"Bobby Jindal... and Scott Walker both have strong education records."

Says Instapundit, causing me to think he was snarking on Walker's lack of a college degree. He's not, but anyone who has ideas about pushing Walker in the 2016 presidential campaign needs to be aware of this obvious weakness of his, which opponents will exploit like mad.

How about being a good member in standing in The White Supremacists Club?

The way white society blows off ghettos and such (or doesn't Wisconsin have any?) is criminal. It's not even a topic - where he went to school is.

Fuck his school. Scott Walker shouldn't be judged by how he does, with the poverty, in his state? Even surrounded by emailing racists?

" Walker's lack of a college degree." You make that sound like a bad thing. In light of the incompetence and outright criminal behaviors of the current administration a degree isn't indicative of anything worthwhile to the country. Nor even a worthy goal.

I would like to point out that we've never seen any college transcripts for Barack Obama. (although many recent candidates released theirs, he did not. This is how we know Al Gore got bad grades in Science!)

Some theorized its because he was registered as a foreign student, but I've always thought it was because his grades were bad. Likely very bad. I think he has average to slightly above average intelligence, but he's certainly not in the gifted range, and also appears lazy.

theribbonguy म्हणाले...

LilyBart म्हणाले...

"Obama....and also appears lazy"

I never see him 'roll up his sleeves' and do the hard work of governance. He tells others to 'get to work', then he goes to play. He never misses a vacation, he never wrote an article for the Harvard Law Review (which I understand is unusual for the publications' editor), and he doesn't have any real accomplishments prior to running for office that would indicate hard work and insight into problem solving.

He was an average guy who happened to give a great speech in 2003(?) and has been dining out on that accomplishment and the lingering impression it left on the Democrats.

Witness the arguments and defense of these curs in the msm, the "logic" and relativism employed. Quite frankly there is a disturbing lack of evidence supporting the education of these people, as well as a commensurate lack of morals and ethics.

The response to the Walker criticism is that a BA is a certification for someone who has no major accomplishments and is just starting out in the workforce. It is a stand in for excellent work experience and evidence of intelligence. The defense of Walker here has been best articulated by Walker himself. It is not "because higher education sucks" as many commenters here want to spew.

Walker had family obligations that prevented him from being able to finish college. He is neither proud of this nor ashamed of it, though of course he would rather have been able to finish. This is something people of all political persuasions can relate to.

I despise Walker's politics but attacking him on the level of intellect or for his lack of a college degree seems very easily parried. As long as the "fuck college" brigade of wingers does not get to frame the defense, anyway.

What schools were ruined? Your phrasing indicates all of them.

Ah forget it. Let's cut to the chase. After finding out that the general public did not cry a river over asking public school teachers to pitch in for their health care and pensions, the left changed the story to "it's for the children!" despite not giving a rat's ass for kids.

Sadly, this dog didn't hunt, as it is well documented that schools benefited from Act 10...hell Walker's opponent in the recall used the provisions. Fortunately most of us know what garage refuses to accept, that allowing WEA and WEAC to ass fuck the taxpayers of Wisconsin is not a necessary part of kid's education.

The simple fact is, people on the left like to revel in the fact that people on the right are dumb. As for the "two minute hate" business, please let's not break out the violin or the wagging finger of disdain for "the left." Not without a huge dollop of hypocrisy medicine anyway.

Matthew, as you know, many of us on "the left" did not call any of those politicos dumb. My own very strong disdain for each of the three of them can be itemized to the nines, but you won't find "not smart enough" among the items. In this, I am not not so much an outlier as you might suppose.

Matt Sablan म्हणाले...

"As for the "two minute hate" business, please let's not break out the violin or the wagging finger of disdain for "the left." Not without a huge dollop of hypocrisy medicine anyway."

The left has proven, time and again, that they are willing to attack people as though they are subliterate morons for whatever excuse they can muster in an attempt to score political points.

