Nearly fifty years ago I was at a Richmond vs. WVU basketball game, and during a scramble for a rebound a foul was called. Everyone's attention went from the play to the official. The Richmond player who had ended up with the ball and was still holding it high over head. To express his displeasure he threw the ball backwards without looking and managed to hit a teammate in the groin. The unintentional target emitted a howl of pain and went down to one knee. When he howled all eyes went to him, but no one on the floor and precious few of us in the crowd saw what had happened, and amid the confusion the player who had originally thrown the ball and thus proved himself short tempered was looking around for one of our players to blame it on. Nothing more came of it, but it was simultaneously a demonstration of unintended consequences and how you can be unobserved in the midst of an arena. All eyes were elsewhere and didn't go the scene of the crime until the action was over.
As this was the days before video tape this didn't make U-Tube and I wonder if any of them ever figured out exactly what happened.

Dekker is a bit too reckless for my taste.
it was a million to one shot.
That was a hoot!
Do you realize how hard it is to propel a basketball by hitting it with your hand. It's not like a volleyball. Strong kid.
Spiking?
Too bad the game wasn't played in Madison where the City Council could pass a law against celebratory spiking.
Black guy hit by white guy: Hate crime.
