Men in Shorts...

... alert!

I say "alert"... and yet... alluring.

From the comments:
You know, it’s rediculous clothes like these that turn strait guys off from fashion! They take one look, and it’s like “oh please” and go back to there jeans and t shirts.
And:
Well now, I’m straight and I think these are great clothes. When I was young I was a first generation punk in 1976, people laughed at me in the street and shouted abuse just because of the way I looked. If lots of homophobic straight men prefer to stay in boring jeans and t-shirts then surely that’s their problem. And don’t forget, many straight fashion trends started out on the gay scene – tattoos, piercing and yes, even jeans and t-shirts have been resurrected by gays when they were out of fashion. Wearing interesting clothes just takes a little imagination!

The guy looks embarrassed (or angry) in every shot.

A real man's point is that you have to be able to throw everything you wear into the same laundry load every three weeks.

No colors, patterns, and so forth.

White tee-shirts, white socks, beige trail shorts.

Gradual discoloring from iron in the water is tolerated.

Very 50's cabana wear...

The clothes are not gay. They are prissy and effeminate.

That sort of silliness should remind us all that "fashion" and "style" are entirely different things.

Hate the clothes on display, but I'd like a closer look at the woman in the pretty dress and heels in the front row. It's not clear what she was looking at

Gay or straight, you better be young and thin to wear this stuff. Macho types of either sexual persuasion need not apply.

Krumhorn,

"Hate the clothes on display, but I'd like a closer look at the woman in the pretty dress and heels in the front row. It's not clear what she was looking at"

Only one person in the photo is looking at the clothes:

That should tell you all you need to know,...

Call me a spelling Nazi, but it's ridiculous to keep spelling it "rediculous".

Oy!!!!

Ok, **breathing deeply** so..... what ensemble would Althouse like for Meade......? I see him in the very chocolate_y nos. 1&3 with the no 6. flower power jacket as alternate.

If they're machine-washable, I'll consider them, once they're marked down to a reasonable price.

The palette is one that looks good with my skin tone.

Do the riders in the Tour de France at least have your imperial dispensation to wear shorts freely and without guilt ... ?

So it's homophobic now to not want to look like a gay fashionisto?

MaxedOutMama म्हणाले...

Gay men won't wear those clothes. Hell no.

I can only really see these as a hit among prep school girls and NYC young women.

Odd.

So now the cool kids are all dressing like Chandler on Friends?

I like the prints. Some would make beautiful drapes, especially the one in #5 for a guest room.

I thought knee length shorts were out.

is there something larger going on here? The general trends in apparel, not just "fashion" but the common daywear of the typical shmendrick on the street is approaching shark jumping territory. What with all the beanies, oddball caps, weird shorts etc most days it looks like it's halloween or the circus is in town. As far as these guys go, all they need is the nose and some floppy shoes. Maybe a big fuzzy wig

That first guy looks a lot like how I look when I walk my dog in the morning.

But I don't call it "fashion," I call it, "what's closest."

Adult men only wear shorts when hiking or engaging in similar outdoor activities. Little boys can wear shorts wherever they want.

Everyone who is looking down at the fashion in the linked post should watch this scene:

The clothes you see on runways are more about color, pattern, and exaggerated versions of types of cuts that would be eventually available ready-to-wear.

I'm sure a lot of men posting on this own cargo pants and consider that "normal" and not gay or crazy fashion. But you can thank Ralph Lauren sending silk cargo trousers down the runway in 1998 for the cargo trend of the late 90s that has become a staple for dudes and bros everywhere.

Mama told me not to wear clothes that clash. I did, one day to class. It was black/white hounds tooth pants, with a black/white squiggly flowers shirt and a black/white Glen Plaid sports coat. I also had on a brightly colored psychedelic flower tie. The teacher sent me to the principals office. The principal saw a neatly dressed student in coat and tie (in 1967!) and sent me back to class, unscathed
