Creepy email subject line from the Democratic Party: "I don't see your name on this list, Ann."

Quite aside from creepiness, there's the flat-out lying: a "personalized, official Democratic Party membership card... will be a pretty cool thing to have."

This stuff must work or they wouldn't keep doing it.

What about the statement, "I spent all weekend reading this thing over"?

Unless the Democratic Party doesn't have access to computers, that is a lie. That lie is even introduced with the BS red flag, "trust me."

I'm going to just go ahead, and assume thats a scam, and try to enjoy the rest of my day.

The phrase "card-carrying" is creepy as well. If you put the phrase into Google, what comes up is:

...freemason
...communist
...villain

"Act now, and we will throw in a custom designed brown shirt with official OFA logos."

I'm sure the Republicans do the same thing, but they probably tone down the weird familiarity.

Loyalty to a political party is a strange concept to me.

Loyalty arises from trust. I do not trust politicians or political parties. Screw them.

Brando म्हणाले...

They need to send one out saying "I like the sweater you're wearing today, [NAME]". For a lot of people it wouldn't make sense, but for those wearing sweaters when they're reading it, it'll send a chill up their spine.

And then they'll know the DNC doesn't take no for an answer.

Scott M म्हणाले...

...a pretty cool thing to have. Honestly. When the big men in brown shirts are shaking everyone else down, you'll get a total pass...

I'm sure the Republicans do the same thing, but they probably tone down the weird familiarity.

Not at the RNC level. Individuals to whom I've contributed sometimes send me Emails along the lines of "I need help retiring my campaign debt."

Curious George म्हणाले...

Wouldn't the lie be that you "already chipped in online?" I thought you hadn't given money since Feingold first ran? That would be in 93, so online wasn't an option then.

Curious George म्हणाले...

Ah, reading closer, the wording is confused...I guess the question then is "How are these 30,000 people like you?"

Will Cate म्हणाले...

You're not on the list, Ann. Your not on the list. Don't you understand how cool you would be if you were on the list? But you're not on the list. You know what that makes you, Ann? Uncool. You don't want to be uncool, do you?

Now cough up that $10.

bleh म्हणाले...

She's definitely on a list. A bad list. A list of baddies who don't cough up to be on the good list.

Wait, 30,000 nationally? $10?

You want your Party card number to be low, but not too low--remember what happened to Bukharin and Trotsky.

Chris N म्हणाले...

The Republican party offered me a 'spot on the yacht' if I donated $50 or more.

Consolation prize was in Member's Only jacket from the 80's you could 'wear with pride.'

Seriously, though, last campaign cycle, they pushed at me with some 'hard sell' donation tactics.

Both parties seem to be dealing with a lot of change right now.

I"m a sucker if a candidate promise economic growth, limited government, and relative foreign policy competence.

Lots of waste in Washington right now, too many regs and laws, too many enlightened (aren't we all) pigs at the trough.

Chris N म्हणाले...

From where I stand, the Democrats seem to have gone 'full retard,' activist, old-timey union, faculty lounge intellectual Left as America tries to atone for its original sin, the old journalistic establishment is more easily seen for what it pretty much is and the value it actually adds (given the new technology), and the Republican Tea Party populist base is making demands on the establishment guard and the Beltway crowd.

Interesting times.

Join up, Ann. Get on that list!

MaxedOutMama म्हणाले...

Well, if you show it to the IRS when they audit you ... and they suddenly adopt the "Lois Lerner" document retention rules instead of those stupid ones in the regs ... it WILL be a nice thing to have.

But your name's not on the list, Ann. And if your name's not on this list, it's on the OTHER list, Ann. Meaningful eye roll.

Remember as the Professor reported (not naming me) during the 2012 campaign they tried to intimidate me by sending a letter showing "all my neighbors" (names blanked out) were giving to Dems and I was the only one on the list (full name) giving to the Repubs with a $number (wrong)entered into the list.

I decided to give a bit more to Romney that day.

I don't know about the Dem.'s membership card, but I like getting my Libertarian Party membership card. But even the Libertarian National Committee doesn't bill the card as something that gets sent to members.

They also have much more intelligent fund raising letters the Democrats dop But the Dems make up for it in quantity. I must get at least a dozen e-mails from the DNC every week, and I never gave them a single penny.

What happens when some constituent from Peoria cums in a realizes they are in a replica of a Liberace Mansion?

I think it's creepy when Althouse shakes down her readers.

And, she is flat-out lying when she claims there's no cost to us when we use her portal. Amazon would be able to offer us better pricing if it wasn't sending kick backs to Althouse (and others). Shoplifters raise prices for brick and mortar stores, Althouse's portal raises prices at Amazon.

There is no plausible deniability here because Althouse knows this, and yet she, a lawprof, continues to lie.

And, if the D's send you a card w/ your name on it, isn't that the definition of something being personalized?

David म्हणाले...

Not a lie. It's as personal as the Democratic Party is going to get, and the target audience probably thinks it would be very cool to have one.

