"Next week, Scott Walker will go to the Packers' game, root for his state's team, & sit in the cheap seats & freeze with the common people."

Tweets Bill Kristol, right after "Chris Christie cavorting with Jerry Jones in the owner's box. Numbers plummeting in IA & NH. OTOH, will Jones write big Super PAC checks?"

Then: "And Rick Perry and Ted Cruz will go to Green Bay to root for Dallas, but will sit out in the cold with the voters rather than the donors," "What about Jeb? He doesn't watch football. He'll be at a polo match," "Huck will watch the game at a church-affiliated youth center in Des Moines," and "Rand Paul? Doesn't watch football. Doesn't approve of team sports."

I don't believe Gov. Walker has ever sat in the cheap seats with us common people. I know Mary Burke has.

I believe Walker and Cruz will probably be legitimately in the cheap seats.

I have a hard time believing Rick Perry would sit in the cheap seats and feel comfortable.

Bob Ellison म्हणाले...

I sat in the cheap seats at last year's Superbowl and threw up because I'm afeared of heights.

We're using the term cheap as relative here, right?

Is Elizabeth Warren going to the New England vs Baltimore game?

If so, where is she sitting?

I believe her descent into the masses is over. Perhaps a few more years of snowboarding will cleanse her soul.

Christie tried to walk to the cheap seats, but conked out after one flight of steps. He's better @ walking the beach with Team Zero.

Walker seems to shun the public events where he would have to mingle or perhaps even take a question from the non-donor class. A real Man of the people.

The Godfather म्हणाले...

Have you ever listened to FDR's "bank holiday" radio broadcast? It was a lecture by a patrician to the proles about why they (the proles) were foolish to want to pull their money out of the banks. But you poor dears can do so if you really are silly enough to want to, when we tell you you can. It could have been the Earl of Grantham speaking.

And the people ate it up (so I'm told; even I am not old enough to have heard the speech live). In those days, people were used to the idea that their "betters" knew what they were doing and should be both respected and trusted.

That respect and trust led to public acceptance of economic policies (Hoover's as well as FDR's) that converted what could have been "the Panic of '29" into a decade-long Depression.

So now those who want to be our leaders feel they have to show that they don't believe that they are our betters. They are just folks. Walker can do it. Christie can, too, at least as long as he stays fat. Jeb's kid brother did it, so I guess Jeb can, too. Bill Clinton, certainly did (he really wasn't better than us). Hillary! not so much. Sen. Fauxcohontas? No way.

I am not a robot.

Hey guys, don't get mad at the messenger. Walker shuns the public like a vampire shuns sunshine. Read into that what you want.

Say what you will about Christie, but it takes serious stones as a New Jersey governor to admit he is a life long, die hard Cowboys fan.

Of course it'd be insanity and sheer political suicide for him to admit to being an Eagles fan. So he's not crazy brave. That'd be like Walker outing himself as a Vikings fan.

Is there a cheap seat at NFL games anymore? The Dallas stadium I hear charges $60 for a pizza.

garage mahal: "I don't believe Gov. Walker has ever sat in the cheap seats with us common people. I know Mary Burke has."

Well, to be fair, Mary had more time after her own family fired her and she decided she needed a 2 year vacation to deal with the stress of that event.

Rand Paul might consider the teams that the SEALs "field" as coming from the spirit of other American teams.

My then-wife inveighed upon me to go to Pat O'Brien's for breakfast during a debauched visit the week before '95 Mardi Gras. Upon perusing the menu, the most reasonable option was Ham and Eggs.

Pat O'Brien's served a damn good Ham and Eggs. But $20 worth?

Child please.

That $60 pizza better be damn good.

Wilbur म्हणाले...

Yeah, I like that Christie unapologetically remains a Cowboy fan. I would like to hear a backstory as to how it occurred.

I don't think he had any idea how inappropriate and unattractive he would appear with his bud, Jerry. Even to me, who has nothing particularly against either of them.

I have a hunch last week someone on his staff attempted to raise the matter, and Christie quickly squelched it, for reasons of ego and hubris, believing it would spotlight him in a sympathetic light.

