Waking up to the first snow of the season.

Pre-dawn view.

UPDATE AT 7:09: A coyote just trotted through the backyard. Almost got a pic.

I've shoveled, and now am grading. 40 hours ago I was looking at palm trees. The miracle of modern transportation systems.

The first snow of the season is always my favorite snow.

Same view. Pretty. But.

The plant seems to be bristling with horror at the weather just outside!

It snowed here in San Francisco once in 1976. As kids, we were euphoric. Don't believe it's happened since. Have to go to Lake Tahoe for a good snow.

I asked Siri how much snow we have received and she responded:

"Yes Michael, it does appear to be snowing."
"Thanks, Siri."
"Don't mention it."

Siri does not appear to get sarcasm.

I should have asked MadisonMan.

Thank you for the photo. It reminds why despite it all I love living in South Florida.

Althouse, would you frontpage this article, please?

I have been saying this all along just using my observational powers and finally it is in print from a French Muslim.

Poll: "The government should be able to prevent people publicly making statements that are offensive to minority groups."

Age group, % agree
18-34; 40%
35-50; 27%
51-69; 24%
70-87; 12%

Other stuff:
White: 23%
Not-white: 38%
Dems: 35%
Reps: 18%

"Furthermore, Americans who have a high school degree or less are more likely than those with at least a college degree to say that speech offensive to minority groups should be able to be restricted (a 9-percentage-point difference)."

There are few things as beautiful to the senses as venturing outside on foot into a newly fallen snow, especially in a quiet wooded area.

But I hold with cubanbob on this. It's an overcast 82 here. Occasional light showers. I'll take it.

I couldn't live in a place that didn't have snow (he says as he reluctantly prepares to go out and shovel; shoveled a little last night to get the car up the driveway and it was heavy).

@fritz I was going to ask the same question! I live about 40 miles west of Chez Althouse and since seeing an explosion of articles recently about coywolves, I've been wondering if the ever-growing packs around here are coyotes or coywolves.

Bay Area guy--I totally remmber that snow! School closed, so six of us hopped in my VW Bug (shag carpet, tiny steering wheel, wide tires and mag wheels) no seat belts, and drove Skyline Blvd to Woodside to get a better view. Pretty dumb in retrospect, never having driven in snow. Great memory though!

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Yep, just as I feared. Shoveling four inches of water is hard. I've got a ticket for the football game today but I'm wore out. Besides, I've also got a hockey tx for tonight. Going to both is too much. Scheduling the football game for 2:30 (rather than 11:00) when there's also a home hockey game is bullshit.

A white global warming is pretty.
