Woman who only had 3 words for her critics — "ha, ha, ha"...

... now faces a year in prison and critics who say things like "It would be justice if the cat survived and she didn't survive prison" and "Put her in a Rubbermaid storage container for a day... but be nice and bore a few holes so she can breathe. Do it in a public area so people can walk by and say 'ha, ha, ha' to her."

The first question that comes to mind is how did she get the cat in the jar without bleeding to death.

Maybe the cat liked climbing into jars.

That's the inference her lawyer can push.

I can't get mad at her, even though I guess I am supposed to.

The reaction is over the top, including the idea of prosecuting, much less jailing this girl.

This is ginned up outrage of terminally stupid people induced by unthinking cruelty speculations and accusations. Cats climb into all sorts of tight spaces on their own. I bet the cat went in there by itself and all she had to do was put a lid on the jar long enough to take a picture and then take the lid off.

The cat climbing in because he/she liked it won't fly. She stated it was used as punishment.

Her best defense, as she is Taiwanese, is that she was preparing a casserole.

People lose their fucking minds when it comes to animal pets.

Yeah!

I say we string-up the people behind the "Hang In There, Baby" poster!

Yes, throw her in jail for a year, so then her cat then can be locked in a Government Approved cage until they have to put it down. Which will be OK and not commented on as "cruelty".

Animal "lovers" can be some of the worst sort of unthinking whack jobs.

"Kiki Lin sparked outrage when she posted the picture of her pet stuffed inside the sealed glass container on Facebook."

That jar looks like plastic, not glass. I should say there's no way it's glass. It's plastic.

So the journalism here could be pretty bogus.

Cats like going into jars and boxes. So I doubt it's much of a punishment. I've seen my cats in spots where I can't believe they got there and are actually comfortable, but yet they are.

To that woman's age group age their pets are "family" and should be seen as people. Following out the logic of that theory, the cat and the woman have been locked in a dysfunctional relationship for some time. An intervention is needed, not a punishment, not jail. Jail for the woman is specieism, saying Human is in charge and somehow guilty while Cat beats the rap. Surely the cat/Baby by now is as crazy as her owner/Mom and no one who knows animals will look after that cat while her owner is in prison Family therapy for the two of them is the right answer.

The 1:12 mark of this video shows how a cat gets in a jar. I couldn't read the whole story, but the girl probably only had to screw the lid on.

Humane Society folks are usually personality defectives.

Now go and spey your beloved animals, you lovers that use animals as substitutes for loving people.

A year in jail? Sure, she shouldn't put the cat in a jar, but it was a gigantic jar, not a little jar. Was the cat harmed? How long was it in the jar? One second? One minute? Longer? Where is the journalism?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Seems like the prosecution is more a response to the feelings of outrage produced by the photograph and her taunting of those who believed she was tormenting that cat than actual harm to the cat. That she said she was punishing it seems more like taunting than the actual truth. The internet is full of pictures of animals in small enclosures, cats getting into little boxes and shoes and things.

Yes, cats climb into tight spaces and may have crawled into the jar. However, they don't like feeling trapped. They are cool with the tight space until the door/lid/top of the box is shut. I have had many a cat crawl into an open drawer, cupboard and closet only to freak out when I closed the container not knowing a cat had jumped in.

I had a friend who had some carpentry done and the carpenter trapped her cat between the floor boards. She must have went to investigate the hole when he stepped away. He realized the mistake when the cat cried frantically when unable to find the exit. Of course he opened it up, the cat ran out and under the bed for the rest of the day.

It once took me an hour to find where the panicked cries were coming from in the house. I thought I will be on the 6pm news because she found a crevice that lead her to fall between a wall...but then I found her in a linen drawer that I had loaded earlier and closed not realizing she had squeezed into. She wouldn't let me do anything, but pet her for the next hour while I apologized. : )

Tim in Vermont. Loved those pics. Yet even at that link people think people could force a cat into those things. You can't. They would bite and scratch if you try to force them.

They like it. It feels secure I would guess. I try to keep things safe for mine so they don't get themselves in a jam they can't get out of.

No kidding. Look what she did.

I saw a man do that to himself once, twisting himself into all kinds of shape.

No one yelled human cruelty though.

Why are we locking up animal abusers and letting violent criminals out? Some guy got ~2 years in Cali for killing an animal. Despicable act and they are releasing violent felons.

I like the casserole defense LOL^2
