The slim edge of Clay Aiken.

He has it in the North Carolina primary.

(And speaking of yesterday's primaries, congratulations to The Elder!)

Is it wrong of me to think of the Drudge headline: Aiken beats Crisco?

PS - Will be an interesting election this year in that district.

I don't know too much about Aiken politically, but I'm encouraged that a 35 year old defeated a 71 year old backed by the establishment.

I have no idea whether that district will even be a competitive race, but some new blood on both sides is sorely needed.

@President Mom-Jeans, Aiken will be running against Rene Ellmers. She is a former surgical nurse who entered politics in 2010 in protest against what she presciently forsaw would be the impact of ObamaCare on her patients. Despite her incumbency I think she counts as "new blood." I have sent her campaign contributions and intend to do so again. Please take a look at her biography and see whether you wouldn't like to do the same.

The American Idol guy can go party with the MTV Real World Guy [Duffy].

You get the Congress you deserve, apparently.

I can't help but wonder if there's some subtle gay meaning in your post title. The "slim edge"? Does that mean something?

@BigMike - I contributed to Rene as well, and will again. She's precisely the kind of citizen legislator we need. And, bless her, she hasn't acquired a lot of DC polish (yet).

IIRC, she was supposed to lose big time last time.

If I lived in the district I would vote for Rene Ellmers.

I would say that being in congress only two terms and being less than 50 (judging from her photo on the link you provided) qualifies as new blood.

The medical background is also a big plus in my opinion.

The only thing I see from clay Aiken is a push for gay marriage. What else do I know about his politics? My guess, standard liberal

I think Aiken looks like a young Lindsey Graham.

I am generally anti-incumbent. Not having been in politics before getting into office gains you a couple terms' dispensation. Ellmers seems to meet that criteria, so my knee-jerk reaction to vote her out would be checked, and I'd look more carefully at how she and her opponents differ on policy.

How great for that district that they seem to get to pick between two non-career politicians! How different from the WI 2nd Congressional District.

Why let that stop you?

Wow. Some progressive you are.
