It's stupid not to proofread, of course. So autocorrect isn't an excuse. But if the issue is how dumb is this guy, it shifts the question to how careless is this guy. But who thinks SW did the secretarial work on this letter?
Who thinks Scott Walker did the secretarial work on his letter?
No one with a brain does but it is setting the stage for let's see how stupid Republicans are. This is just like like Kasie Hunt from NBC asking Rick Perry "are you smart enough to be President?" Would she dare ask that question of Hilary or Elizabeth?
Get ready for many stories in the media about the idiot Republicans.
It's a good thing nobody else ever signs a document that goes out to a client or the court with a spellcheck-induced error. Nope, never happens in the legal profession.
But it is fun to laugh at our rulers. Something tells me Walker will handle it well.
More dumbing down of politics. Already no one was allowed to say anything dumb, so politicians don't say anything. Now they can't write anything dumb either. Not only now, they can't have written anything dumb anytime in their lifetime.
The only proper response to stuff like this is, Some of us take politics seriously. But you'll have to say that when people attack dumb mistakes by liberals as well.
Why couldn't he have done this on a smartphone? No voice to text in 2010?
Or he could have done it with voice recognition software on a PC like Dragon Dictate. In which case he is tech forward, has some appetite for risk, and can definitely blame the tech.
Bret Baier's Special Report just had this on their "Grape Vine" section. The audio identified the letter writer as Scott Walker, but here's what they had on the screen:
Thank you again and Molotov, Sincerely, Scott Brown
My daughters elementary school sent a letter home explaining why they were no longer going to call their break Christmas break, but rather winter break. It was because some people just like to shop this time of year (I kid you not) and Jewish people celebrate Hanakah also known as "the feast of lights." Yummy lights! Who doesn't like a good light this time of year? Mistakes happen.
I wonder what you'd have to type to get an autocorrect to Ribbentrop.
The Winter War was no joke, though, and if Norway and Sweden had let the French & British forces through to help Finland those same forces could have slowed down shipments of iron & materiel from Sweden to Germany...but who knows.
Mazel Tov! Mission Accomplished! Scott Walker has been othered. Romney had the dog, Rubio doesn't sip water with elan, who are we missing. Next up, Rick Santorum.
The stupid smart asses who are circulating this story apparently think that the only meaning of Molotov is Molotov Cocktail. That's like thinking that Jefferson refers to Jefferson Airplane. The weapon was named after a person, you anti-Walker goof balls, the foreign minister of the Soviet Union, who signed a treaty with Hitler's Germany. If you don't know that, you've got no business calling Scott Walker stupid.
Ah....laying the groundwork for "Scott Walker is a dunce because he never got a college degree." Walker apologists can blame auto-correct ala Althouse, but perhaps it was a crypto-warning to Jews not to mess about with Bolshevism again? Maybe he meant to flame them? Maybe he is a closet Democrat and his purpose is to keep Jews voting Democratic for another 40 years?

Why?
Autocorrect in a word doc?
"Autocorrect in a word doc?"
Word autocorrects.
It's stupid not to proofread, of course. So autocorrect isn't an excuse. But if the issue is how dumb is this guy, it shifts the question to how careless is this guy. But who thinks SW did the secretarial work on this letter?
My version of MS Word changes mazel tov to maze to.
Anyways, it's just funny.
Garage did this today in the CIA report post. I thought it was a joke.
Who thinks Scott Walker did the secretarial work on his letter?

I know one who can't stand to be laughed at.

Just wait until auto-correct corrects an Al Sharpton offering!!
Racism cards for all my friends!
A blasting on your head, Molotov, Molotov,
To see your daughter dead, Molotov, Molotov...
"My version of MS Word changes mazel tov to maze to."
Who knows what typo/misspelling was originally typed in?
If you want to pretend this is important

What's not to love?
I'd like a mazeltov cocktail, please.
Multi-million dollar John Doe investigation and this is the shiny piece of metal they found for the GrooberCrats?

We assume it's a mistake. Maybe it's a pun. Or a warning.
Please get on with the regular blog, Althouse. Nobody can Beria Stalin.
Maybe the hedgehog typed it.
The 2016 presidential election campaign starts at 1700 hours. Gentlemen, circumcize your watches.
garage, were you in the Madison courthouse last night ?
Speaking of Scott Walker, Wisconsin's per capita public debt is 4th lowest in the nation. Garage's favorite state of Minnesota is 29th.
I tried it on my iPhone, and Siri rendered it as "Thank you again and Mausel tall".
Tried it again with a little more "off" and got "Thank you again and Mousel Tov".
On the third try, Siri told me to "Mausel tall off"!
"garage, were you in the Madison courthouse last night ?"
No.
He could have been wishing his friend a happy celebration of the former Soviet foreign minister. Why is no one considering that?
MadisonMan,
If you're still here, I second your 4:39 comment, and its question.

I understand that auto-correct functionality is inoperative if Word is loaded on a secret server.
But only secret servers.
That are invisible.
The daily news item said that emails were uncovered.
What does the WORD programhave to do with email?
Google email does autocorrection
I wonder what you'd have to type to get an autocorrect to Ribbentrop.

Simo Haya was no joke.
No one with a brain does but it is setting the stage for let's see how stupid Republicans are.
Not really. It is a funny typo, especially since (these days) everyone's seen autocorrect goofiness.
If Democrats tried to use this as proof he's dumb, they'll just come across as out of touch.
I don't believe Scott Walker would make this as a non-typo/auto-correct mistake. Scott Brown though, yeah. I could see him wishing Jews "Molotov!"
Mazel Tov! Mission Accomplished! Scott Walker has been othered. Romney had the dog, Rubio doesn't sip water with elan, who are we missing. Next up, Rick Santorum.
Close enough. There were no corpses introduced in the pronunciation.

Idiots.
The etymology of molotov records it as derivative from the Russian word for hammer: molotok.

We are talking spelling here Garage. It can't correct your ideology (or mine.)
"MadisonMan said...

Easy. Because Walker won his third election for Governor in four years. And Act 10 is working. And job growth is up. And taxes are down.
Ah....laying the groundwork for "Scott Walker is a dunce because he never got a college degree." Much worse that Obama's bud Al Sharpton inciting more murders than Charles Manson including the Crown Heights lynching.
A few more such gaffes and Scott Walker will be qualified for vice president.
I love it. Before I clicked the link, I thought it was some Borscht Belt comedian's signoff line. Makes me want to vote for Walker.
Still not as funny as "tortoise interference" (vice tortuous interference), but clearly autocorrect strikes again.
---Google email does autocorrection----
But there’s no guarantee that it autocorrects correctly.
Aliens. It's also quite possible it was written by aliens...
