"For the Annals of Narcissism: "Actually, I feel sorry for him... Maybe, if he had a taken the time to listen to me over the years, maybe he’d be a little smarter than he is..."

"... and be a little less ignorant and maybe he’d have a few more friends. He likes to live in his own little bubble. In all seriousness, what I’ve heard about Cruz is that he knows himself and nobody else, basically."

It takes one to know one, they say.

The quote is from Representative Peter King.

I guess King has found his ticket onto the Good Republican lecture circuit.

Only a state as blue as NY could a Peter King be a Republican. Cruz just isn't playing the RINO games and that irritates King.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

I know you are but what am I?

Nice to see that Cruz won't be baited.

What a thoroughly loathesome shit Peter King is.

I love hearing the establishment Republicans saying that "Tea Party" should fall in and stop attacking them...while they do little else themselves.

Narcissism....so what else is new. Endemic in DC.

Sigh. The things one has to do & say to run as a Republican in the NYC area.

Hate Ted Cruz.

Hate Ted Cruz....

Mr. Smith, the ignorant stupid head that no one likes, goes to Washington.

King does a fine Harry Reid impression.

Tank म्हणाले...

King is the kind of guy who is often unintentionally funny.

Peter King, our go-to guy for political leadership. Why do I suspect he has an "I-love-me" wall as big as John McCain's?

Bob Boyd म्हणाले...

So in Washington,a nest of vipers, Ted Cruz just doesn't seem to fit in?
Got it.

bleh म्हणाले...

And Cruz is the one who's been exhibiting "smug arrogance"? Peter King is a funny dude.

Heyooyeh म्हणाले...

Kind of can't wait for Althouse to go full anti-Cruz when his cult if personality goes up against Scott Walker's cult of personality in 2016.

Good gracious. Attacks of narcissism seem to be all the rage in Washington these days. I'd argue that the plague of narcissism starts in the Oval Office, but in reality, that disease has been endemic on the banks of the Potomac for many years.

Thoughts about people who live in glass houses are hardly in a position to throw stones come to mind.

I'm Full of Soup म्हणाले...

That is funny since I view King as a prototypical smug New Yorker who thinks he is way smarter than he really is.

damikesc म्हणाले...

Given most Congresspeople's personalities, I wouldn't want to know them either.

An IRA apologist doesn't seem like somebody I'd want to know.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Ted Cruz, saying he doesn't know who Peter King is, is revealing - everybody into politics knows who Peter King is. He's the loud guy who's been deserving of a dunce cap more times than we can count. You could say he's a fool.

But Cruz, a truly loathsome creature, plays us for fools.

The Right's Dr. Oz., he's just trying to bring a little hope. False hope, cynically hidden behind admirable concepts, like "principles" - you can't lose those. But you can lose everything else. Look around. How's it going? There's sirens outside my door.

Until that stops, it'll be a slow drip, drip, drip, but white supremacy will give - it always has. And Ted Cruz's promises, that the stewardship he'd bring to the party (that began as "Lincoln and his Black Republicans") would result in anything but catastrophe, will be laughable. Face palm stuff.

Anyway, I give this one to King. They both suck, but at least, in his own mind, King thinks Cruz has a right to exist,...

Both Cruz and King are unlikeable personalities.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Maybe, if he had a taken the time to listen to me over the years, maybe he’d be a little smarter than he is and be a little less ignorant and maybe he’d have a few more friends.

If you tried to have a narcissistic character in a movie say this, some people would accuse you of writing too on the nose.

Professional... or perhaps it's political... envy.

gadfly म्हणाले...

In case you haven't noticed, our least conservative comment writer on the Althouse blog (with a website of his very own) doesn't like Ted Cruz - a politician from the largest minority in America.

So the question before the house is: "Does a minority's hatred of another minority represent racism?"

Likeability is over rated. Superficially, Obama is likeable. He's incompetent as hell but people seem to like him. I'd rather have a president that's competent and has a Press that isn't sucking up to him to keep him honest.

Christy म्हणाले...

Are either Cruz or King as disliked as John Adams was?

Besides, hasn't Obama taught us to expect that relentlessly likeable politicians are worthless?

hombre म्हणाले...

“Whether you like somebody or dislike somebody, you want to know who the players are,” King said.

King is a player? Who knew? What's he playing at here?

As for Cruz acknowledging him in a restaurant, when I was a politician I acknowledged everyone whether I knew them or not. It's good politics. Attacking a member of your own party is not, unless you are a Republicrat, apparently.

Cruz is doing what he was elected to do: make waves.

King is doing what beltway hacks do: fight for the status quo.

crack: "You could say he's a fool."

LOL

I wonder if Peter King ever wondered aloud that increasing the population of Guam could tip it over?

Which rocket scientist said that?

Well, it wouldn't take too many guesses to come up with answer. Still, to help you out:

2 minutes and 48 seconds of pure pain.

I especially love the response of the Admiral who has to listen to this lunatic.

And yet...compared to crack, ol Hank comes off as a modern day Gallileo!

To paraphrase Animal House: "Congratulations, Johnson. You're at the top of the Congressional Black Caucus class?

Johnson is still smarter than Boxer though. I'll give him that much.
