"Look, I love art. I work in the arts. I cherish world monuments, and have traveled to see them."

"Why are you promoting the use of force to save things, while the slaughter of innocents and the destruction and displacement of their communities have not moved you to such action?"

Comment at a NYT op-ed titled "Use Force to Stop ISIS’ Destruction of Art and History."

Is that because the destruction of religious minorities is less important than the destruction of ancient artifacts?

Some think so.

It's similar to people's reaction to animal cruelty. People are assumed to be able to speak and act for themselves. Animals and monuments not so much. Humans "deserve" what they get. Animals and monuments are presumed to be innocent. Toss in "priceless antiquity" compared to "just another wog," and the indifference to the latter is complete.

Going to museums is a class signifier, and so is contempt for religious minorities.

Life is cheap for liberals. It's the only possible way you can be pro-abortion.

This is a shibboleth for them. If you want to save these cultural artifacts, you're one of the cool kids at the upper manhattan cocktail parties.

If you want to save people from slaughter and rape and slavery you're one of those icky people like those Jesus freaks who are all totally fundamentalist.

Yes, to the comment at the article, that is the first thing at occurred to me too.

The culture of the people being slaughtered helped find and preserve those artifacts. If they all die, there will probably be no further protection, even after any armed art intervention. Unless we want the Metropolitan to get the equivalent of the Elgin Marbles! How colonial!

The "innocents" are Others with weird ideas. What self-respecting liberal will give them a second thought?

The things, on the other hand, are Culture, which every self-respecting liberal resents having taking off their bucket list.

Nuff said. Toss in contempt for majorities in some countries, when it comes to Christians being persecuted by Muslims (Kenya) or Progressives.

Nobody is innocent. The more people gone, the less carbon footprints, the better for liberals to save the world.

Liberals love humanity but hate the wrong kind of people.

I pray daily for those who are persecuted for their religious beliefs. I don't limit my prayer to only Christians, but for all who are killed or otherwise abused for their religious beliefs.

Along with prayers, we should hone our marksmanship skills.

Remember kids, those who burn books will soon burn people.

Since when did wanting to save Shia Muslims and Christians from slaughter become a Jesus-freak thing?