LOL

First, she doesn't shake down anyone, shortbus. There is no requirement for any blog commenter to use her portal to buy from Amazon.

Second, Amazon, being marketing and financial geniuses, unlike you being a fucking moron, know that it's a cheap way to drive business to their site.

God lefties are just dumb. I mean painfully dumb. And always lie...using words in their arguments...in this case "shake down", that are just flat untrue.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

I think Tits is missing the more interesting piece over at the Bezos Post.

40% of Iowa GOP voters think Beyoncé is mental poison. But, only 23% of them say the Obamas are bad parents because the girls are allowed to listen to mental poison.

WTF? 17% of these R's think it's ok to have your kids listen to mental poison.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

CG, Althouse's shake down is just as creepy as the D's shake down.

Both are voluntary.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

CG, it may be smart. But, it's not free. Any serious conservative would understand that the money Amazon gives to Althouse isn't invented out of thin air.

Chef Mojo म्हणाले...

Pretty creepy, indeed. RNC emails are pretty straightforward, but they can get a little weird, sometimes. But nothing near as weird as that little gem/dropping from the DNC.

The card thing really turns it up to 11. I wonder if the cards are numbered? Say, the lower the number, the higher you are in the Democrat hierarchy. In which case, if you haven't already gotten your card, you'll probably only get sneers of derision for having a high number.

"Oh, you only just recently joined up, I see, after all the running street battles, paint flagging our catchy symbol on walls, beating the piss outta Jews - I myself have actually killed one or two (chest swells with pride) - and burning down the Reichstag! Yes, we always welcome new Party members, however late to the party, ha,ha. Get it? Late to the party?"

Oops. Got my parties mixed up. Chemo brain, doncha know? Or did I? Still the card thing is totally creepy.

Party on, Dems!

No, they are different.

Dem Party: No money, no card.

Althouse: No portal, still comment.

You're an idiot. Here's more proof:

"PBandJ_LeDouanier said...

It costs money for Amazon to drive buyers to their e-store Corky. It clearly costs less to have folks like Althouse, with thousands of viewers, advertise and drive buyers there, than other methods or missing sales.

I routinely give entities commissions to refer business to my company. It's cheaper than any other method. It LOWERS my cost of sales, and INCREASES my revenues. Since you are a moron, it makes me MORE profitable. If you don't understand what profit is, look it up.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

CG,

Nobody is forced to donate and therefore receive the card. It would be oppressive if donating to the D's and carrying a D card was mandatory. But it is NOT. Donating and receiving the card (not to mention being on the D's mailing list, as Althouse chooses to be, even though she repeatedly pretends that this email list is creepily stocking her) is 100% voluntary.

Althouse's argument isn't that she's creating business for Amazon. For example, during the holidays she tells readers who are doing online shopping that they should use her portal for their Amazon shopping because this she claims this is a free way to send money to Meadehouse. But, if folks ignore Althouse and do their shopping directly with Amazon, there is more money for Amazon. Hence, Amazon can return these savings to directly to its customers instead of sending it to WI.

BTW, doesn't it seem like the money grubbing has increased since the formation of Meadehouse. For example, remember when Meade, as some sort of incentive, was posting about particular items that were purchased through the portal.

Meade, no matter what, you're the man of the house. You're a big strong manly mega tough guy. Very grande. There's no need to pretend you're contributing on the financial side of Meadehouse. In fact these desperate acts only emphasize that there's an massive imbalance in the bread winning duties.

I've only received political emails from Sherrod Brown, and the Ohio D's. It's odd because I never gave them money, nor voted for Brown.

Laura म्हणाले...

Carrying an identification card is good for a member of Democrat party, but bad for a voter on election day?

Do multiple donations get you multiple identities?

Why not a free downloadable icon and artwork so the people of the party of the people can make the card themselves, with cardstock, some pens and scissors?

jr565 म्हणाले...

Hmmm they want to give democrats official membership cards printed up. Sounds like it's not that hard a thing to do.
If they could have an official democrat ID card, surely they could have an ID card to vote.

jr565 म्हणाले...

What's wrong with Althouse having a portal to Amazon. If you don't want to use it you don't have to.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

"What's wrong with Althouse having a portal to Amazon. If you don't want to use it you don't have to."

Why is Althouse repeatedly creeped out by D fundraising emails when the only reason she receives them is because she's choosing to join these D email lists? She doesn't need to be on an email list which is dedicated to supporting and raising dough for Ds.

She acts like they're stocking and deceiving her, when all evidence only points to the exact opposite situation.

Well, since Republicans are well known (among leftists) for their desire to round up Democrats in camps and "re-educate" them with forced labor until dead, having a Democrat ID card could be a dangerous thing in the near future, under a Republican controlled legislature and presidency.

Wait, what? It isn't Republicans who intern people and condemn them to work until dead, but leftists?

Who knew? Go ahead and get your Democrat card, before it becomes mandatory.
