"Can you imagine what the equivalent caricature of a black person would look like?"

One can be perfectly nice, after all, and still fail to see that which is right before you, staring at you from the computer screen as you watch Eric Garner killed on the streets of Staten Island with an illegal chokehold.
In a story based on white guilt, why no mention of the woman in charge behind the scenes?
Eric garners fading sympathy.
Time after time after time, facts undermine these perfect racist scenarios the left Cooks up.
I cannot imagine hating people so much that I would read a Time Wise book.
Do not make the mistake of believing that Wise's obsession with white racism is self-hatred. He's just fine. So is every white person who voluntarily reads his books. It's other white people they hate.
Racism 3, white privilege 2 going into the last quarter.
White Privilege team was penalized 1 for not understanding lethal choke holds are not necessary to stop broken windows.
Tim Wise sounds angry beyond his years.
The race hustlers want to coopt a legitimate injustice to use to promote their shakedown culture and push for bigger government.
The other statists tell us we shouldn't resist the police or it is our fault if we die.
Nobody seems to notice that our government structure is indistinguishable from the mob circa 1960. This guy was killed because he was selling cigarettes and the shop owners paying protection money complained so Mr. Big sent out his thugs to "handle it."
As I understand it (and I could be wrong) Mr. Garner had a heart attack in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and died in the hospital (or could not be revived). The video makes it seem that he died on the sidewalk while a choke hold was used on him.
Althouse wants to turn the ridiculously high rate that citizens are killed by cops into some trivial issue that's all about her and her feelings.
Pathetic. Grow up.
Being stuck on stupid that Garner died from an unfoseeable accident incident to a lawful arrest amaze se me.
Accidents can happen in the dark and under a split second decision. Garner was sized up by police crew in broad daylight with time to do a good arrest, and then they intentionally choked into submission as if they are always backed up by a community that wants them killing the black men that are scary.
The smoke and mirrors PR is out covering it up, as if there was no choke hold but only a horse collar pull down. That is a damnd lie. The man was killed by an illegal bar arm on his throat.
It is past time that northern police forces admit they abuse black men and stop doing it. Maybe they can be given small animals to rip the heads off to satisfy their sadistic need to kill.
Wisconsin Badgers checked their White Privileged in the locker room-
Football Justice
Progressives are beclowning themselves day after day. It's a joy to watch. They have no clue how bad they're failing either.
"Can you imagine what the equivalent caricature of a black person would look like?"
Umm, yes.
But there's only $$ in anti-white agitprop.
traditionalguy, you have a habit of saying more than you know.
as for you, Achilles, I do not consider myself a statist. However, you and I both live in a society which is governed with the consent of the governed. We authorize police to perform police functions and to use police powers. As such, a law is broken, it must be enforced. Once the police are going to arrest you, they're not going to lose. If they lose there's a problem. They're not supposed to lose.
How would you expect that to happen? Every crook says I don't want to be arrested, the cop say oh okay I understand? how's that supposed to work? How does that play out in your mind?
How does that play out in your mind?
Ordnance vs. ordinance
In a world w/o laws, bullets supersede ballots. That may be where we're headed.
White guy writing about racism. Nice hustle he's got there.
Doesn't he know that if you're white you have to be racist.
@Mary Beth: If Horowitz were Bosnian, he'd have a hammer hole in his head already from those racists.
@ unknown...I am arguing Garner's killing from known evidence on the videos. What I don't know yet is not shown anywhere.
But I can use deductive reasoning from known facts and an understanding of the psychology of police culture and my serious wrestling skills to make what happened clear to me. The cover up skills of the local authorities are using are ridiculous insults to our intelligence.

Still, the woman in charge is the reason why Holder will fail to indict as well.
My advice to the left is to join forces with those on the right who protest overzealous tax collections.
Forget the bogus charges of racism in the Garner case. The GJ got this one right too -- if only for the "wrong" reasons.
Go fight your ideological battles on an ideologically pure hill. Otherwise, expect to roll downhill.
Two things: No, Three: It's a given that Eric Garner should not have died and the grand jury decision is hard to understand. Next, Planned Parenthood is a much bigger enemy of black America than are the cops. Without Roe v. Wade, African-Americans would now constitute 35% of the populace rather than 15%. Finally, Tim Wise is speaking of a class of people who are victimized and oppressed and have no way out. Why are Asian immigrants able to rise above absolute poverty and get an education and find success even though they come here with nothing and don't know the English language?
A Tale of Two Cities:
Eric Garner has a cousin.
That cousin worked his rear end off, obtained a solid university degree, became a Marine EA-6B BN (Bombardier Navigator), then a commercial airline pilot.
His response to the Eric Garner scenario? It's unfortunate but you simply cannot resist arrest and not expect the police at some point to use force to subdue you.
Who was it that said something about the banality of evil? Whoever that was, I don't think it was very nice.
Here are a couple of things for which those nice social justice warriors will not demand better grand jury results:
1. Any increases in police deaths caused by hesitation to act in their own defense
2. Any increases in violent crime because police failed to apprehend criminals as soon as they could
Sometimes,Life can be very displeasing especially when we loose the ones we love and cherish so much. in this kind of situation where one loses his/her soul mate there are several dangers engage in it. one may no longer be able to do the things he was doing before then success will be very scarce and happiness will be rare. that person was created to be with you for without him things may fall apart. That was my experience late last year. but thank god today i am happy with him again. all thanks goes to Dr. EDIONWE, i was nearly loosing hope until i saw an article on how Dr. EDIONWE could cast a love spell to make lovers come back. There is no harm in trying, i said to my self. i contacted him via email: edionwesolutiontemple@yahoo.com. words will not be enough to appreciate what he has done for me. i have promised to share the good news as long as i live. he also helped me with promotion in my office. Dr. EDIONWE work is wow... since i met this man, everything is just going as i wished. i am very happy now. i urge you all to contact him via email: edionwesolutiontemple@yahoo.com. No matter what your problem is, i believe there is a spiritual solution to it and its perfect. just try, you will be happy and will also share a testimony as i am doing now.

