Weirdly cold in Atlanta too.

Get used to it! Let us know when the glaciers come across Lake Mendota.

Football weather. Hmmm. I suspect Johnny Manziel has attracted the Football Weather gods to northern Ohio. It works like the Jet Stream does when Al Gore approaches.

Speaking of odd weather, how hard has your local paper pushed the latest climate report on its front/home page?

Here is a headline that ran prominently for three days, now downgraded to "below the fold": "How Washington coastal cities will look when the Antarctic Ice Sheet melts."

http://blog.seattlepi.com/bigscience/2014/05/14/how-washington-coastal-cities-will-look-when-the-antarctic-ice-sheet-melts/#23379101=0

However, the captions switch gears and use language that uses "if" the oceans rise. Its a sure thing in terms of the scare-mongering headline...not such a sure thing once you read.

Hot, hot, hot here in Temecula, California, north and east of San Diego. Lots of smoke in the sky. Where there is fire, there is smoke, but do not be misled by the television coverage that makes it look like the entire southern part of the state is ablaze. So far the fire has burned out about 15 square miles. San Diego County alone has about 4500 square miles. Twenty two houses have been destroyed. Tough on those immediately affected but of very little consequence to the larger community.

The most striking thing about this part of California remains the prosperity. Business, military and educational spending are vast, as is the population. The reports of California's demise are very premature, methinks.

Not in Laguna Niguel. Another day of 100 degrees. Big fires, too. But el nino is coming this winter.

"If El Niño returns, the American West and Southwest could see major relief next winter from the long-lasting, punishing drought," said climatologist Bill Patzert, who has been studying El Niño via satellite for two decades from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. "Further, the very frigid winter in the upper tier of the U.S this past winter could do a flip to mild next winter."

Of course the lefties will blame it all on global whateveritis.

Yes. Getting pretty tired of the Madison weather this year! The leaves aren't even out yet. It was good for mowing the lawn though.

Wait'll morning.

Definitely climate change.

Meanwhile, Norwegians around the world are gearing up to celebrate 17 May (syttendemai). Happy 200th to my Norwegian homeland, which is almost as good as Texas.

Will Richardson म्हणाले...

Global climate disruption.

Bobber Fleck म्हणाले...

@mesquito -- Bob Wills is still the king.

Locals around Madison will claim Windy Whitford (of the Goose Island Ramblers) is still the king. There's still no Norwegians in Dickeyville...

It's the global warming. We're all gonna die.

Cuz people around Seattle don't go to church, but they do celebrate impending disaster, and insist we all heed their warning.

oh, yeah....nobody reads the PI. Why are you reading it??

We got at least 2 inches of rain today and going down to high 40's tonight here in Philly area.

""How Washington coastal cities will look when the Antarctic Ice Sheet melts."

It's not melting. The shelf collapsed because of the increase in ice.

Shhhh Don't tell the lefties.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

There is weather disruption from Global Cooling. since Sun Spots minimum began.

So why do intelligent men pretend to fear Global Warming from an innocent Plant food gas. Or do we plan to pass laws requiring the Sun to reactivate the solar flares again which at least makes logical sense.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Barack Obama is pushing Global Warming. There is snow in Chicago in May. Madison just got caught in the cross-fire.

Coincidence? I think not!

I hereby renounce my atheism. God exists, and she has a sense of humor.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@mesquito, Norway is nowheres near as good as Texas. Norwegians eat lutefisk. Texans eat barbequed brisket and chicken-fried steak.

Case closed.

I had to do this at ace.mu.nu yes you read it: the Ace of Spades HQ.

I wanted here, myself, me and my own (previous to the sharing now) thoughts and motivations to supercede any concept of "I" or "myself" or "me" or "my" or "own*" or "thoughts (when referring to me and NO whatnot: ME ALONE. NO WHATNOT. I WILL REPEAT IT AGAIN WITH GRAMMAR MADE UP:::::: wHAT NOT NONE!!!!!"

*if you weren't dumb you'd understand this joke. Ha.

I need my daily fix of Grand Theft Auto V inspired I-5, I-405 mayhem. Although KOMO does a better job, generally, than the PI. I would put good money on the fact that the person who decides what goes on the KOMO homepage is a GTAV fanatic.

The entertainment value of local news sites can't be beat.

The Seattle Times ran similar scare inducing headlines; one even had a red, bold "Update!" designation, as if late breaking, definitive new scientific evidence had just been hand delivered to the Times.

Cold and rainy in germany. A year since a tsunami flood encapsulated cities in bavaria due to heavy rains.

Fritz म्हणाले...

Oh, the oceans are rising all right, just very slowly, and with no sign of any increase in response to "global warming". You can get the NOAA records easily enough on line. Here's Seattle's:

At 2 mm a year, it will take a while.

Here is a theory of global climate that might make some sense....

Changes in the levels of solar wind emanating from our sun to different degrees deflect interstellar cosmic rays hitting the Earth. The more cosmic rays that get through, the more clouds that form, and the cooler the Earth. In recent history, the Sun's been more intense, thus a warmer Earth.

This is the belief of physicist and cosmoclimatologist Henrik Svensmark (Sevens-mark) of the Danish Space Research Institute.

Saturday in NJ. 70 degrees and sunny. Exactly normal. GW and CC not in play.

Golf in play.

Then walk the kids dog - walk, sniff, walk, sniff, walk, sniff.

Same tomorrow. Look for outdoor activity with alcohol. Either drink some or burn something.

2mm/year?
At what margin of error?
Last I heard it was +or- 16mm, and even then, most experts said that level of precision was unlikely.

Look at the data (which was why I provided a link). 2.07 +- 0.17 (95% CI) mm per year for Seattle.

That includes ground settlement or upthrust (which is a distinct possibility on the west coast). The world average is somewhat greater, closer to 3, but also shows no signs of acceleration.

Because Illinois is so corrupt it snowed for the better part of the morning.
On the brighter side, at least for Cook County pols, they're lifting the Shakman Decrees.

Global warming is hot air. In the Catskills we've had one of the coldest longest winters ever, and have today 53 degrees. Last year we were all in the pool by the end of April.
