody.

Barry Dauphin म्हणाले...

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for your posts.

I have been trying to use The Portal.

I think it worked because my UDI 6 axis broke after literally 3 minutes of air time.

I attribute this to admonishment with regards to untoward language.
