On Fox News Sunday today, Ben Carson basically stated that he's running for President.

From the transcript:
CHRIS WALLACE: I want to talk, now surprisingly, some politics with you. You say that some people have been brainwashed that they think that only politicians can run for office and I wonder when you said that whether you were thinking about me, because as you know I've raised with you, we're friends, the questions about your prospects in running for president and I've got to say you have proven me wrong. We're going to put up two recent polls. The latest Fox News national poll, you are in fourth place behind Bush and Huckabee and Paul, but ahead of a whole lot of other people. Then let's look at Iowa, where you are in fourth place, but you are running ahead of Jeb Bush and a bunch of senators and governors. So, and I say this is a bit of a mea culpa, Dr. Carson, why are you connecting with voters?

BEN CARSON: Well, I think people are beginning to understand that our country is in a great deal of trouble and if we continue with politics as usual, be they Democrat or Republican politics as usual, we're going to continue to sink and, you know, we're called the United States of America and we need to be looking at things that work for all of us, not selecting out groups of people that we want to favor and groups of people that we want to demonize and the things that I'm talking about are American things and things that work. Things that are affected by common sense. You don't have to be a lifelong politician to have common sense. Sometimes I think the longer you are in there, the less common sense you have.

WALLACE: So ...

CARSON: We just ...

WALLACE: So, let me -- excuse me. We just have limited time here, sir. So, an exploratory committee in the next couple of weeks and a formal announcement by May?

CARSON: I believe that sounds like a reasonable time frame. Absolutely.

(LAUGHTER)

WALLACE: Really? I mean you are saying it? And you are going to announce an exploratory committee this month and a formal announcement of your presidential run this spring?

CARSON: Well, you know, I'm a very careful person, so I want to make sure I have all of the infrastructure in place. To be able, if I make such an announcement to tell you the answer to all the questions that you are going to be asking in terms of personal and rational, so we're putting all that together, yes.

WALLACE: It sounds like a pretty definite yes, but we'll wait and we'll have you back for the announcement in May.

Walker should announce tonight. He handles being attacked and always smiles as he counterpunches .

Too many cooks (x8)

It takes a lot to make a stew
But when it comes to me and you
And him, and her, and the baby too
Too many cooks, it's true
The saying goes it'll spoil the broth
Honey, I think that's not true
Well, maybe too many cooks will spoil the broth
but they'll fill our hearts with so much, so much love
...too many cooks

A family is like a soup
Everyone adds an extra scoop
Mix an ounce of smiles so sweet
A dash of cool to add the heat
And you've got

Too many cooks (x18)

It takes a lot to make a stew
Especially when it's me and you
and him, and Steve from corporate too
Too many cooks it's true
The saying goes it'll spoil the broth
Honey I think that's not true
Well maybe too many cooks will spoil the broth
but they'll fill our hearts with so much, so much love
so much love, fill our hearts with love...

Too many cooks (x19)

It takes a lot to make a stew
I couldn't face these streets without you
A dash of crime to add some spice
The city's like a pressure cooker turned up too high

Some people say it'll spoil the broth
But that's not the American way
Too many cooks
Too many cooks will serve a helping of freedom and resist the forces of evil

It takes a lot to make a stew
A pinch of salt and laughter too

Unlike some commenters who get all Tea Party butt hurt over every little thing I just want a Republican to pick the next few SCOTUS justices in the near future.

I like Carson a lot, but I don't think we need another OJT guy...

He's running for Vice President.

Titus म्हणाले...

He is insane! Perfect. Let the clown car proceed.

Gahrie म्हणाले...

I'm glad he is running, but he has no shot.

The Republicans need to nominate someone who has actually done something, which means most likely a governor.

I'm still pushing Bolton/Ernst though.....

As do I. I just don't think the likes of McConnell, McCain, Boehner, Graham, et al are particularly Republican. Whatever cosmetic votes they make cast to keep their ACE ratings up, when the crucnh comes they vote reliably Democrat-lite/K Street.

richard mcenroe म्हणाले...

Sorry, ACE should have been ACU

Fox News is in the bag for Jeb. Puffing up Carson is a great way to try and take the steam out of Walker's strong showing in Iowa.

buwaya म्हणाले...

How is he insane ?
He seems to have had a perfectly admirable nonpolitical career doing actual valuable work. That's not a mark of an insane man.
He may not have much of a chance, but plenty of people with even smaller chances run anyway. And politics can work in curious ways.
As for running for VP, thats a very good possibility. He would be very useful for balancing the ticket, bringing in white extreme conservatives and at least some blacks. He has interesting advantages in this sense, much like the appeal of Clarence Thomas.
If not that, I am sure he is in the shortlist for a cabinet position.

