At the Rose Rug Café...

... take off your shoes and settle in.

And please use the Althouse Amazon Portal if you need to do any shopping. Me, I just bought season 3 of "Shameless," 5 "Big Ass" Bands, a ceramic coffee milltoe separators, and this cocktail shaker.

ADDED: The cocktail being shaken around here is the Negroni, which was possibly "invented in Florence, Italy in 1919, at Caffè Casoni... [when] Count Camillo Negroni... [asked] the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water." (And I know it's more common to serve a Negroni over ice. I don't like ice in drinks. It hits your face! I don't even like restaurant ice water. Just give me cold water. One of the best things about the below-zero temperatures we've been having in The North is that the tap water is perfectly icy cold.)

The more I read about Walker, the more I like him. I really hope he doesn't get railroaded by the Establishment.

With one eye on this (and various related coverage): It's kind of interesting that in the Senate, when Democrats are in the majority, it's the minority's fault that the majority can't transact business, and when Democrats are in the minority, it's the majority's fault that it can't transact business. It's almost as if the media has a narrative to sell.

On more important matters, and speaking of buying DVD seasons of shows, we finally got finished watching the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Only a decade late, but it's great stuff.

You actually paint your toes in February and buy a separator?

I expected "Big Ass Bands" to be Glenn Miller and the like.

I wouldn't expect too much from 5 Big Ass Bands. You would probably experience better results with a reasonable diet and some exercise.

I'm not using the bands as exercise equipment but to hold books shut.

@AA My mistake. I didn't follow the link and ass umed they were a "miracle" reducing apparatus that a person with a large posterior would wear beneath their clothing.

One son wanted to have friends over to watch a movie. We suggested E.T. He picked The Kid Brother. We wondered how that would go over.

The kids loved it. They were in hysterics. One girl said, "This movie is killing me. It's making me laugh so hard, I think I might die."

Making kids laugh for nearly 100 years--now that's a classic.

Thanks Freeman for "The Kid Brother" as I am always looking for hidden goodies for my grands.

Nice shaker, Professor. I have one similar. An alternative use: scrabbling eggs

How's the WI John Doe litigation coming? Haven't heard much since last Fall.

I am used to using a Boston shaker, and I think it's a bit more functional once you have practiced. But I might get a cobbler shaker like that for my wife, who finds the Boston shaker awkward. Let us know how you like it. (My issues with cobblers in the past have been rust and loss of a tight fit after a few times through the dishwasher.)

I was more amused by the Toe Separators. They look more like a 'Toe Rack' or 'High Heel Foot Syndrome Restorer'.

If that wasn't Amazon I would be thinking more like,
"Enableur D'Frottage"

(Pardon my French)

Remember 1956 and the Suez Canal?
No European government since have - or will - contemplate starting a war, or anything else big, without permission from Uncle Sugar.
I think that is what Angela Merkel was doing in Washington recently, and the answer was, no way Jose.

I think that in the Middle East, it is Obama's idea to eventually pull out all American influence - civil as well as military - and maneuver Iran and the Moslem Brotherhood into being thr Shia and Sunni "big brothers" to play "a constructive role in the region" and keep the peace.
Or something like that. Anyway, pull the US out of it.
Rots of ruck with that, GI!

Negroni - reminds me I'm out of red vermouth. Check out some of these spirits from "Art in The Age." Highly spiced like Campari (in different ways, obviously.) We've made variations of Manhattans, Sidecars, and Old Fashioneds. We took a chance on a bottle of Snap based on a recipe. Liked it a lot and then bought the Root.
