Neil Patrick Harris, "licking Samuel L. Jackson’s eyeglasses and giving a lap dance to Sting."

Things you missed — and I missed — by not watching the Tony awards show last night.

Maybe this is why people frown on homosexuality??

Hate crimes against heterosexuals and tantrics.

...by some definitions of the word "missed".

And are glad about it,...

I missed New York theater trying to claim its country-wide importance? Oh well.

On the bright side, the weather yesterday was phenomenal. Today too. I guess I have that as solace, while I weep bitter tears over New York's superiority.

Things that make me not regret lacking TV. Thankful for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I never saw the original stage version of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, mounted Off Broadway in 1998, starring its creator and writer John Cameron Mitchell in the title role, but I did see the 2001 movie, also starring Mitchell, and it is GREAT.

Yeah, I like the movie "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," and the small original theater production was probably great, but there's something so off-putting about the big Broadway shows and these TV awards things are so striving and desperate. Ironic that a show about a small thing — the angry inch — has to be so overbearingly large. And I loathe this staged play with audience members. Obviously, Jackson had to agree in advance to having his glasses licked, but we're supposed to be entertained by the "surprise" and the surprise is disgusting: licking glasses. It's gross to get assaulted by someone licking you and it's gross to lick eyeglasses. Anyone ever count the germs on eyeglasses? Did he lick the frames or the lenses? Whichever… I don't want to see that. And lap dancing? That asks us to laugh at what is in reality the commercial degradation of women. I call misogyny, even where it's a man pretending to be the degraded woman.

Really? You thought that was good music?

Here's a condensed version that's much better,...

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

Yes, Crack, I thought it was very good music...and a good story.

Here's some more good music:

Didn't watch it.

I never watch the Emmys, Oscars, Tonys, or Golden Globes. New York and Hollywood despises people like me and my values, and they use these fora to stick their artistic thumbs in my eye.

Much as I like Hugh Jackman, the Bobby Van version of that dance was better. http://youtu.be/mtlHjso3LHA

It was just the other night I first saw the episode from the fourth season of Arrested Development where they called Neil Patrick Harris "Hollywood's Number One Fake Homo" or something like that.

Hilarious, in context.

It could have been the episiode dedicated to Maeby -- I was pretty drunk.

"...I call misogyny..."

Very perceptive comment. Homosexual males practically invented misogyny. Heterosexual men manifest a sexual frustration that becomes sublimated to their pursuits. I don't know what the correct word is, maybe sexism.

I watched about twenty minutes of the Miss America pageant, and all I could think, was, why is a cadaver co-hosting with Thomas Roberts? Juliana, tatelah, please eat something.

Lunt and Fontanne were gay as can be and even they rolled in their graves at what Broadway has become.

Samual L. Jackson? I thought it was Laurence Fishburne.

Martha म्हणाले...

Somewhat chagrined to admit I watched the Tony award show and thought that was co-star Lena Hall -- not Neil Patrick Harris -- performing as Hedwig.

Stomach upset, avoided. Lack of interest, knob set to 11.

I realized I was watching the Tonys with the exact same interest as watching a National Geographic channel special on some tribal people in some far-off dark continent who still use blow darts to bring down their game and paint their bodies in weird designs and incorporate clicking sounds in their language. What a strange and amazing world, I think, what would it be like to live there??

...and, in related news, somewhere in America, a humanities professor bemoans the hegemony of the STEM fields (science, tech, engineering, math) and is befuddled by the loss of respect for the arts.

Watched it. Kinda reminiscent of Courtney Love:

I don't think NPH is that skilled of a drag queen compared to, say, '70s Tim Curry, but you have consider the context, which is that Neil Patrick Harris is currently much beloved of a certain demo. It's Neil deGrasse Tyson and Neil Patrick Harris all day, all the time: the new, two-headed Mr. Rogers for the Reddit demographic.
