According to the motorcycle club’s legend, founder Donald Chambers was bored with other bike clubs. “Chambers started the Bandidos in March 1966, when he was 36 years old and working on the ship docks in Houston,” Skip Hollandsworth wrote in a 2007 profile of the gang. “He told his friends that he was naming his club the Bandidos, in honor of the Mexican bandits who refused to live by anyone’s rules but their own...
“Don wasn’t looking for people who fit into what he called ‘polite society,'” one of the group’s first members told Hollandsworth. “He wanted the badass bikers who cared about nothing except riding full time on their Harley-Davidsons. He wanted bikers who lived only for the open road. No rules, no bullshit, just the open road.”...
“These guys are organized crime but they are also domestic terrorists,” [said undercover cop Steve Cook]. “These guys are heavily involved in methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, motorcycle theft. Those are all primary businesses for them. The thing is, these guys want to put on this appearance, ‘Oh we’re just motorcycle enthusiasts and we just like to ride bikes.’ The evidence is quite to the contrary.”

"The shootout is the latest and perhaps goriest chapter in a long history of violence involving motorcycle gangs in America...."
"The Bandidos began almost 20 years after the Hell’s Angels, but the two gangs soon became bitter rivals."

And we are surprised by all of this exactly why?
We're surprised?
Biker gang members remind me of Middle Eastern leaders - their retirement plans never get tapped.
I didn't know real biker gangs still existed. In LA, they are all orthodontists and lawyers with expensive bikes and kit.
Tax free money is the best money say the Banditos. They are smarter than we give them credit for being. And there are no female leaders not under a male boss.
Banditos = The Clinton Foundation sans motorcycles.
In LA, they are all orthodontists and lawyers with expensive bikes and kit.
I wouldn't count on that analysis. It betrays quite an ignorance of the history and current activity of the gangs that run the drug trade in SoCal specifically and the Southwest in general.
@Mike. I believe the comment was laced with a heavy dose of sarcasm.
Guns everywhere, and the drug war, making us safer day after day.
It's a shame Hunter S. Thompson is dead. His coverage of this event would have made a hell of a Rolling Stone article.
Perhaps Ralph Steadman can be talked into doing some artwork. Though to be honest, a lot of Steadman's work tends to look like the result of a biker gang / police shootout / massacre.
If it were the Crips and Bloods Obama would be sending in Federal troops.

If I had a son he would look like ...
They are not domestic terrorists. They are certainly organized crime gangs.
And they all wear, apparently without being aware of the irony, the standard garb of the non-conformist.
Look at the benefit: Like shooting thugs (eg Trayvon Martin, Tony Robinson, Michael Brown, various Islamists) these shooting: Reduced the threat to pubic safety; And, improved the human genetic pool.
The police task force rapidly intervened before the two biker gangs annihilated each other.
"It's not a gang, it's a club."
They are the epitome of terrorists and like ISIL, they love every minute of it.
Any respect given to a biker gang is a Stockholm Syndrome in action.

To be Fair, Hell's Angels does not operate here in Texas (any that try to start an HA chapter tend to wind up dead).
The fight was probably between our ruling Club, the Bandidos MC, and another club called the 'Cossacks'.
There is a huge body of law practiced by patch wearing motorcycle clubs, with their own laws, licensing, and dispute resolution systems.
I noticed in the pictures that the Cossacks had the word 'Texas' on their lower vest rockers.
I speculate that the Banditos feel that only they can claim the whole state.
This Waco event may be their form a court of appeals.
"The police task force rapidly intervened before the two biker gangs annihilated each other."
Too bad.
One day a Genghis will arise, who will unite these nomadic tribes, and lead them in a campaign of pillage and conquest against the effete residents of Manhattan (see previous articles).
I think you mean: Banditos = The Clinton Foundation AVEC motorcycles.
In NY, apparently the cops are now part of the "clubs" - but those are more a-holes acting out on bikes, rather than sophisticated organized crime networks.

I'd hate to be the poor Correctional Officers manning the prison today.
Aren't motorcycles just grand?
Gee I wonder why scarce usage of the word "thug" in the reporting/ commentary on this?
Oh wait. No I don't.
harrogate,
I also didn't see much "gentle giants turning their lives around" either. But yes, they're thugs.
"The Bandidos did not immediately return a request for comment for this article."
What did the WaPO do, leave a message with the Bandido's receptionist? What's the point of joining an outlaw gang, if you're going to have to trade calls with some nerdy WAPO journalist?
The Bandidos have their own website, Robother. A receptionist is not out of the question.
