The incursion of national media doesn’t negate institutional knowledge local outlets have spent decades building, but it is forcing them to make clever use of minimal resources, as each makes its bid to be a national leader in Scott Walker coverage while still keeping up with the state’s everyday political news....
There have only been three serious presidential candidates from Wisconsin since 1924, so even veteran reporters in the state are on new ground....

"The state capitol reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has tracked Wisconsin political drama locally for a decade."
"But with Governor Scott Walker instituting sweeping policies and then navigating a presumed presidential campaign, [Jason] Stein has found that he is no longer just elbowing in-state competitors for scoops." A piece in the Columbia Journalism Review.

I see the Walker balloon already is leaking air. Behind Cruz 13-12, and Jeb is up to 20 percent, and gaining.
"“It’s as if [she] were always hunting men.”
Or vice versa?

Here's how Real Clear Politics is depicting the poll trends.
Not really seeing your point.
I think Walker's strength is that he is perceived as a social conservative — Eagle Scout, son of a Baptist preacher, apparently genuine religiousness — but does not use the social issues — as noted in yesterday's post about the Dems raising money off the RFRA stuff. He can stay out of the trouble of saying the kind of stupid things that bother social liberals (like me) while still signaling to social conservatives that he's one of them. He sticks to the issues that he says are the proper role of govt. That's a great formula, in my opinion, and he's good at sticking to his message. So I don't see where the "air" is going to leak.
"Minimal resources" because no one reads the crappy papers any more. Or their lame we sites.
Althouse to bbkingfish: "Not really seeing your point."
bbkingfish's point is that bbkingfish hates Walker and is looking for the next kitchen sink to throw at him, regardless of whether the kitchen sink is a rational or valid complaint or observation related to Walker or not.
Meanwhile, obama's newest "obambi, I need you to be flexible for me baby" partner Iran continues it's little escapades across the ME.
Not being a real student of Wisconsin politics, I'm unable to identify the three previous Badgers who were serious presidential contenders. Robert LaFolette in 1924, but who else?
Feingold tried.
Garage should volunteer. I'm sure The Nation would appreciate him.
Another schock like 9/11 will upset everybody's applecart, and it does not even have to happen here.
I think many of the polls distort their results in the direction they prefer, right up until just before the election. They tighten up then to preserve their reputation.
That John Doe indictment will happen any time thanks to tireless efforts of local Wisconsin journalists!
Thanks Milwaukee Journal Sentinel! You will destroy Walker yet!
Sure Jeb is the more popular choice with the establishment types. He's "safer" than that union buster with a John Doe indictment hanging over his head.
Another thing is Jeb has been running since November and Scott Walker has only been out there "exploring" for 1-2 months and is only 0.6% behind on RCP average. Jeb better avoid the whiplash of seeing Walker zoom past!
Here is my point (from RCP)..
In late Feb and early March, Walker polled at 25, 18, and 18 percent respectively in three different polls.
Then, in polling done roughly a month later, Walker is polling at 13 percent, showing a loss of perhaps as much as half of his support.
Thus, air seems to be leaking from the Walker balloon.
