If only one thing could break through the popularity of Justin Bieber, it would be... Lou Ferrigno.

From the sidebar, just now, at The New York Daily News:

Lou says: "Young people today are looking for shortcuts... They always think there is a supplement out there to make them grow faster."

It's the age of Obama, Lou.

Bieber wants to believe he's grown into a bad ass rapper trapped inside the body and image of a teen idol.

Kind of like Ferrigno's Hulk inside Bill Bixby.

Except Bieber doesn't have the chops or the cred, and everyone around him must be saying the transition would be a disaster.

"Young people today are looking for shortcuts... They always think there is a supplement out there to make them grow faster."

Indeed.

I Sympathize with this Bieber Kid. I Was Once on Top of the World, Too, with Golden Hair and Dreamy Eyes. When I Hear the Girls Call Out for Him I Can't Help But Hear the Echoes of the Young Girls of the Seventies Calling Out for Me. Sometimes it Feels Like it was Only Yesterday, Until I Wake Up Alone in the Motel Next to the I-Hop. How fast it All Goes, Man.

'Tis a pity he has no one to turn to in his life for advice and counsel...oh, but wait...he has a real role model in his dad....... :-/

Bieber's deadbeat dad who dumped him as a baby... and came back to land Justin in jail

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the muscle guy. But what about the other side bar item, the one about Chantel? Much nicer to look at than Lou (no offense Lou -- REALLY, NO OFFENSE), but the main thing is she's a "pseudo social climber". Now there's a concept that ought to interest language maven Althouse. Does it mean that Chantel only pretends to be a social climber? Or perhaps that the society she is climbing is a phoney society? And where does the Bieber fit in to all this? Think of the possibilities.

I heard of Chantel Jeffries for the first time today on Twitter when Chantel *Jennings*, a reporter for ESPN, revealed somewhat hilariously that some Beliebers had started attacking her in a case of mistaken identity. Some of those kids ain't too bright.

On the other hand, I give the kids a small measure of credit. At my age, all I know about Justin Bieber is that for years he's been an object of ridicule for all adults in the media. Standing against that takes a degree of confidence and integrity.

And if the media have taught me anything, it's that anyone they unanimously worship is probably a scumbag (see: politicians, Lance Armstrong, etc.), and anyone they all despise might be all right.

That's rich, coming from a guy who ate steroids like M&MS in the day.