Bob Ellison म्हणाले...

We can be proud of Dr. Ben Carson.

Ken Mitchell म्हणाले...

Ben Carson for Surgeon General in the Cruz/Jindal Administration!

I couldn't vote for Carson for Prez, unless the alternative were Hillary, in which case we're screwed either way. Carson is probably a great guy - but he's pro-gun control, and I can't vote for that.

Gun rights are my proxy for liberty. People who like gun control always seem to want to limit other liberties as well, while pro-gun people are more often pro-freedom.

Ben Carson can't win but I hope he shows everyone that he is orders of magnitude a better (AA) individual than Obama. His life story and individual accomplishments are far better than what Obama could ever offer. Hope he inspires AAs everywhere.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

"Hope he inspires AAs everywhere."

AA -- Alcoholics Anonymous?

I hate those guys. Just because I am there to drink free coffee and scope out troubled chicks doesn't mean I need to tell you my story.

I am Laslo.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

Back in the 90s after a meeting you could always score coke off an AA guy or gal in the parking lot.

They would admit to an alcohol problem so they could elide past the coke intake. Makes the family think all is well.

I think we can all agree: children, don't snort coke in a parking lot. Or a public bathroom.

I am Laslo.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

I don't sell coke at AA meetings for the money: I do it for the so-many-days-sober coins.

The coins come in handy. Cops believe that shit.

I am Laslo.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

I believe this is the speech that made Ben Carson famous.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

"Hey! Who after the meeting wants some 'powdered donuts'?

Ben Carson is one of the several I'll be watching to see how he handles himself.

I can't wait until the debates.

Titus: "He is insane! Perfect. Let the clown car proceed."

Wisconsin moron Titus says this guy is insane:

Ben Carson: Yale and Univ of Michigan Medical School Graduate.

From Wikipedia: "Carson was a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics, and he was the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.[6] At age 33, he became the youngest major division director in Johns Hopkins history, as director of pediatric neurosurgery. He was also a co-director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center.

According to Johns Hopkins Hospital literature, “Dr. Carson focuses on traumatic brain injuries, brain and spinal cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynostosis, epilepsy, and trigeminal neuralgia. He is also interested in maximizing the intellectual potential of every child."

Gee, that almost reads like the textbook definition of insane.

I mean, how can Carson be sane when he hasn't fabricated a false rape claim like Titus heroine Lena Dunham?

Plus, according to Titus, Lena Dunham "fucking loves science".

Yeah, I'll be she could teach a thing or two about science to this uppity black guy who dares to be a neuro-surgeon and conservative.

Having said that, I really think Carson should look around at potential Senate level runs.

There's no room in the clown car because it's stuffed full with the entire Obama administration, the Hillary2016 campaign, and the democrat party media and their spokesliar Brian Williams.

The same could have been said about Obama in 2006. The same can be said albeit rather charitably today about Hillary. Carson has something Hillary doesn't; a real record of accomplishment. Come to think all potential Republican candidates have a real record of accomplishment compared to Hillary.

Achilles म्हणाले...

Pro gun control.

Not on the ticket. Maybe cabinet.

Brando म्हणाले...

I know we all love a good "outsider" but without any government experience or executive leadership experience it's just not going to happen. The guy should try for a lower office first, show that he can win an election or run some government office before going for the big spot.

But then, half the Republican field is usually made up of guys who really just want to audition for their own talk show or enhance their speaking fees for later. Or maybe Dr. Carson is auditioning for Surgeon General or HHS Secretary? We'll know for sure if he drops out and endorses the front runner without embarrassing himself.

Brando म्हणाले...

"The same could have been said about Obama in 2006. The same can be said albeit rather charitably today about Hillary."

Yeah, and look how they turned out. The last time either party nominated someone who hadn't held elective office before was Ike, and his background leading the Allies in Europe counted as significant executive experience, and his war hero status was a trump card.

I've always been partial to Condi Rice, but figured if she wanted to run for president she ought to run for a lower office first just to prove she can campaign. There's a very specific skill set involved, and even very smart and capable people can fall short at it.

Marc in Eugene म्हणाले...

I learned from Facebook that Dr C. is in the 'extremist file' of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

richard mcenroe म्हणाले...

The SPLC is a couple of clowns at a desk typing Tea Partiers into a database.

The FBI no longer uses them as a reliable source on hate groups.

Oddly, unlike most of the groups and individuals SPLC lists, SPLC itself has inspired at least one act of hate-crime terror, the Family Resource Center shooting.

Revenant म्हणाले...

The same could have been said about Obama in 2006. The same can be said albeit rather charitably today about Hillary.

Eventually, people will learn that "he isn't much less qualified than Obama was" is not a ringing endorsement for a Republican presidential candidate.
