I love the look of burnt-out pumpkins...
... and it's surprising to see the occasional Scott Walker yard sign in our neighborhood, where nearly all the signs are for Mary Burke. But the truth is very few houses have signs. Perhaps people are tired of the turmoil. Burnt-out, like yesterday's pumpkins.

Impressive. Anyone who puts a GOP sign in front of their house in my neighborhood needs 24 hour security, unless they want their property vandalized.
The people without Burke signs are voting for Walker.
That's mighty bold talk for a one eyed Madison resident.
Does the Walker campaign, and its supporters, have the same reputation of sign theiving idiocy that the Democrat campaign has?
Have they, at last, no decency?
Student rental property?
"Engorged by the badgering in Wisconsin, pagan ennui sets in..."
Nice juxtaposition. The "we" as in "the pumpkins" are NOT standing.
My neighbor receives between 4 and 6 Amazon Prime boxes every day-I think that is excessive.
I find yard signs and bumper stickers (of all kinds) tacky.

My other car is a broom-horrible

I thought the same thing. Then I thought "students? Walker? Madison? No! Then I thought perhaps I was out of touch from my days there.
Titus is right. Yard signs and bumper stickers of all kinds are mostly tacky.
The only exception is a rock radio station bumper sticker covering a massive rust spot on a 1970 Monte Carlo. That's cool.
I live in a county that was in the top 3 for Walker vs. Barrett (+70%) and in the top 3 for turnout (+70%).
I have actually noticed more Burke signs than Walker signs this time around, and the Walker signs have just started appearing in a few places here and there. Before the recall, you couldn't look down a street or go more than a few houses before seeing another Walker sign. I am definitely not seeing or hearing the same passion as two years ago.
Supposedly the extra turnout in the top 3 counties accounted for the victory margin. If those counties have a less than extraordinary turnout (prediction is 58% statewide), I will be sweating the results Tuesday night.
Not being a "concern troll" - just my local observations.
@chickelit, my impression is that many undergrads are center to right of center. But they're not vocal.
I'm guessing that is not Garage's house.
Student rental property?
Definitely. Tallard Apt sign on it.

Since it seems to be a cafe, I thought you might like a laugh.
ISIS just executed another 50 men for the crime of being our allies before Obama abandoned them.
I am sure their sisters, wives, and daughters will be look after, however.
MadAsHell: That IS Garage's house. He's been trapped in the basement for the last six days because of that sign...

I have already voted in California. I would be happy to vote for Walker if one of you tells me how to do it. I have binders full of alias's
"Burnt-out, like yesterday's pumpkins."
Mary Burke was burnt-out. That's why she left Trek.
Purportedly.
Not saying she's yesterday's pumpkin.
Yet.
We have very few yard signs at election time except at the front of the addition where two houses had Obama signs in 2008. In 2012 they had the O signs again. A house sandwiched between them put out a Romney sign. Not long after the election the Romney house went up for sale. A coincidence I'm sure.
How soon after Walker is re-elected will the public sector unions begin the recall effort??
My hubby and rare clumber and I are heading out to the Berkshires tomorrow and then Northampton.
It is so refreshing to find a small town in the U.S that has a Kiehls store and vegan options. But you could also find those options in Stockbridge, Sturbridge, Williams and Adams.
Northampton, go, you will love it, lesbians for days and Smith College.
Even the small towns in Mass are liberal-so fab.
In rural Wisconsin you find fat people who are poor, dumb as shit, and eating deep fried shit...and smoking, natch. And bowling alleys-now you know why I left America's Dairyland. I wanted to be surrounded by people with brains.
kiss kiss.
We're surrounded by brains. Try googling Glorious Malones. It's better than fabulous. It's glorious.
I'll be happy when this election is over. I am damn tired of pulling up Walker signs.
And tits.
My assumption is that GOP yard signs persuade no-one.
They do identify and brightly mark those whom Democrats might like to harass, though.
In other words, yard signs are a provocative invitation to childish partisan property destruction. The upside can't justify them if you're a Republican.
Do they smell like...victory?
I must have missed something... When did the Professor go from being one of Crack's "good whites" to, apparently, the worst white lady on the planet. What happened that has him no longer here and his blog deleted from the blog roll?
Its been fun the past few days watching FiveThirtyEight's predictions slowly tilt in the direction of Republicans. Yesterday the probability of Republican control of the Senate surpassed the 70 percent mark for the first time.
I'm not particularly worried about Walker's election. I voted two Mondays ago and from what I can tell his support is at least the same as during the 2012 recalls. I just wish that more attention was given to the Attorney General elections; it boggles the mind that someone like Susan Happ could become AG.
That's mighty bold talk for a one eyed Madison resident.

Did you know that if you google fried clams, google helpfully supplies the additional search term of Boston?
I don't understand this whole adult fixation with Halloween thing. I mean, I got over it when I was about 13. That was before it became as commercialized as Christmas of course. Carving Jack-0-Lanterns could be therapy, I suppose, But afterward you just have a stinking mess on the porch. Living as I do, on a dead-end road off of a dead-end road, Never passed out candy to kids. They don't come down where the percentages don't pay.
I will give Massachusetts some credit for brains though, they did send Scott Brown to the Senate to deny Obama the 60 votes he needed for Obamacare. Whodathunk he would ram the bill he had through without debate or amendment and just claim the power to amend it after it passed unilaterally? I don't blame Mass for that, nobody would have thought it.
Well, Obama is toxic now in most of the country he was supposed to unite. So go figure...
BTW, how is the race for governor going there?
Oh yeah, and derisive comments from East Coast liberals aimed at middle America drive Republican turnout, so thanks for that Titus. But mostly, thank the ebola nurse in Maine!

On Friday night, Sept. 19, 2014, Republicans stormed through Monona stealing political campaign signs for Mary Burke and Mark Pocan.
Almost every sign in the City of Monona was stolen.
Speaking of stealing, I see titus is stealing my name. (9:05)
Figures. Dull and uninteresting comments.

The police have been informed but say they have no suspects.
In Wisconsin, stealing or defacing a political campaign sign is a misdemeanor.
Something needs to be done about this problem.

So they're "Reublicans" but the police have no leads.
It could have been someone that thinks fucking underage boys overseas isn't right. Or an anti-plagiarist. I would also check John Williams' garage and basement.
Igniis Fatuus: Soliloquy of a Pompon
Before the angled anger of first frost
We were afraid. The pumpkin sun brittled
Its mouth – and we turned to ghosts of old men
On turtled terra firma: wrinkled up,
Our flesh, antic in imposition,
And, cap-a-pie, seeded, pulped, and thick-stemmed
As September’s Indian summer dance.
At the first heavy mention of snow
Old youthful Clotho’s faithful distaff sang….
What beauty finds thee in thy blowzy busts?
Why haunt the autumn’s ruined porticoes?
How kisses nostalgia in thy fired heads?
The wind is blue and stings October with
Solemn countenances, flickery votives.
What starry plows had plucked from the gloaming,
The sienna-studded fields reveal in shards.
No arms to sing, we could not try to reach
The next day or next week; only month’s end
Can dwell as song in vegetable souls.
We were solitary, anodyne, hollowed-out.
We drank away the sun, and brown and grey
Imbibed the deepening landscape’s early dusk.
We spoke in candles, we prayed in gold –
We loved in windows – these, the mirrors
Soon stenciled with an early winter’s ire.
Serene, enduring, hushed – we grin to bear
The foolish light that makes our faces burn.