The right may have their own boogeymen, sure. But in the very specific thing we were discussing, your statement about Walker is patently untrue. If Walker gets the nomination, we will get a never-ending parade of Walker is dumb comments.

That's the reality, within the bounds of what we're discussing. If you want to try and say "The right does bad things too!" Fine. Whatever.

But the thing we're talking about? Walker's lack of a degree? To pretend the left won't aggressively exploit it to encourage hatred against their chosen political opponents is a flight of fancy.

Culture is at the root of most poverty in this country and anyone who thinks white poverty is not blamed on culture has never heard or used the words hillbilly, cracker, redneck, clodhopper, yokel, hick, bum, hobo, drunk, or any of the dozens of other words aimed at the white underclass.

I agree that the smear will be there. I just doubt it will have the wildfire effect you seem to think it will have. I kinda think that this is a lot like the Terri Shiavo case: too many people have been in a position to have to make that call, one way or another. It just was outrageous to a lot of people on a very personal level, to see politicians calling special sessions to weigh in on this terrible situation.

I think similarly, people will think "hey, that's like what happened to me" when people try to slam Walker for this. It is a dangerous game that could easily backfire.

That is, *unless* the right gets a chance to frame the discussion with one of *its* favorite "two-minute hate" vehicles: to wit, the slamming on college education and "bubble heads" that we have already seen so happily expressed in this thread.

The response to the Walker criticism is that a BA is a certification for someone who has no major accomplishments and is just starting out in the workforce. It is a stand in for excellent work experience and evidence of intelligence. A BA is meaningless when evaluating an adult with a long record of accomplishment and experience that can be used for evaluation.

Those great points are the reality of the world and of Walker's abilities. Most of the posters here are intelligent enough to see that reality.
Unfortunately, the pop culture, easily mislead by Hollywood, and low information voters, will have a huge say in who gets elected.
That is why Walker will need to get advice from Joe Biden on what type of hairplug mistakes not to get, and he will need a quick Social Studies BA, to ward off the shallow thinking that the Democrats mine for cheap and easy votes. That is what makes me sad about the reality of how America votes (Look at the last election)

Seriously, though, the word "winger" interests me. It derives from "right-wing", which originally (60s? 70s?) meant politics on the far-right. Now "right-wing", like the n-word, means pretty much anyone not on the left. "Winger" has replaced it as a quick term for the people right of center.

Now, I would call most folks on the far left a "socialist" or a "communist", but those words seem to get people riled up. Say "Obama is a socialist" at a cocktail party, and expect to get hipster smack-downs all up in your brie-encrusted croutons, or whatever.

But "winger", that's like the new "Nazi" or "fascist" (even though those are really leftist movements). It is a new term that socialists and communists and slow thinkers use to describe those of us who don't think politically correctly.

I would like to thank Althouse for her writing, the forum, and attracting great comments.

There are all kinds of emotions relating to a college degree and Scott Walker. There are all kinds of arguments to be made and refuted. Having discussions about how it will play out can elevate the discourse or lower it, depending on what the electorate demands and the aims of the arguers.

I don't agree with how the country is operated and votes in many scenarios, and bitching about the media or how stupid the voters are makes me a stupid bitch, which I don't want to be more than is inevitable. Althouse helps arm me with better, more advanced arguments and a deeper understanding of the people who vote so different based on their different-from-me thinking.

That said, who cares if Althouse is "elitist?" That may be true but doesn't effect her argument. If all you can respond with is "you're wrong because you think as an elitist and that's wrong" then I don't believe, even if that were true, any advancement of winning strategy has occurred.

So, I've gone from believing after Nov. 2012 we need Lee Atwater attack attack attack messaging to we need Lee Atwater attack attack attack messaging and to tell voters how special they are and how much we care for each and every single one of the most-precious little darlings.

Sincerely, thank you, Michael. I know I can't convey sincerity convincingly online, but I want you to know I get that.

But you've got to understand something as well:

In 1961 there were probably LOTS of blacks who didn't want your help - not directly anyway. The probably had as much of white folks as they could stand and wondered what made you think - with the history of whites taking over shit - that you could just waltz in and be accepted. (Much like my reception in Republican circles.)

