"An Illustrated Taxonomy of City Bikes and Cyclist Archetypes."

"From hipster habits to midlife crises, a morphology of urban life on two wheels."

(A morphology and a taxonomy?)

BONUS: "A List of Don’ts for Women on Bicycles Circa 1895."

My favorite is: "Don’t cultivate a "'bicycle face.'"

What happened to the bike nazi? I see them often enough on the Br'klyn Bridge.

You don't see too many bike messengers nowadays. Thank God for the Internet. Many midtown pedestrians are alive today because of the Internet and the diminished number of bike messengers.....Delivery guys are frequently reckless, but they move at an avoidable speed....Why do you never see female delivery cyclists? Why isn't NOW on this issue.

Two Dutch women are cycling into town to do some shopping. Since its a really rare nice day (being Holland), one of the women suggests they take a longer, more scenic route over some old cobbled lanes. After a few kilometers, one of the women says "Oh my, this is really nice. I've never come this way before!." In reply, the other woman says "Yeah, its the cobblestones."

I'll be here all week folks!!

These are nice illustrations. I think they are missing one key rider. "The Critical Mass" cyclist that has a strange bike made out of different components and often includes a mangled frame or two frames joined together.

The Commuter: That looks familiar. Folding bikes are pretty awesome.

Here in Boston I've seen a pretty cool mod in which a big plywood box is built between the rider and the front wheel. You can fit a couple of kids in these.

Something Like this.

How about the guy who gets the old bike down from the rafters, throws it in the car trunk ,expecting to ride it 3 miles home from the auto repair shop and ends up carrying the bike home when the old rear tire goes flat?

I like that every person shorts has scabbed-up knees.

Good one, fullmoon! I've been several on those Archetypes, mostly the commuter, but that's the one that gets remembered.

I am not in New York, but I see many a Park Slope Dad and Journeyman pass the house.

Those illustrations kind of blow. Just sayin'.

I can think of a couple more but my descriptions would be rude and likely stir up a lot of you know what. However, they are the ones who have ruined my favorite walking trail by using it for training. They travel in packs and nearly run down the people for whom the trail was intended - walkers, casual cyclists, famlies. They travel in packs and at high speeds, yell and make rude gestures and the common folk.

How about the guy who rides a bike because the judge took his drivers license away for DUI?

Just this once San Francisco beats NYC. There are several varieties of super cute girls here and they will talk to you, at least if you're on a bike. And commuters are riding every sort of bike, in every sort or garb.
