11 Senate Democrats push Obama to approve the Keystone pipeline.

"Democratic Sens. Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mark Warner of Virginia, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Mark Begich of Alaska, who all face tight races this November, signed the letter..."
The party’s quest to keep control of the Senate could hinge on the races of these five Democrats, who have previously expressed support for the project. Many of them come from fossil-fuel rich states....

Facing mounting pressure from his environmental base, Mr. Obama said last summer he would only approve the Canada-U.S. pipeline if it didn’t “significantly exacerbate” global warming.

This is just for show. They have a billionaire offering 100 million dollars to go towards the 2014 elections if they don't approve the Keystone Pipeline.

No chance it'll get approved. At least not before the election and 100 million dollars is spent.

I doubt it'll work (to help their reelections). Voters who are angry about Obama not approving the pipeline for six years aren't going to suddenly be happy that now in 2014 these senators are making this request. They might instead have conditioned their votes for the ACA--which would have failed without those votes--on approving Keystone four years ago.

Too little too late. Some of them might keep their seats, but it won't be because of this.

So we should have 11 large donation to Green candidates today.

Civil wars are the best wars.

How about approving it simply because it is good for America?

Jesus. We talk about things in terms of their political impacts, as if it were a totally normal thing to do so.

That that has ceased to outrage people, is a good indicator of how far gone we are.

Of course not approving the pipeline probably results in more energy usage, if you assume that the oil is going to get shipped by a different and less efficient method.

But if you never ship the oil, which is the goal of the enviros, supposedly you will get less energy usage.

Unless another source is found. Like (say) coal?

I'm not sure how much the President cares about the electoral fates of these moderate Democrats.

He's building a legacy and it's somewhere off to the left.

47 dead in Canadian oil train derailment. How many pipelines derail and kill people?

Positive Legacy or Negative Legacy

His only remaining hope (in his terms) for a positive Legacy is if the Dims still hold the Senate when a bomb takes out the SCOTUS

that or if Boehner folds on amnesty 2014

While we're all talking about the Keystone pipeline the EPA is doing unimaginable harm behind the scenes closing coal power plants through onerous new regulations. When the inevitable outages occur, expect the left to blame everyone else for the death and destruction which results.

And this morning at Instapundit we had this:

Mark Udall pays women 85 cents for every dollar that a man makes.

Mary Landrieu pays women 88 cents for every dollar that a man makes.

Mark Begich pays women 82 cents for every dollar that a man makes.

Mark Warner pays women 75 cents for every dollar that a man makes.

Gary Peters pays women 67 cents for every dollar that a man makes.

(He linked from WaPo)

Is this overlap just a coincidence?

He should approve the green gauntlet. Those birds and bats will not whack themselves. He should approve the green ovens. Those animals will not bake themselves. He should get the talking points right. First, it was global cooling. Second, it was global warming. Today, it is climate change. Progress.

David at 7:52: Yes, they prefer to presume that that oil/gas will not be shipped anywhere. China is ready to buy it.

Magical thinking.

I note that Udall is not in the list of Senators on the list. For a scion of a political family of environmental wackos, this would have been beyond the pale. Just so long as he doesn't come out against fracking - that probably would hurt him here.

Kay Hagan knows she is on her way out of a job here in NC because of her support for zerobamacare. She would come out in favor of clubbing baby seals if she thought it gave her a chance to keep her snout in the trough in DC.
