"Scott Walker hits Mary Burke again..."

A reader emails, noting the domestic violence imagery in the headline at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Intentional? Make your best guess.

Yes, the news agency responsible for splattering a stupid non scandal on their front page for days is trying to help Burke.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

There were three votes for "no."

Garage, you're only supposed to vote once.

Where's voter ID when you need it?

garage mahal म्हणाले...

Where's voter ID when you need it?

Ha. You don't need an ID to send Walker a 700k bribe, why do you need one to vote?

Michael म्हणाले...

I imagine that before the editor got into it the headline writer had it that Walker had repeatedly slapped the shit out of Burke. Or, Burke was beaten within an inch of her political life. Or, Burke has been yanked back by her hair by Scott Walker.

Michael म्हणाले...

Garage

I must say that looking in at Wisconsin politics and having the pleasure of you explaining the insider bits is a positive treat. I love every minute of it. I do.

My very favorite, better than the 700 grand bribe, was the secret server in Walker's office. Which morphed into a secret router when you found out what a server was. That was what they call comedy gold.

Thanks again. Really priceless stuff.

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

"Take your best guess" should clearly be "Take your best shot."

Remember when using target reticle clip art on a map was dangerous and partially to blame for a wholly unrelated shooting? Good times.

RecChief म्हणाले...

of course it's intentional

Eric the Fruit Bat म्हणाले...

I'm okay with this sort of imagery, presuming as I do that Ms. Burke demanded that Governor Walker hit her with his best shot, fire away.

At least he didn't drag her by the hair.

Most if not all the Dem women candidates are using that type of "abusing women" imaging to get votes.

I've been casually following the whole Scott Walker vs the entrenched establishment in Wisconsin for a couple of years now and it seems to me that something is terribly wrong in the Madison.

dreams म्हणाले...

Me too, so I googled Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Hazy Dave म्हणाले...

Without a doubt, they are not smart enough to write an evocative headline "intentionally".

Perhaps I'll revise my opinion if they use the word "choke" in any Wisconsin Supreme Court story headlines.

That's the sort of thing that would be done by someone who thinks they're smarter than they are, which does seem to fit the journal(sentinel)ism job description these days.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Why do you think there has been so much negative press regarding the NFL lately? The scene is being set. We will see more and more of this over the next couple of years. If you don't vote for Hillary in 2016, you will be considered an abuser of women. Not really so different from if you didn't vote for Obama, you're a racist.

Brando म्हणाले...

Too subtle!

Just photoshop their respective heads over a couple that is actually coming to blows. Make it absolutely clear that Walker is a wife-beater, who will marry Mary Burke just so he can beat her.

I didn't vote. But the fact that 95% of Althouse readers think the headline is a subliminal conspiracy theory to hurt Walker is pretty damn funny. Always the victim.

Drago म्हणाले...

garage: "We are looking more and more like the Southern state every day though."

Not even close. Southern states have much higher %'s of minorities and immigrants (legal and otherwise).

Your lily-white backwater "cosmopolitan" enclave is certain to remain exactly that.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Scott Walker hits girls! And if she is also a lesbian, then it's a hate crime.

Little wonder Walker has to hide by using the fake name John Doe.

Drago म्हणाले...

garage: "But the fact that 95% of Althouse readers think the headline is a subliminal conspiracy theory to hurt Walker is pretty damn funny."

Feel free to show your work for how you determined that 95% of Althouse "readers" think this is a conspiracy.

As far as the "conspiracy" is concerned, there's nothing secret about it. The dems are using violent imagery in their talking points to paint republicans as women beaters.

So, if it's not "conscious" on the part of the paper, it's just a coincidence that the headline dovetails perfectly with the dems chosen rhetoric at this time.

Just a coincidence.

Probably out of the Cincinnati office.

avwh म्हणाले...

You don't think this "war on women" meme just materialzes out of thin air, do you?

These Dems with bylines have to write stories and headlines all the time to remind low-info voters who the villains are.

OK. Garage how about, "Scott Walker tells the truth on Mary Burke again."

Even using the verb attacks would be a fair headline. But "hits Mary" is like reading The Onion.

In the matter of liberal "journalism" I was just treated to a BBC bit on NPR which dealt with D'Sousa's conviction and sentencing. In about three minutes he as described as a "right winger" six times. Michael Moore with whom he was compared was described as an Oscar winner.

Really. You could not make it more obvious if you tried.

How paranoid does one have to be in order to believe that the largest conservative newspaper in Wisconsin, which endorsed Scott Walker twice for Governor, is putting subliminal Anti-Walker messages into their headlines?

damikesc म्हणाले...

How paranoid does one have to be in order to believe that the largest conservative newspaper in Wisconsin, which endorsed Scott Walker twice for Governor, is putting subliminal Anti-Walker messages into their headlines?

I'll remind you that Democrats blamed Sarah Palin for the shooting of Giffords due to having crosshairs on her state as a target for a seat takeover.

If your side cannot live by its own inane standards, you might want to change your standards. Otherwise, why should we give you double standards?

Drago म्हणाले...

madisonfella: "How paranoid does one have to be in order to believe that the largest conservative newspaper in Wisconsin, which endorsed Scott Walker twice for Governor, is putting subliminal Anti-Walker messages into their headlines?"

LOL

Conservative!

And did we not just deal with this "endorsed twice" nuance just the other day?

Bottom line: the entire democrat party establishment has shifted it's rhetoric to link republicans with violence against women symbology and the largest newspaper in WI just happens, coincidently, totally independently, to have it's headline writers create headlines that align perfectly with the dems latest rhetorical tact.

Nothing to see here folks.

