"'Claudine must have lost her bearings.' Althouse said."

"'Chase must have stayed with her about 30 hours. He was barking to try and attract attention, and if it wouldn’t have been for him, they might not have found her for weeks. She rescued him, and then he tried to rescue her. And now he is without a home.'"

I'll take the dog if no one else will.

But of course this dog will have a home in nothing flat. Good dog.

I didn't notice the "Nancy Althouse" the first time through and thought this was you. Well, that explains all these dogs that come and go from your house.

I almost posted that they maybe should have mentioned your first name but before hitting "Publish" I did something uncharacteristic--I scanned the article again to see if I'd missed it.

I did. You're not Nancy. So far as I know.

A lab. Good with other pets and children. Stayed with their owner for 30 hours to try to save their life. How hard will it be to place this dog?

It had a home before I even clicked on the link, plus backup offers.

OTOH, my sister, who likes dogs more than people, takes in the ones that no one wants. The end up needing massive medical help, constant care, and ironically don't like her at which point she hates the dog, too, waiting for the incontinent thing to die.

Then she gets another one.

Very weird comments at the link, about Amish puppy mills. What's up with that?

Lancaster, PA is Amish country and the Amish are notorious in dog lover circles for running puppy mills.

Well, I scanned the article for "Althouse", especially after I saw the phone number.

Then I noticed the 'other Althouse' tag here on the blog, and the "Nancy Althouse" in the article.

Interesting.

To tie this in with the earlier post about the Jefferson family: do you have any interest in figuring out your relatedness to these Pennsylvanian Althouses?

That's Lancaster County, where my father's family came from. If you want to find Althouses, that's where they are. Pennsylvania Dutch. That's what we are.

lgv, you just described me and my dogs relationship except I won't get another dog! The dog is getting senile now and seems to like me a little bit more at least. It's only taken ten years.
