The blue-and-black dress that looked white and gold...

... worn last night by one of the "American Idol" contestants.

So so so glad Shi is gone. Now if that super young boy will be sent home next I'll be happy.

An original re-imagining of that song, yes, but I agree with JLo and Harry -- you can't make a known song overly weird. If Jax didn't have the good voice she has, that would have been a trainwreck.

Make it your own... no, don't make it your own.

They try to make them all crazy, don't they?

Do this, do that, no, don't do that.

I think they're just screwing with Jax because she's the only good female contestant and they don't want us the audience to lapse into the assumption that only the males matter.

Talk about Cheese Jax, real cheesey.

I'd prefer the blue-and-black dress that looked naked-and-naked.

Wet T-shirts for everybody.

I am Laslo.

The famous blue-and-black dress had been altered to be much shorter, and you could tell she was having trouble with it riding up. The tighter part that would have been around the lower thighs and knees was gone, so it wasn't held down in the way it was designed to be. I felt a little sorry for Jax, as she was up on stage, with an audience right under her. This young woman wasn't supposed to think about how they could all look right up her dress and how the dress was inching upward.

Sarina Joy is a good singer too. She and Jax are my favorite females thus far. As long as JLo doesn't start calling them "Baby" they'll do fine.

On the guy's side, definitely the guy from Brooklyn -- is it Qaasim? -- and the guy from New Orleans with the off-putting nose ring. Both very entertaining. Mr. Big Lips (Chase? Trace? Chance? Not sure of his name) can sing well, but the last two performances weren't that great, he has to up his game. I also like the old guy -- the one who is 28. Nice voice.

I looked up the names.

Qaasim I got right!

Quentin is the nose-ring dude.

Clark, not Chase/Trace/Chance.

Nick is the old guy.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

It's Clark's to lose.

Clark and Quentin in the finale.

There. Did I get it right?

Jax and Nick in the final 4.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Clark is the one that looks like Ronan Farrow.

Qaasim seems like he's been practicing his dancing and posing all his life by looking at old Michael Jackson videos. He does the zombie dance from "Thriller." I'll bet he's watched the "Smooth Criminal" video thousands of times and tried to copy it.

Interesting theory. But wrong--

Ok I'll start watching the show again if Georgia Tech has a contestant dressed in White and Gold.

अनामित म्हणाले...

At least this time I see it as black and blue.

No, the dress in the picture was white and gold. This is some other dress.

At first I thought the whole dress thing was just weird and silly, but then I decided it was a neat way to get people to be aware of how their brains process images and that we don't just "see things how they are" but often manufacture what we think (subconsciously) should be. Depending on how much of the picture is shown, I've seen either B&B or W&G; I had some idea of the theory behind it from other things (like the famous colored tile illusion). I could even stare at the W&G one and eventually see B&B.

It's a cool social experiment.
