In one eye-popping 1992 home video included in the film, Cobain and Ms. Love are seen blissfully living in druggie squalor in Los Angeles. Standing in a towel in the bathroom with shaving cream on his face, Cobain teases Ms. Love about her tabloid image as a man-eating monster. “You and Roseanne,” he says playfully, referring to Roseanne Barr. “You’re tied for the most-hated women in America.” She pretend-pouts....Major theme: humiliation. Minor theme: fear of fat.
In [one] lengthy recording, Cobain talks about trying to lose his virginity in high school to a “very fat” girl who attended special education classes. When his peers found out, Cobain felt so humiliated that he panicked. “I couldn’t stand the ridicule,” he says on the tape. “So I got high and drunk, and I walked down to the train tracks,” where he lay down, hoping to be killed.
The movie is "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," and the moviemaker is Brett Morgen, who made "The Kid Stays in the Picture" (which is excellent).

What about "fear of virginity"? That's probably just dudes so no need to be concerned.
I think the special education classes is a bigger cause for humiliation. Use your Madonna Sexual Assault Logic on that consent.
Steve, Cobain had special needs too.
Lawrence Sterne wrote in the 18th Century about meeting the author of a famous hymn, and how disappointing it was to meet a mere human with obvious faults, in contrast to the beautiful music and inspiring lyrics that uninspiring person had somehow created.
Art can be enjoyed, often more, without knowledge of the exact human frailties and foibles and faults the artist had to suffer. Unless one likes to wallow in the details of debased humanity like a pig in mud, which I admit has its own slimy pleasure.
Enjoy the sizzling sausage on your breakfast plate and don't worry too much about the rank abattoir from which it comes.
I was once seriously traumatized when I visited a moped factory.
I dont' think much of Courtney Love, but it has to be pretty awful to have lost your husband (and father of your young child) to suicide and then have a big chunk of the general public saying you're the reason he killed himself.
Each year they try to market these white trash heroes of the trailer court.
Why doesn't ISIS help us out here and off these marketers. Why do they kill good people, and let these fans live?
Whatever you say about Courtney Love, the Celebrity Skin album is Awe.Some.
IMO.
So the story is that his drug addiction traces to his classmates shaming him for his having tried to manipulate a retarded girl into having sex with him? In this is supposed to, what, make us feel sympathy for him?
Courtney just had a baby, and Kurt--in the middle of a drug session--came up with this thought that it would be the coolest thing ever if he and Courtney killed themselves with a shotgun. He thought it was an absolutely brilliant idea. He went first.
The guy with the brilliant idea should always go first.
Today my company blocked my access to this blog because of "Adult Content." I'm wondering whether this is the post that set off our automatic blocker. I'm probably going to get a call from someone tomorrow chiding me for attempting to access an adult website during work hours. (Since no one contacted me today.)
I never thought of him as meek. I'm not sure if it's true, but there was a story of him in his younger years in which the HS jocks would beat him up and he would not fight back, but wouldn't give in either. When they would stop, he'd smile and give them the finger and they'd start in again...repeatedly. That has elements of martyrdom, but meek it isn't.
