Gotta love the "Donald." He enters the race for POTUS to get his point across about the failures of Obama and his cohorts that have made our economic recovery stagger around like Dr. Frankenstein's monster. Surprise! Surprise! he touches a nerve among the electorate that cross party lines that people are tired of Obama's fake promises (lies) supported by styrofoam promises. I doubt if he ever dreamed he would last this long but has accepted the challenge to reap the whirlwind so to speak. Undoubtedly, he is making money in this economic climate, but like the rest of us, can only imagine how much better we would all be doing without another tax and spend democrat making promises impossible to keep. He won't quit now but will ride the opposition hard and put them away wet, as the saying goes. For him, it will be a welcome change from running his mult-billion dollar company to actually running the economy that is making his/our lives difficult. Lack of leadership is a vacuum that will be filled, either by a lying Hillary who has her millions and could care less about the rest of us, or a capitalist who knows what this country is capable of. If that happens, the libs/progs will go to ground watching the economy rebound in four or more years. Then, ever the electorate with a short memory, will fall for the phony promises from the tax and spend crowd who will promise the world, get reelected and spend all the money made by conservatives to pursue their elusive utopian dreams starting the cycle again. That is based on this country not turning into Greece with a debt that cannot be repaid in a millennial's lifetime of debt interest.

It is possible to imagine Trump's act growing stale, but so far he is getting smoother and more likable. His easy dismissal of his rivals must drive them crazy.

AReasonableMan: "It is possible to imagine Trump's act growing stale, but so far he is getting smoother and more likable."

Trump is helped immensely by the sheer volume and pace of "new" events/news that allow him to bring his particular gifts to bear on instances where the leaders of both parties are being transparently dishonest.

Again, Trump is a 100% creation of the existing parties.

ARM: "His easy dismissal of his rivals must drive them crazy."

What drives them even crazier is the fact, and it is a fact, that the criticism of Trump by his rivals doesn't even register on the public at large, the republican base in particular, and that major media is not effective at amplifying any of those criticisms.

I say this as an observer of this process and not yet in any "camp", and I am a long time partisan and someone who has spent a little time in the political process at the state level.

His points about the VA are true, but I think everyone is being short-sighted on this. The GOP hates National Health Care for the citizens, but loves National Health Care for the Veterans.

Let's switch it off. Maybe National Health Care is a good thing to blow money on. We blow it on nuclear submarines that do nothing for us (well, until the end), so what's the big deal about a trillion here and there for Health.

Here's the deal, shut down the VA and put all the Veterans on Obama care. As a retired veteran I pay $600 a year for Insurance, and I mostly see civilian doctors because the military doctors appointments are full with the troops.

Have every Veteran who doesn't have health care, pay $600 a year and give them the same benefit.

If they don't have $600 and are homeless, then write it off. If they are a Veteran, and they have a combat injury, maybe even forgo the insurance payment. Their missing arms and legs are payment in full.

it's only fair! Even if they don't have a combat injury, help them if they need it. Remember, they stepped-up, everyone else ran to Canada or their Union job.

We need to take the GOP assholes to the woodshed and beat their fucking brains in.

You can't say you are against National Health Care, and then have no alternative plan.

If you are against it, and no plan, they should take you to the main square and behead your fucking ass.

Drago म्हणाले...

I would be interested if ARM or Cook or anyone else on the left would offer an observation on what specific impact the fact that Trump is a lifelong and proud New Yorker has on the liberals/leftist when they attempt to criticize him?

Life long New Yorker, so he can't be labeled a kook from the sticks non-sophisticate.

Graduate degree from Wharton, so he can't be labeled an "idiot".

Has supported politicians and groups from the entire spectrum, so being labeled "evil" becomes problematic.

Hater of women? Nope.
Hater of minorities? Even tougher.

So what is the "word on the lefty street" regarding Trump?

All I have are some anecdotal examples from personal acquaintances and those anecdotes are surprisingly positive re: Mssr Trump.

