The tan or cream suit is kind of tricky though. Usually worn by slightly sinister second leads - think Burl Ives in "Our Man in Havanna", or Strother Martin or Lee J. Cobb.
I'm betting he wore it to convey the idea that he's still in Summer, we are all still in the laid-back, hard to get the Pentagon on the phone cuz they're all at the beach house, don't expect too much right now because we are already busy working when everyone else is on vacation, we'll have an answer for you next week after the holiday, summer mode.
And then he said he had no idea what to do about Iraq and Syria, but he was going to ask the generals for advice on it just as soon as everybody gets back from Labor Day.
Man, you don't ask the generals about what to do; You tell them what you want done, and then just perhaps ask for advice on how to get it done.
Washington D.C. in the summer is a hot, humid, air-borne sewer. Accordingly, in the summer it is traditional for men to wear (a) lightweight tan suits (wool or cotton) or (b) blue + white striped poplin suits. President Obama gets a fashion pass on this one.
"I also noticed that he failed to wear a tie during the James Foley press conference."
-- This kind of bothered me; so does the whole shirt sleeves up, neck unbuttoned look.
I was always told to dress the for the part I wanted. I was told at one job that the company president didn't expect us to wear a suit and tie because he did; he wore it as a sign of respect for those he was working with, even if he was just coming in for five minutes.
It was saying: Your time is valuable enough that I should look professional and put in effort.
I hate wearing a tie; I hate taking the extra time to make sure everything matches just so before I go out the door. But, it's these little non-verbal cues that help people know that A) I care; B) I'm a team player.
The reaction to this suit is beyond absurd. I suppose from Obama's point of view, anything that draws attention away from his inability to govern is a plus, but I doubt he planned this silliness.
Well maybe now the constant twittering about what hairstyles female politicians have will seem less offensive, since the idiots worry about the color f the President's suit, too.
It's the story I've told before about the law professor who, as each matter comes up, assigns some students to do some research, then they have a meeting, then they circulate memos, eventually maybe they do something or take a position.
The suit may have looked good on him, but it is not what the President should wear for a "news conference" at a time like this, and then say "We have no strategy, but I will ask the generals for one as soon as I get back after Labor Day", and then take off for more fundraisers, etc.
W. was frequently accused of being stupid and tone-deaf, but he would never have pulled anything like this.

I did notice the tan suit when I looked at the video of the press conference. Actually it looked great on him.
He's better served if people respond to his suit than to the comments he made.
I also noticed that he failed to wear a tie during the James Foley press conference. He just doesn't care anymore. He hates his job.
Actually, I liked it. It was different than the run of the mill Dark Blue. And that is the ONLY thing I have ever said about BO that I liked.
He actually looks pretty good in it.
The tan or cream suit is kind of tricky though. Usually worn by slightly sinister second leads - think Burl Ives in "Our Man in Havanna", or Strother Martin or Lee J. Cobb.
Well, at least he has a strategy.
Did you know President Obama has no plan to address the emerging problems in the world?
Russian invasion of Ukraine? No plan.
IS/ISIS/ISIL as a well-financed international terrorist organization? No plan.
Who gives a shit about pants? Idiots and star fuckers.
Looks like he's about to audition to be an ESPN anchor.
Not a fan of the tan suit.

You know who else looked good in a tan suit?
As if the suit is important.
His advisors must love all this nonsense chatter about what he wears. That way there's less deserved criticism of the policies themselves.
Did you know President Obama has no plan to address the emerging problems in the world?
@Birkel: This^^^ That's the news out of this press conference, not his suit (although I did notice the lack of tie the other day).
Next time Obama should wear a polka-dot vest, tan shoes with pink shoelaces, and a big panama with a purple hat band.
We can give him a new nickname -- Dooley.
He apparently has just as much strategy about what to wear as he does to what to do with ISIS.
[Also, I like the suit.]
Not just no PLAN, no STRATEGY at all.
That was the purpose of the tan suit.. I'm beginning to think Barry's critics are as dumb as his foreign policy team.
I love that movie.
No. Does this affect the women's vote?

This distracts the LIVs from the horrid mess he is making of the Presidency.
He's planning his second career, staring blacksploitation movies.
The reaction to this suit is beyond absurd. I suppose from Obama's point of view, anything that draws attention away from his inability to govern is a plus, but I doubt he planned this silliness.
The tan suit would be fine if it fit and if it was matched with a blue shirt and a less bland tie. Otherwise not so great.
He does not have a strategy. ISIL does, however, have one.
Well maybe now the constant twittering about what hairstyles female politicians have will seem less offensive, since the idiots worry about the color f the President's suit, too.
I liked the tan suit. The only problem is that it was empty.
He could pull off that suit if the background were different. It clashes with the background.
We do not have a strategy

I do not know what the F I'm doing.

Sometimes you have to know something.
"I liked the tan suit. The only problem is that it was empty."
That was a joke that you needed to make within 2 minutes of Obama stepping up to the lectern.
Unless you're offering up an entry for "The New Dictionary of Received Ideas" under Obama's tan suit.

Criticism of somebody's old, probably lame joke? Teh Awesome. (spelling intended)
Voting for Obama even once? Reflects a naiveté that is somewhere south of teh awesome. (spelling intended)
Disgusting.
Luckily, before and during Labor Day, nothing bad will happen -- so who needs a strategy?
Remember folks, we still have over TWO YEARS of this dweeb for a president.
In two years the whole middle east can become ISIS and all of Eastern Europe a part of what Putin calls, "New Russia."
I'm waiting to see when China will invade her neighbors and claim the China Sea as their lake.
But don't worry, Obama will have a 'strategy' one day, sooner or later, just in time, and right after his next vacation.
I noticed the suit was baggy. Has Obama lost weight? Is he using cocaine again?
"That was a joke that you needed to make within 2 minutes of Obama stepping up to the lectern. "
Wild horses could not make me listen to that man.
I use the term "man" advisedly as Joan Rivers said he was gay and had a cardiac arrest the next day.
Obama as Zoolander, and he cannot turn right.