That Tim Wise fella sure doesn't seem very nice but he has cornered the market on self righteous twaddle! You betcha!
Tim Wise, author of 7 books on race and racism. Well there you go. It's his rice bowl.

I have no issues with overwhelming force or enforcing law. It is necessary. But we have to limit the scope of that enforcement to real breaches of liberty. Beating down fat black guys selling cigarettes on the corner because he is undercutting stores paying protection money to the state is not within that legitimate scope. People who are not hurting others should generally be left alone.
If there is confrontation there will be "accidents." This event was negligence and/or indifference but that is a different discussion. Any time you have to decide whether or not you are going to enforce some law and you decide to use overwhelming force people will die and we lose freedom. We have to decide if we want to bear those costs.
In this case, do we want people to die so new York can have it's tax revenue?
Racism may or may not be something that needs addressing. (my vantage point affords me no relevant experience)
But if what I am force fed by a media that is radical in it's leftist ideology, is an example of racism, then we have in fact conquered it.
Treyvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Gardner? That's not racism. Enforcing the law, self defense. That's not racism.
If in fact there are racist cops out there, highlight those and make a point. What has been chosen by the racebaiters to advance their radical agenda of faux victim status, has proven to me there are no real examples to highlight. Hence no racism.
I love how liberals seem so often to mistake "agreement" for "comprehension" and so if you don't agree with them, you are stupid.
ARM,
Tell us more about the "ridiculously high rate that citizens are killed by cops."
Do you have statistics and more importantly a methodology to share? In what context does "ridiculously high" become meaningful to you?
Otherwise you are just spouting bullshit.

See the graph in this and this article. It's not complicated and no fancy methodology is required to see such a shocking disparity.
This disparity between the US and other countries is clear evidence of a chronic failure of law enforcement in this country to do their job properly. This is not a black/white issue, despite the efforts of some to make it so. More whites are killed by cop than blacks.
Althouse is a coward for failing to address this directly, either because she doesn't want to offend the sensibilities of her audience or she is a totalitarian comfortable with cops indiscriminately killing citizens. Either way it is disgraceful.
And, Francisco D you are a dumbass, since you could have done the research yourself, instead of making yourself look like a fool.
ARM,
You have not done the research, just provided a few links.
I am a social scientist with two Ph.D.s. Any idiot can cite a study. The question is how do you understand the importance and limitations of the study? Was it unbiased in your opinion? Is it supported by other studies and/or data?
I am not going to read your links until I get your opinion of the "research" you cite. Then we might talk, if you wish to be responsive.
Wait a minute. All you have is opinions ... and links - the lazy man's "science."
Liberals are supposed to be the smart ones? What a pathetic joke.

Pomposity alert!
They added up the number of deaths by cop in each country. You don't need a PhD to do that, grade school math will suffice.
This disparity between the US and other countries is clear evidence of a chronic failure of law enforcement in this country to do their job properly
How much do you want to bet that this statistic is virtually identical to the level of disparity between the U.S. and other countries concerning violent crime?
In this case, do we want people to die so new York can have it's tax revenue?
No, which is why I spend so much time telling teenagers why it is stupid to resist arrest.
ARM,
I take your comment as non-responsive.
Is that a bell I hear? It's time to get back to home room. You don't want to go into life without graduating high school.
I regret wasting my time with you. If that sounds pompous ... !@%%##**
After viewing the "charts" suggested by a commenter on police shooting people in foreign countries I googled "kangaroos killed by police..." to see if I could come up with an amusing comment in response.
I got many links. Police in Australia have the duty to kill rampaging 'roos.
What struck me was the long list of commenters on the Australian stories complaining about the practices of the police.
Apparently (according to many commenters) police use improper weapons, they are too aggressive and cruel, etc.
Hmmmm......
PC qualification: My intent was not to compare American victims to kangaroos, but to show the irrelevance of comparing America to other countries. Hope this PC note doesn't result in knee injuries for leftist commenters.

So you don't mind having a government that is indistinguishable from the mob. Some people don't deserve freedom. Especially those that give it away freely.
It's circular, Achilles. Every time someone tries to represent that the place to change the system is not at the point of the cop's gun, you resume the Eric Idle Monty Python sketch: elp elp I'm being oppressed!
And yet at 6:46 you show perfect comprehension that the place to change the system is not at the muzzle of the cop's gun. Never mind wrong or right, for just a sec, how do you like your odds?
