"Art Official Age" comes across as a concept album diverted by second thoughts.... Amid... technical display, Prince sings about “a place in heaven far off in the future.” Soon, spoken-word interludes have him waking up from suspended animation 45 years from now, in a new culture where “there are no such words as me or mine.”.... Most of “Art Official Age” sticks to Prince staples: slow-motion seduction and dance grooves, though this time he makes a point of praising long-term romance...The possibilities right now, however, are — and these links go to Amazon — "Art Official Age" and "PlectrumElectrum." The quoted text above is from Jon Pareles's review in the NYT.
What constrains “PlectrumElectrum” is its rigorous, deliberately retro back-to-basics mandate. Prince at his best doesn’t just collect and recreate genres; he smashes them together. If Prince can meld the concision of “PlectrumElectrum” with the sonic imagination of “Art Official Age” — past plus future — the possibilities are wide open.

2 Prince albums, suddenly.
"'Art Official Age' playfully acknowledges the gleaming artificiality of current studio sounds, while 'PlectrumElectrum' flaunts the real-time muscle of vintage power-trio rock."

Went to read the review. Didn't get past the picture. Prince is a year younger than I am. His skin hasn't looked like that since 1967.
FINALLY.
Can't wait to see how the Blue Emu blames this on Obama
Time to check in with Frank Zappa, "Most rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read".
True enough Frank but Prince is a geneous.
Never really cared for his pop-funk style.
I'm more into alternative-rock like Radiohead. Deadly serious music.
I did put PlectrumElectrum on Spotify while I was doing some chores. Wasn't moved to turn it off, but nothing jumped out as a hit either.
"You don't have to watch 'Dynasty' to have an attitude."
In regard to music specifically, and all things generally, "different strokes for different folks".

We got to live together.
It's also the 30th Anniversary for Purple Rain.
breaking news: CDC now monitoring 100 cases of ebola
RecChief-
Do you have a link? I think it's much more likely that the CDC is monitoring 100 people who came in contact with the ebola guy, in case they became infected.
You're correct. I was wrong. They are monitoring 100 potential or possible contacts.
CNN
My apologies. I read a summary of a summary. I should have checked further before my post.
Agree with Bob R. Been a long drought for Prince I think. Nothing much since Diamonds and Pearls, and that was back in '91.
Leave it to the Blue Emu to not only bring in the buzzkill, but it wasn't even a truthful buzzkill.

Say, here is a quote from...me, that I have never seen you type:
"I was wrong"
By the way, I haven't paid much attention to Prince since Wendy and Lisa went out on their own, and see no reason to start now.
I was driving five 12 year old girls to a soccer game in Janseville on Sunday when the DJ played a song from one of these albums -- something like "Art Rock Funk" as I recall.
The kids were grooving and moving to the song. When I told them it was by a 50 year old, they were a little grossed out.

Funny, I was just looking up that song this morning in connection with a post I haven't written yet.
Doesn't Prince have a theatre in Branson?
Indifference. Suddenly.
. . . Blogger St. George said..."Doesn't Prince have a theatre in Branson?"
Ha! Good one. Made me LOL literally.
Not sure if Prince has done this, but The Drums have their new work up on youtube so you can listen before you buy!
Top notch work of art all around.

An Andy Williams for our time.
So he wakes up in the middle of Ayn Rand's "Anthem"; how droll.
