Johnny Carson learns the word "bustier" from Madonna, who presents herself "as a virgin" to him.
And here's Boy George's first time:

If you read bombastic Bushkin's biography of Carson, you learn just how unhappy and lonely the man was.
Bushkin, his attorney, was his best friend.
That alone is pretty sad.
Can't be Madonna, she doesn't have a British accent.
That Boy George interview was pretty good. I think Carson as an interviewer is still the gold standard for late night hosts.
Not sure if I buy the Bushkin tale of Carson being so unhappy. He just seemed to be a loner by choice, and somewhat of an introvert even though he was on television.
There is a fantastic epsisode about Carson's life on American Masters (PBS). His biggest issue was his mother, who withheld approval from him his entire life.
George was surprisingly intelligent (at the age of 22) and Carson stayed with him for a long time. He had to get the music cue to leave for the first break and stayed with him for another long segment.
If you didn't watch the whole thing: You missed the 2 men gesturing together about Dolly Parton's breasts and George singing "Fly Me to the Moon" in the style of Frank Sinatra.
Great Videos. Both entertainers extremely gifted and intelligent. Not to mention, beautiful !!
ummm....Which one is Madonna?
I've never found Madonna very attractive and, let's face it, she is a mediocre talent as a singer.
But I will give her this:
She, not James Brown, is the hardest worker ever in Show Biz. She clawed her way to the top by grit and determination and for that she has my admiration.
I can't help but think how hideously ugly Madonna was back then. She looked older then than she does now.
I'm reading Bushkin's Bio right now.
I was too young when Carson retired to remember watching him live, but I do remember thinking that Leno and Letterman were a notch below. Watching old Carson interviews only cements that impression.
His conversation with Boy George is wonderful. I could watch another hour of the two of them talking, and I don't much care for Boy George.
Bushkin and Carson fell out, so Bushkin is not an entirely unbiased commentator.
Madonna and Boy George:
Two people who steal liberally from blacks to make their "art."
That's white fashion iconography for you,...
Notice blacks don't make this? Has Ann ever made a black fashion post?
Everybody copies us - not the other way around I might add - but it's whites who are always claimed to be the shit.
Pure insanity,...
Two people who steal liberally from blacks to make their "art."
Is there an artist alive that doesn't steal from others to make their art?
Carson was a true artist -- from whom did he steal to get where he was?
From which Black Artist did Stephen King steal?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Crack Emcee: "Everybody copies us - not the other way around I might add..."
Done much beheading lately?
Stephen King's use of the Magical Negro is Legendary.
Blacks invented the word "bustier".
And badonkadonk.
eddie willers,
"And badonkadonk."
Dude, "badonkadonk" is a damned good word,...
Blacks invented "dudes".
