The all-male feminist support group.

"I just wish there was a way that we could be validated for being such great feminists."

Now I remember why I don't watch Portlandia.

That's it. We do need more bald, flat chested goddesses to worship...right guys?

Yes, Doctor Althouse sounds good, but still that title sounds so pre-feminist. Doctors can have visible hair color and breasts.

Somebody call Doctor Paglia.

They're in it to bang chicks.

Curious George, Portlandia is a wonderful show.

It's not condoning or spouting this stuff. It's a quasi-skit comedy that relentlessly pokes holes in as many liberal affectations at it can scrounge up. Perhaps you knew this, but if so, I don't understand why you would not love the satirical nature of the comedy.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

We love the show!

Jaq म्हणाले...

Best show on TV. Sometimes, like the Larry David show Curb Your Enthusiasm, it can get a little excruciating. It doesn't hurt that Carrie is totally hot in almost every get up and persona they put her in, either.

bleh म्हणाले...

Great show.

Meade म्हणाले...

The greatest satires contain conflicting elements of hostility and affection.

"The greatest satires contain conflicting elements of hostility and affection"

Blazing Saddles, Galaxy Quest, The Princess Bride, a great parody needs to be based on a foundation of love for the form.

Roughcoat म्हणाले...

Hilarious show. The bits with the feminist book store owners make me laugh so hard I can't breathe. Especially memorable is the skit about dining at the politically correct restaurant where they order a free-range chicken for their entre. The dish is served with a printed biography of the chicken, whose name is/was "Colin."

If you like "Portlandia" you might want to check out "Children's Hospital." It is seriously (hilariously) demented.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

There's so much automation is airplanes these days that even women can fly them.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I myself was turned in for causing a hostile work environment even before hostile work environments were invented.

It was after feminism, though.

It was some remark about kettle logic at the lunch table.

Who knew women were so sensitive?

Just like going to an anti-war demo, the real agenda is picking up chicks.

In this case, there's a bit of a disconnect. meet chicks in a feminist group, have them reject you as too beta

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

FWIW Fred Armistan was the best Obama on SNL too. He's extremely talented and he and Carrie are adept at elucidating the follies of Portlandians.

Dan Hossley म्हणाले...

More cow bell.

Men who self identify as FEMINISTS have to be among the most simpering examples of men in the world. They might as well chop off their balls and start
Taking estrogen. What's below beta male?
They think feminists are going to have sex with such limp wristed caricatures?

Talladega Nights.

I [sincerely] support a woman's right to practice sacrificial rites.

aside: How about some reciprocal change, baby? Let's meet at Planned Parenthood.

Reminds me of an old cartoon of with an older guy who took a class in "Womens Studies" to meet girls.

Because being exposed to the idiocy is tiring and boring. Pass.

No, but they will cash their paychecks while making them sleep in the guest room.

Totally henpecked?

I have lots of family and friends in Oregon. Some of them love the show. Others hate it and can't figure out what's funny about it.

That's the best part of the show, for me.

This guy would fit right in with these Portlandians, if he is not already one:

M Jordan म्हणाले...

This was a ripoff from an old SNL bit called "Women's Problems," a TV show hosted by Dan Akroyd where a bunch of guys sat around discussing women's "problems." They spent some time declaring what they liked best about women -- mainly a choice between big butts or big boobs. It end with Akroyd signing off, "Our hope is that some day there will be no need for a show like this."

It was hilarious as was this, but in an inverted kind of way.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Lorne Michaels is a producer, there is a lot of SNL people doing their best work, just like The Simpsons people did their best work on Futurama.

Anthony म्हणाले...

I'd put the first Austin Powers movie as superb homage and satire at the same time.

CatherineM म्हणाले...

Roughcoat - that was a fave episode of mine too. The waitress held their table so they could see Colin the chicken's home to gauge the healthiness of the chickens environment before committing to eating Colin.

Jaq म्हणाले...

At the end of the episode where the animal rights activists "freed" the animals from a taxidermy shop, an episode which featured a lot of cool taxidermy, there was the disclaimer: "No animals were harmed in the making of this episode: They were all dead!"

Unknown म्हणाले...

I've seen only a few episodes of Portlandia, and enjoyed it because I get it. Brilliant send-up of liberal logic and hypocrisy IMO.

Does any woman actually RESPECT a man like these? Do they actually think "That dude talking about oppression of women is so HAWT!!!?

I cannot fathom it. Nobody likes or respects a doormat.
