What's up with the mules?

Okay, I've seen this twice in 2 days as we've driven into work:

What does it mean?!

Meade took the photo, on campus, on University Drive.

This is a subtle way the Post Office is trying to bring back "Jackass Mail" in a cost cutting effort.

The young lady in the shorts is making, in a not too subtle way, an effort to reintroduce "hot pants" into fashion.

It won't work on either score.

No new trends were ever set in Wisconsin.

Oh, brother. Those are fighting words, aren't they?

Fandor म्हणाले...

HELLO?

Ms. Althouse would like some feedback.

At least comment on Meade's picture…nice composition…don't you think?

If I may say, those are some decent-looking asses.

I think this is it.

Mules are dependable. No way would my horses put up with those balloons!

Just more asses parading around in Madison.

What's with the silly vest? Do the safety police really know no limits?

It appears to be a marketing campaign for the launch of a new app.

Car accident near the asses by people watching the asses and not paying attention to the road around 5:15pm today.

Got stuck in the aftermath.

The flicker stream has a bunch of (some good) photos. It is amusing to me to click the arrows quickly a dozen times and see that the caption from the original post still works:

Is that an undercover cop sting?

Michael म्हणाले...

Those mules are dinky. Why are they so short?

Dan from Madison म्हणाले...

I think the best part about all of this is that the company has "donkey" in their name, and the local reporters report the animals as donkeys - but they are clearly mules, as most third graders could understand.

They are not actually mules.

Harry Reid stole all the cowboys' horses is what it means.

Based on the picture, I'd say definitely donkeys, not mules.

Paul म्हणाले...

What mules?

Carter Wood म्हणाले...

When I traveled through eastern Germany shortly after the wall fell, all the city centers (Fussgaengerzone)were marked by two things: Vietnamese selling cigarettes and a guy standing with a pony with a sign, "Unemployed circus pony, please help." (The small-time circuses closed once the government subsidies ended.) Perhaps it's something similar?

Rick in Oregon (ex-Chicagoan) म्हणाले...

Reminds me of a mysterious early 60's ad campaign

`I will bring a mountain to Chicago.'

There were billboards all over the city with those words and a picture of a mountain. It turned out to be merely the mountain of flavor within Folger's Coffee.

Phaedrus म्हणाले...

Everyone likes a little ass every once a while even in Madison.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I called them donkeys when I first saw them, and Meade said they were mules…. I believed him. He's been on the farm...

Dan from Madison म्हणाले...

Definitely mules.

They are mules. The owner is riding the lead mule. I know him. And, yes, he was hired to advertise a new app. He will be going to LaCrosse and a couple other cities as well. His mules have won national awards.

Mules? I only see sneakers, sandals and boots

Mules are smarter, more sure footed and far more reliable than horses. And they are smaller than work mules because the horse half was probably a riding horse breed than a work horse one.

Cheryl, if your horses are too jumpy, may I suggest sending them to an Amish trainer? The carriage horses in Lake Geneva are all Amish trained. My wife and I were in a carriage and two motorcycles buzzed by - one on each side - and the horse didn't blink.

They are smaller mules probably because the horse half was a riding horse and not a work horse breed. Mules are stronger, tougher, more sure footed and far more reliable than horses.

Cheryl, if your horses are too jumpy, you could try taking them to an Amish trainer. To see Amish training at work, check out the carriage horses in Lake Geneva. Motorcyles, trucks, loud cars, etc and they don't bat an eye.
