"This is not only a front-runner for worst red carpet look of 2015..."

"... we’re pretty sure we’d have no problem putting this in a Top Ten list of the worst red carpet looks of the past five years or so. THAT’S how bad it is."

If you look at the comments Ken Roby has the win:
"She should wear this for the SAG awards, because that's what her Golden Globes appear to be doing."
- Ken Roby.

I chuckled.

Not a good dress, but she's a really nice-looking lady.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

It might be nice if she cinched it up a bit--she looks like a colorform doll and the little girl playing with her didn't stick the dress on quite right.

Lucid म्हणाले...

It's amazing that dress makes her look ten years older than she looks like in "Gone Girl". Too much skin exposed and yet she looks frumpy.

Julie C म्हणाले...

You know, she just had a baby five weeks ago.

Every woman who's had a kid is having sympathy boob pains looking at this outfit.

She's a beautiful woman but that dress does her no favors at all.

Julie C म्हणाले...

Tom and Lorenzo commenters are calling for a formal apology from Vera Wang, the designer of said (sad) dress.

No woman wants boob wings.

Martha म्हणाले...

Perfect dress to wear if you are breastfeeding?

She looks half-dressed.

Hagar म्हणाले...

I think I saw a picture of Jennifer Lopez that would be a runner-up.

But it worked for the X-men's Emma Frost!

Shanna म्हणाले...

That is an over the top description, as I think I've seen much worse.

It is true that the dress does her no favors but I at least see what it was going for. The bodice was bad and should have been redone. Sometimes you shouldn't show so much skin. Less is more. And clearly she needed more support.

Franklin म्हणाले...

Looks pretty hot to me.

Without venturing into the thicket of fashion vs sport, and the relative importance of each to human culture, I spent the noon- 3:30 p.m. hours yesterday watching the Packers with my son while my wife spent the 8-11 p.m. hours watching the Golden Globes with the girls with nary a minute of co-watching among the sexes.

Then this morning, I read the paper's account of the events I watched, and she the ones she watched, both already knowing the outcome, of course, since we watched, but still not interested in crossing over into the other's events.

Reading the two gay men (I presume) attack the wardrobe choice of an objectively very attractive woman during the pre-game of the Globes show ratifies my deliberate indifference in that fashion/tabloid/movie event.

And my wife was perplexed at how much the referee interpretation of an arcane rule could have affected the outcome of the football game, and that ratified her choice of not really caring to invest time in watching that sporting event.

The dress is different and not one I'd wear.

Rosamund Pike is only 35 years old. That dress makes her look 50.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I think she may have it on backwards. At least it would be more interesting.

I was planning to see "Gone Girl" so I read the book first. It was awful ! I canceled any plan to see the movie.

Rocketeer म्हणाले...

Do you have a "War on Women" tag? If so, surely this deserves it. Both the designer of the dress for the actress and the queens writing about the dress and the actress seem to really, really hate the ladies.

Lyssa म्हणाले...

I feel like that dress could work - it looked like the straps were too long, and it would need to be on someone with a very, very tight body (35 is probably too old, and post-partum is definitely wrong). But it seemed like it could be quite lovely and sexy, if done well.

Mary Beth म्हणाले...

I think Gwyneth Paltrow's pink dress looked as bad or worse.

Titus म्हणाले...

hilarious and hideous.

ddh म्हणाले...

As unflattering as Rosamund Pike's dress is, Björk's swan dress permanently retired the prize for worst dress.

mccullough म्हणाले...

How much independent fashion sense should we expect our starlets to have?

Seems to me the designer should get the entire blame.

She's pretty. No dress can detract from that.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

The 2 rectangles over the breasts are angled to create an optical illusion of a very small waist, as if you won't notice or focus on the slabs of bare flesh on the sides. There are a lot of dresses with this kind of hourglass figure at the center, but it's normally done with light and dark fabric to create the illusion. It's such a stark shape within a shape that it's kind of humorous, maybe, or, more likely delusional and sad.

mccullough म्हणाले...

The dress looks better in the profile photo.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Did they run out of money when it came time to buy material for the bodice?

Hard to top Ken Roby's comment. Thanks to jr565 for reprinting it.

jaed म्हणाले...

Meh. I've seen many worse dresses. I expected a trainwreck from the copy, but that's not a trainwreck. Not a success but not a disaster.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

I'd buy her a drink.

Barry Dauphin म्हणाले...

Joan Rivers was a lot better at this sort of clothing "analysis".

Trashhauler म्हणाले...

What's wrong with the top? It doesn't look like it was fitted at all.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I don't see the problem. Red carpet dresses are supposed to attract attention. Slightly weird is the rule.

Breast display modes are the chief variable.

You got your cleavage, you got your sideboob, and a breast that would pass the pencil test.

JAORE म्हणाले...

I love viewing women, especially beautiful women. I like exposed skin in proper amounts and display. Can't help it. Years ago a gay friend - lovingly - called be disgustingly heterosexual. Guilty as charged (RIP, Kevin).

One of the features I most admire in a woman is the curve between the waist and the hips. Though this woman is in good condition, especially for 5 weeks after giving birth, she appears to have no waist at all. This can be covered by fabric and a waist simulated by the dress' cut and pattern. Not so when the sides of the dress are missing. It is especially bad from the rear.

The dress turned a beautiful woman into a laughing stock.

Mark म्हणाले...

It's a good thing Vera Wang wasn't a designer samurai in the Edo Period, because I think designers then had special scissors designed specifically for these situations.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Somehow this reminded me of Valerie Cherish at the Emmy's wearing the latest from the hottest designer with a plunging neckline that was ridiculous. She was wearing it backwards.

jr565 म्हणाले...

I"ve seen a lot better. But I've also seen a lot worse.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

That is an over the top cruel critic. At least Joan Rivers was funny with the cutting jokes about another woman's clothes.

Wince म्हणाले...

Looks like a toilet paper halter.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Such lame, over the top, criticism means there is nothing left.

Next year there will be a worse dress. Or maybe later this year.

Then what is there to write?

RecChief म्हणाले...

lotta catty remarks here. on a feminist's blog.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Blowhard critic.

Aussie Pundit म्हणाले...

I like it.

The demographic that consume lots of articles about celebrities love to have something to bitch and gossip about.
Quite often they bitch about beautiful women wearing unusual, catchy dresses that highlight their sexuality.
"It's not bad, it's horrible! It's an eyesore!" Etc.

No, it's not.
It's quite nice.
She's beautiful and famous, and readers of celeb gossip are not.

No amount of catcalling will change that.

अनामित म्हणाले...

She is gorgeous. Knowing she just had a baby makes her even more gorgeous. Wish her the best!