What do the cheap seats cost at Lambeau Field? In Washington the cheapest seats (end zone, upper deck, bring your own oxygen to combat altitude sickness) cost almost $700 a season.

Unknown म्हणाले...

You got my hopes up that this wasn't a joke; I'm going to be in the cheap(er) seats freezing at Lambeau Field next week. For those who were asking: the cheapest seats on StubHub were $170-$200, but not too much altitude sickness (my tickets, for $190 apiece, are in the back of a first floor end zone section).

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s ticket and travel to the Dallas Cowboys playoff game on Sunday was paid for by team owner Jerry Jones, according to a spokesman for the governor. The gifts from the NFL team owner follow the Christie administration giving millions of dollars worth of tax subsidies to the NFL.

The announcement from the governor’s office followed International Business Times first reporting today on Christie appearing in the NFL owner's box despite strict New Jersey ethics rules. Those rules subject public officials to “a zero tolerance policy for acceptance of gifts ... that are related in any way to [an officeholder’s] official duties.” As governor, Christie has overseen the state’s business with the NFL, most prominently during the 2014 Super Bowl.

Christie has cited those same ethics rules in barring other New Jersey officials from getting special access to tickets to events at state-owned arenas.

I wonder which of the special olympics participants garage and madisonfella were most happy about blocking in during Walkers comments?

Just another example of the courage and bravery of the left.

Why, it was dangerous standing there in front of all those special olympians. More dangerous than serving in Iraq, that's for sure.

Brando म्हणाले...

I'll join those giving credit to Christie for being a fan of a team that is pretty unpopular nationwide (and certainly earns him no points in his own state, full of fans of the Cowboys' two division rivals. I don't count the Redskins as a division rival but as a division goat). If you're a fan of a team, even a team I can't stand, that's all well and good.

Contrast it with Hillary deciding she was a Yankee fan just in time for the 2000 NY Senate election. It's not just craven, but so obvious that it says a lot about her estimation of New Yorkers' intelligence (which estimation they confirmed, by electing her).

I was just amused at 'the' game being referenced. Do you know how many football games are on the schedule from new years to the superbowl? Lots.

Brando म्हणाले...

"Who's he going to root for -- the JETS?!?"

Certainly--it's not about picking a non-laughingstock team so much as picking a team that connects you to your locale. And politically, it makes him look pro-underdog.

And if he couldn't stand rooting for such a disappointing team, there's always the Giants and Eagles, at least one of which is usually a playoff contender (this year being an exception).

Drago म्हणाले...

Brando: "And politically, it makes him look pro-underdog."

There may be some trans-Hudson/Delaware River enmity issues involved in rooting for those two. The Jets, as I understand it, are Jersey's team. Which in a cellar-dweller way makes alot of sense.

Brando म्हणाले...

"Well, there's "underdog" and then there's"subterranean-dog"."

Don't I know it! One of my close friends growing up was and remains a die-hard Jet fan (we grew up in the NY suburbs) and he suffered repeated ribbing over the years over a team that is perenially terrible. His reason for being a Jet fan? His dad was one, and HIS reason was because he was primarily a Yankees fan and back in the day the Giants tore up the field at Yankee Stadium so it was the Jets by default.

I on the other hand picekd the Ravens out of hatred for Dan Snyder. We all have our weird ways!

Brando म्हणाले...

The impression I always got was that the Jets were more the "blue collar fan's" team and the Giants were for the yuppies. Not sure how that came about, as "blue collar" folk likely can't afford to atttend either team's games.

Walker shuns the public life? That would be refreshing in a president instead of always being in your face gobbling hamburgers, teeing off, filling out his NCAA brackets, opining on so many black/white interactions, causing massive traffic jams and shutting down air traffic.

Christie owes no loyalty to either of the NFL teams that play in New Jersey considering they both still call themselves New York.

No fan owes loyalty to any NFL team, unless they're actually on the payroll. That team will leave your city in a heartbeat for a better deal.
