Martin Short devastates a doctor.

"Cosmetic dermatologist Fredric Brandt - who was recently rumored to be the inspiration behind a character on the Netflix show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — died on Sunday, aged 65...."
The Dr Franff character is depicted on the Netflix show with a high-pitched laugh and unable to speak certain words due to his plastic surgery. He is also seen drinking from a surgical bag and reinflates his own face after being punched.

Dr Brandt, who was known for working with stars including Madonna and Stephanie Seymour, died in his Miami home on Sunday after ‘suffering from an illness,’ his publicist said.
Jacquie Tractenberg did not reveal information about the illness, cause of death or the circumstances of the death.

I guess the theme of the blog today is laughably inadequate explanations which invite speculation.

Never really been able to stomach Martin Short. Through all the gooning and gurning there always seems to be an underlying desperate neediness that I find hard to watch.

I am Laslo.

Especially with a Doctor's access to drugs, these celebrity suicides make difficult the argument that execution by hanging or garroting is cruel and unusual punishment.

I agree with you Laslo

Short's Dr Franff was creepy and hilarious...the show is hilarious...

The show is marginally funny, in a pretty un-offensive way. What it lacks in raw humor it makes up for in sheer volume. It has about 3 times the jokes-per-episode of most half hour programs. However, that Dr. Franff character is genius. And that's from a person who isn't a big Short fan (ugh, Jimini Glick).

It is called "cyberbullying" and it is happening everywhere. Twitter and social media have unleashed a lot of crazies into this world. Who knows what that doctor's twitter timeline or social media looked like with fans for the show sending him rude/cruel tweets. Depraved people are doing that for others on reality shows. They call it opinion. It is disturbing.

Perhaps Mrs. Palin should be consulted about how to survive public skewering at the hands of Ms. Fey.

Mean girls grown up hide behind the fine print: Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

She was so careless with her stiletto, he minded the pain.

I agree with others; Dr. Franff was a brilliant bit character.

Twitter is a middle school playground.

It would have been kinder to have made him not resemble this doctor so much since the comedy was not reliant on knowing about the doctor.

I can see how that would devastate him. His whole career is devoted to making people feel beautiful. I'm sure seeing himself portrayed as a grotesque was a severe blow.

I agree with Freeman. I loved the bit (especially noting that since she spent her 20s in a bunker, she has no sun damage, but horrible scream lines), but I never heard of the doctor, so they could have had made the character any "dermatologist to the rich and famous," for the same laugh.

Martin Short makes me laugh. He does a great Larry David impersonation.

Doctor who?

Martin Short did a character on SNL where he's plays a character who is a subject of a 60 minutes piece. The guy is always denying stuff the questioner hasn't even asked; he's so paranoid that he thinks it is being implied. Turns out the character was based on someone who worked at SNL at the time. I think Short accidentally let it spill to the guy that the characterization was of him. Lots of characters are inspired by real people.