Journolist was a fiction as well, wasn't it?

अनामित म्हणाले...

I'll remind you that Democrats blamed Sarah Palin for the shooting of Giffords due to having crosshairs on her state as a target for a seat takeover.

Yes, that is another example of whacked out crazy people acting crazy. Why are you trying to emulate that behavior?

If your side...

If I am responsible for everything said by everyone who has ever disagreed with your opinions then you are responsible for the threats against voters being made by this militia group, and many many other words and actions by those who have a different opinion than mine.

अनामित म्हणाले...

So the latest spin is that the MJS didn't actually endorse Scott Walker for Governor in two separate elections?

BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Better tighten down that tin foil hat Drago before the "entire democrat party establishment" shifts their invisible mind control beams towards you.

Drago म्हणाले...

madisonfella: "Why are you trying to emulate that behavior?"

Could you expand your thoughts as to why noticing clear alignment in rhetoric between the dem party establishment and newspapers is equivalent to accusing someone of murder who had nothing to do with that act?

Thanks in advance for no coherent response.

Drago म्हणाले...

madisonfella: "So the latest spin is that the MJS didn't actually endorse Scott Walker for Governor in two separate elections?"

No.

In fact, the last time this issue was raised I was the one who pointed out that the 2 endorsements was technically true.

As Ann pointed out (as did other posters), the fact that the second endorsement was in response to the recall and not the normal election cycle did in fact constitute a different sort of endorsement qualitatively.

I believe that the paper pointed out that the recall was inappropriate and for that reason alone the second endorsement was proffered.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Theme:
Mary Burke
Won't Work.

See, first she steals her families great reputation created by building up a business while she snowboarded
Implies she's business friendly

Then she plans to steal Scott Walker's work building up a state with a balanced budget
Suggests she won't change Act 10

Then she outright plagiarizes her "economic plan" from work done by consultants in other states for other politicians.

As governor, she'd have to work for the people of Wisconsin. She doesn't know how to work (a natural-born lefty of these times.)

Drago म्हणाले...

madisonfella: "Yes, that is another example of whacked out crazy people acting crazy."

You are no better than they are.

अनामित म्हणाले...

yet Walker is responsible for people he has no association with.

Who said that Walker was personally responsible for that militia group?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Also damikesc, couldn't help but notice that in a different thread you said that the militia group was "alleged" to have made plans to intimidate voters. Yet you didn't say that Walker "allegedly" has no association with that group, and instead made the very definitive claim that there is no association between the man and the group.

Given how carefully you choose your words, I have to ask if you know the Governor personally.

RecChief म्हणाले...

kcom म्हणाले...

"I voted no because this is a headline construct that has been used in politics previously."

But who was the hitter and who was the hittee (hitee?) in those headlines?

If (and I stress "if") the media has one set of headlines for Dem politicians and one for Republicans that doesn't mean just because it was used before it's not intentional and not used selectively.

In fact, I would draw your attention to the ongoing curiosity (documented on numerous blogs over the years) of party affiliation often being absent or mentioned many paragraphs down in a story when the scoundrel in question is a Democrat but prominently featured at the top when it's a Republican. There's lots and lots of ways to steer things in the direction you want.

Drago म्हणाले...

madisonfella: "You are no better than they are."

LOL

yeah. You are in the "middle" alright.

Because I happen to notice that another supposedly unbiased media organ has decided that it's cool to adopt the dem rhetorical talking point strategm I'm "no better" than those who purposely libeled a politician by claiming she was directly responsible for an attempted murder.

Yeah, that sounds equivalent.

Too funny.

Your "equivalence" tactic is precisely what someone in the middle would not do.

QED

अनामित म्हणाले...

You're the one who first made the comparison Drago, not I.

Will you tell us some more about how the entire democrat party establishment has total control over the very same newspaper that endorsed Scott Walker twice for Governor or are you just going to try and distract everyone with the whole recall elections don't count when it comes to endorsements squirrel again?

अनामित म्हणाले...

No, you're too far left to be within eye sight of the middle.

It is easy to tell when you are cornered and desperate, because you start using pages from the Alnkinski playbook. I'm sure he would be really proud of the way you constantly try to personalize and polarize the targets.

And it doesn't matter how many different names you post under while making your accusations. You are still wrong about knowing me.

I ALSO didn't say Walker wasn't allegedly a member of the Communist Underground, either. I will comfortably say he isn't.

There is zero evidence even remotely attempting to be presented to tie him to this group, so I lack the time to address all insane hypotheticals.

Meanwhile, the evidence presented of this militia's "threat" are Facebook posts, which is almost adorable that people buy that as proof.

अनामित म्हणाले...

So damikesc says that public threats to do something means nothing at all.

But then again, outside of his posts, there is zero evidence that damikesc actually exists. So why listen to him anyways?

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Our feminism looks like an end to police repression of minority communities, access to quality public schools that do not expel our children for minor infractions, and an end to the prison industrial complex, which locks up far too many of our men and women, fracturing families and creating further economic burdens when our loved ones are released. We need comprehensive healthcare and access to abortion clinics, but we also need a robust mental health care system, that can address long centuries of racist, sexist, sexual and emotional trauma. We need equal pay, yes. But we also need good jobs, rather than being relegated to an endless cycle of low-wage work.

White women’s feminisms still center around equality, a point on which Traister and Shulevitz converge. Black women’s feminisms demand justice. There is a difference. One kind of feminism focuses on the policies that will help women integrate fully into the existing American system. The other recognizes the fundamental flaws in the system and seeks its complete and total transformation.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

I think that "complete and total transformation" should include white Wisconsin politicianss with racist staff.
