Dear in the headlights.

I look at the mugshots of Robert Lewis Dear — those eyes — and I think: mentally ill. A quote from a neighbor: "He was a very weird individual. It's hard to explain, but he had a weird look in his eye most of the time."

Another neighbor: "He complained about everything. He said he worked with the government, and everybody was out to get him, and he knew the secrets of the U.S.A. He said, 'Nobody touch me, because I've got enough information to put the whole U.S. of A in danger.' It was very crazy."

He'd been arrested 9 times, including twice for "personal intrusion" and twice for animal cruelty.

He had 2 homes, "a white trailer 'with a forest-green four-wheeler by the front door and a modest black cross painted on one end'" — photo here — and something in Black Mountain, N.C., that the neighbors said looked like a "moonshine shack" and the Washington Post called a "little yellow wooden hut, with overgrown weeds and no indoor plumbing, banged together" — photo here. In happier circumstances, the media might call a place like this a "tiny house."

Did those undercover Planned Parenthood videos inspire him, push him over the edge? The NYT quotes a law "senior law enforcement official," who's anonymous, because he shouldn't be speaking to the press. He says Dear "said a lot of things" including "no more baby parts." The NYT characterizes Dear's interview with the police as "rambling" and says it was "difficult for the authorities to pinpoint a specific motivation."

Interesting how the left is so eager to blame the actions of the West for Islamic terrorism, but when baby organ trafficking is just dismissively handwaved away, why, nobody could ever imagine some angry unhinged person boiling over over that!

When it's Jihadis killing cartoonists, the left can see the other side's point of view, of course. When it's anger over the callous disregard for human life and dignity, not so much.

Fascinating.

He must have had access to the internet. Otherwise, no "murdered baby's body parts" videos could have been seen by him since they were not allowed on TV.

This guy was a paranoid mental case.

What the left is trying to do is, right or wrong, create a narrative that this Dear came to town to shoot up a Planned Parenthood clinic. Now, that may turn out to be true, but we honestly don't know that yet. No police official has spoken on the record as of this posting, nor has the transcript of Dear's interrogation been released. But that hasn't done anything to stop the flood of FB posters & the press from cycling the narrative for all it's worth.

This story may turn into another Anders Brevik narrative, where the real reason for Brevik's mass murder has been flushed down the memory hole, & replaced with a more politically convenient narrative. The official narrative is that Brevik was a racist, & murdered for that reason. But, when you look into ample evidence that Brevik left behind, he may not have been fond of immigrants, but who he really hated was social democrats & what they had done to Norwegian culture. Which does much to explain why a man who supposedly hated immigrants killed mostly ethnic Norwegians. Matter of fact, the only immigrants he killed were the ones at the Social Democrat summer camp that he targeted, and they were, like all the other poor souls trapped on that island, targets of opportunity.

That could explain things. Deer are pretty stand-offish and shy about criticizing.

jr565 म्हणाले...

He snapped because of lefty abortion policies. So, based on lefty logic people like him need to be appeared. so stop doing abortions.
Funny, how that logic is proven to be bankrupt when applied to a sacred cow of the left. But really, its the same logic as saying "Foreign policy caused the crazy jiahidst to hate us. WE need to stop doing things that provoke them".
Well, stop doing abortions and cutting up babies and giving the parts away. It might provoke crazy people who live in cabins in the woods to shoot up clinics.

And of course the left will say its discussing the abortions that will cause the crazy person to shoot up the abortion clinic. No, its the abortions themselves. So, if you don't want crazies to shoot up clinics, then stop doing that which will incite them to violence.

OR, maybe you were full of shit to make said arguments in the first place, lefties.

How much more marginalized and oppressed can a human get, than being told they have no right to life because it would be a burden on someone who merely happened to be born before them?

Talk about oppression. Why do progs hate poor black babies so much? Just because they're unfortunate enough to be born poor, they should have their right to life unilaterally forfeit? Unpersoned? As if they never existed, that no wrong was committed?

Abortion is 'pro-choice' in a similar fashion to how armed robbery is 'pro-choice' for the robber. The 'right to a health procedure' requires the abolition of rights for the victim.

Georgie,
Rememberr what John Kerry himself said about the difference between the attack on france and the attack on Charlie Hebdo?
"“In the last days, obviously, that has been particularly put to the test. There’s something different about what happened from Charlie Hebdo, and I think everybody would feel that. There was a sort of particularized focus and perhaps even a legitimacy in terms of — not a legitimacy, but a rationale that you could attach yourself to somehow and say, okay, they’re really angry because of this and that. This Friday was absolutely indiscriminate. It wasn’t to aggrieve one particular sense of wrong. It was to terrorize people. It was to attack everything that we do stand for. That’s not an exaggeration.”

The left has been playing this card since the war on terror started. They attack us because of our policies. We are to blame for their terrorism because of something WE did. There is no legitimacy maybe, but we at least understand where they are coming from, as per the lefty.

Well, why would you not hold that same argument when it came to abortion? Its our policies that are causing people who would target abortion clinics to kill people. They're really angry because of this or that. Therefore, if you support the policy that would cause a crazy person to target PP you are complicit in his violence. because he wouldn't have attacked them if YOU hadn't supported abortion policies.
You, in effect, wound him up.

I don't agree with this argument. I'm merely stating that this is the lefts argument.
It was also the argument to indict the NRA and repubs every time there is a shooting. And I'm sure the left will move on to it, when its determined that this guy was a crack pot who may not have even been targeting PP for any coherent reason. Then it will be about guns and how the NRA is complicit.

Please crawl back under your rock. I'm awfully sick of lefties getting angry when their own logic is used against them and they find it offense. Gee, do you think so?

Sure his RV and cabin make him look a little out of the mainstream. But since when is that a disqualifier? Did he get a sweet land deal from a known felon to buy part of his land under market value?

Even if he was eating those doves he hunted it's not like he was eating dog.

It sounds like Dear was trying to meet up with the local Choom Gang for recreational drug use. That does not seem to be a disqualifier.

Dear was somewhat religious. But did he sit in Rev Wright's pews for 20 years? He doesn't sound quite that religious.

I do notice that Dear didn't seem to seal all his personal records, and the media is thus able to vet him… Some loners are known to seal all their records to hide their background and be peevish with co-workers and unable to form alliances to get anything done. Sound familiar?

Even driving 20 miles to nearby Fairplay to use the library computers, he would have had limited access to the internet. Even if he had electricity, there would have to be a satellite dish because the mountains block the over-air broadcast of TV. “Today, Presidential candidate Ted Cruz secured the endorsement of leading pro-life activist Troy Newman – a driving force in the recent effort to expose Planned Parenthood’s alleged sale of baby parts in a series of undercover videos,” the statement read. “Newman is the President of Operation Rescue, one of the most prominent pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation.