Can't you understand that? And even respect it? Why get mad? You were there, supposedly, to help. Well, giving traumatized people their space is helping. Or would you insist on touching a rape victim when she says not to?

Instead, you seem to have built up an, understandable, anger. But it's not warranted. It's not personal. Except to us as a country, if that makes any sense.

Blacks are going to get justice - I've no doubt of that. We got part of it on our own and we're no longer alone now. Nobody's dropping anything. And you're supposed to be happy about that. Because it means MLK was right:

As I've stated several times here, I like Walker so far. But if he can't find his inner Chris Christie, I won't end up voting for him. We need more like Chris Christie (Without his politics) and less like Tim Pawlenty (No more Mr. Nice guys!)

Every parent wishes their child gets a degree and thus entrance to the middle class.

Sure, tell me about how Bill Gates or Steve Jobs didn't have a degree. I can open a phone book of any city and demonstrate how that is the exception not the rule. Go into any service job and find someone who wishes they were not limited by their education to low wage jobs,

No one wishes their own kid follows the Walker path and skip college. I am not sure what Walker can offer in terms of a future generations. It is not like his billion dollar cuts to education are going to inspire young families, no instead it will be the same old white guy demographic which might win elections in WI but does not win nationally.

My guess is he was kicked out of Marquette. It would fit the pattern."

My guess, since you know that Marquette has said not only wasn't kicked out, he was was never even in bad standing socially or academically, is that you are a pathetic liar. It doesn't bother you at all that every position you take starts with a lie.

By the way, Bob Ellison,

When you say "leftist," you reveal yourself as a winger. It's a tell. We leftists don't use that term and have to think about it in between runs from our condos to purchase soft-shell crab with our food stamps.

Mark:
Look at the employment statistics for recent college grads and get back to me. Get thee some facts! Your rhetoric is 20 years out of date. Thanks, Obama economy.

Harrogate:

Yes, Leftists don't call themselves Leftists. But that's because Leftism is responsible for 100-120 million deaths these last 100 years. It's a branding and image problem.

Namely, Leftists actually branded people. And the pictures of mass graves were unpopular.

Would you prefer Collectivist?
Fan of centralized government?
Whore for power.

Go crazy and develop a New Speak name for your Leftism.

Cold blooded, Moms Jeans wearing killers!

garage mahal:

That's a terrible talking point.
You do know that Obama already said they're not Mom Jeans, right?

Get back on message, troll.

Mark म्हणाले...

Bickel, try harder. My generation graduated during that period.

Please show me all the parents aspiring for their kids to skip or drop out of college.

Just in case no one else mentioned it. Harry S Truman ...

Mack:

(We are misspelling names, aren't we?)

I see you ignored my advice. The lifetime earnings after repaying student loans are not unequivocally higher for those attending college. The fact that parents have been relatively slow to absorb this new reality in no way makes it untrue.

Get thee some facts.

The obvious winger defense is that lacking education is a positive because higher education is such bullshit, totally indoctrination.

Actually, a thoroughly valid argument is that we've given the highly credentialed control for decades and things could scarcely be more fucked up than they are now.

Also, I'll believe education is vital when Obama releases his records.

and at Bush for how well he did in school.

...and when it came out that he OUTPERFORMED both people he beat for the Presidency? Crickets from the Left.

I told you guys I don't talk to Birkel anymore, but he did bring up an interesting point:

Paul Ryan claims he wants to help blacks - as he speaks in revealing dog whistles and quotes a racist Charles Murray on Bill Bennett's show. That's the same Bill Bennett who famously said:

“I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could — if that were your sole purpose — you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down.”

But these aren't racists. Just two "inarticulate" white guys chewing the fat.

Let me ask you something:

Why is it some white guys can spend their lives around black people and never say an offensive or insulting word - no matter what he's saying - and you Tea Party types can't?

Just "inarticulate" I guess, huh?