They would say they are 'acting in our better interests', and, sometimes it might even be true, but it doesn't seem to be our best interests that are getting acted upon most of the time.

When the leaders of both parties can drive likes of ARM and myself "together", even if only temporarily and/or rhetorically (as opposed to policy), you know we have reached some sort of political inflection point.

I don't know what sort of inflection point, but we are at one.

Perhaps it's the fact that the gov't has stopped publishing the running total of our ever increasing national debt (already at 100%+ of annual GDP), the illegal immigration BS which has aligned the Chamber of Commerce with the radical left and La Raza, etc.

And the fact you are oblivious to the fact all POTUS seekers are what you describe makes your comments worthless, save criticism opportunities. Compare what you think about Trump to anyone else confirmed running. You might as well say anyone red-blooded (with oxygen) is better than Trump because you feel it so.

Any young brain understands politicians covet POTUS to the extent that is all their lives revolve around, all their family's lives revolve around, all their friend's lives revolve around to an extent, and the single driving force of anyone else who can name the person as beneficial to them who might become the most powerful person in history.

I wouldn't bet on that. The status quo remains in place for a reason. While it is entertaining to read the WSJ stamping it's little footsies over the rise of Trump, there is a lot more to their arsenal than some ill-considered editorials. Trump will be defeated. I would guess the RNC establishment would chose to lose the presidential election because of a 3rd party run rather than cede real power to Trump.

I met a retired doctor who was working for the Park Service. He drove his RV to different parks each year, and they paid him about $15 a day for meals.

He was about 60 years old, and I was surprised he retired so young.

He said he was an Emergency room doctor for 24 years, and that was enough for him. He said he made a lot of money because he didn't have to have malpractice insurance, as the County exempted all emergency room doctors. He said it had to be that way, because more people die than lived, as he worked in Miami, which is a pretty violent place with all those crazy Cubans.

He noticed I was riding my scooter without a helmet, and asked if I had a tag around my neck. What?? A tag, you know, that says "do not resuscitate". I just laughed.

Hell doctor, I expect to be dead an hour before the damned doctor even see's me!

Have you seen an emergency room lately? They are full of Mexicans and no one speaks English. He just changed the subject and said he and his girlfriend were going on a hike, and I agreed to go along.

Anyway, with National Health Care, maybe we can get people out of the Emergency rooms for their primary health care.

Including terribly disabled vets (and citizens) being restroom attendants, or keeping a little plot of storefront clean.

I'm waiting for him to invite his "slate" to come stand with him on the dais. TR would have done this even before the convention (of course then it was a smoke filled room, now we just pretend it's not). All of his department heads that need senate approval. His supreme court nominees. Anyone running for office supporting his principles, or if not principles "him" (as in "I'll vote for whatever he decides best"). Existing members of congress, not just candidates. Perhaps even document his spending (budget) for the next four years. Including the "pork" and why.

None, other than that they're very familiar with how deranged he is.

Life long New Yorker, so he can't be labeled a kook from the sticks non-sophisticate.... and I am a long time partisan...

Thanks for revealing the source of your sheltered ignorance. New Yorkers see kooks walking the sidewalks every day. They also see Wall Street traders every day, so they feel no need to worship them or think that every one with money is morally superior to everyone else, the way your "camp" does. And they also get to see some of the best theatrical productions in the world, so they're practiced in knowing an act when they see one. Even if Trump's Act of Overwhelming Self-Love is for him the only reality he knows.

Thank you for your admissions. They were more revealing than you know. Just as Trump reveals more about himself every day than you will ever realize.

On another note, it would be interesting to know what criteria Professor Fish-Eye Lens used to "judge" these performances.

Augustus famously said on his death bed, "Have I played my part well?" But Trump is no Augustus. As much as his followers would crown him a Caesar.

Trump is more Mark Antony, whom Cicero lambasted as a bankrupt before even coming of age. Trump himself is a quadruple-bankrupt. Successful business leaders hate him. It's only people who idolize businessmen that love him.

re: tag around the neck of the bike rider -without- a helmet. Doesn't matter They die most of the time.

Turns out we want fewer helmets. A helmet means those who have a serious accident find a helmet is little more than a placebo - so they become million, and at times billion dollar burdens on society - but only if it's society that is paying the medical bills. Which is another reason to get the big "WE" out of the medical equation Because it would put the accountability with those that are actually responsible.

Which reminds me, I reviewed some companies' (who self-insure) health care costs. Turns out in the 18 to 32 year old (no children) cohort, they see a doctor only six times, and 5.5 of those visits are for their birth control pills (means no males, and would be no females save for the guild needing some hook to drive them into their subscription business, which they'd love to be able to do to the males as well.). They are truly the young invincibles.

Save for the few that are wearing helmets when they get hit by a car - which justifies maybe $300 a year catastrophic policy back-stop. Of course, perhaps as long as society is paying the medical bills, it'd be cheaper just to outlaw bicycles, or tax them like cigarettes.

Aka what we do to ourselves when we forget who are the really smartest people in the room. Not the elite, but the masses, voting with their wallet, which presumes those smarter than the masses don't put their thumbs on the scale of the market. “But we had good intentions, really we did." Even as we discover that what saves lives is saturated fat, prime, and not lean meat And all because the grain farmers were more politically astute than the meat farmers back in the 50s. Oh, but the planet is more important than the peasant's quality of life (or lives for that matter), right? So it'll work out ok after all.

But that's ok. Republicans have alienated so many Americans that only someone who loves negative attention will do as their leader. Even if he disagrees with nearly everything they claim to stand for.

Just establishing a baseline.

That might take you a while. It seems to be something you suck at.

Here's the deal, shut down the VA and put all the Veterans on Obama care. As a retired veteran I pay $600 a year for Insurance, and I mostly see civilian doctors because the military doctors appointments are full with the troops.

I too have a retired dr. tale.
Just before my GP retired we discussed what healthcare for people who couldn't afford healthcare would look like.
His view was to have those people use the VA system. Veterans having first choice of course.
But what about being overwhelmed by the lack of drs?
As a requirement of having taken out federal loans or grants the newly minted drs. would have to work at a VA hospital for a period of time.
This was of course, before the glaring political inefficiencies of the VA were revealed.

Universal healthcare is an inefficient use of resources. It can become more efficient if the state is allowed to determine if someone has the right to commit suicide.

I, for one, remember a time when the office of the presidency was too respectable for the candidates to appear on shows like Fallon's or Colbert's.

Thanks, Bill!

R&B's has broken out the trowel and is laying it on thick again today.

If you happen to be reading this thread and you are wondering what is driving R&B's spittle-flecked ranting comprised of projection, purposeful mischaracterization, strawman arguments etc., it's really quite simple.

He doesn't understand basic statistics and, in attempting to be "clever" on a previous thread, exposed that ignorance.

Even worse, from his perspective, is that some of us happened to notice that.

Hence the cranking up of the R&B verbal-vomit-fog-machine in order to build a rhetorical wall that is sufficiently tall that you won't notice that there isn't much behind it.

Just imagine how much personal progress R&B might have made if he had just taken the time to familiarize himself with some stats basics instead of building his little ego protecting wall.

But then, if he was the sort to do that, he would not have been in this situation at all.

I wonder if R&B's parents regret paying whatever sums they happened to cough up for an education that lacked even rudimentary mathematical skills for their little guy.

It's obvious why R&B never found an academic home in the natural sciences. It's simply too difficult to BS your way through a program in that arena.

In other words, there is no place to hide. And it doesn't make any difference how many words/accusations/moronic observations he might offer up.

Still, we can all expect to have opportunities to shift gears in our professional lives more than once and you never know where you will end up if you are open to real growth.

So yes, even in R&B's case, I am an optimist.
